In Hoc Anno Domini So the light came into the world
Jacob173
by Jacob173  12-24-2009    1
who heard strange voices or read strange manuscripts. There was enslavement of men whose tribes came not from Rome, disdain for those who did not have the familiar visage. And most of all, there was everywhere a contempt for human life. What, to the strong, was one man more or less in a crowded world? Then, of a sudden, there was a light in the world, and a man from Galilee saying, Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's and unto God the things that are God's. And the voice from Galilee, which would defy Caesar, offered a new Kingdom in which each man could walk upright and bow to none but his God. Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. And he sent this gospel of the Kingdom of Man into the uttermost ends of the earth. So the light came into the world and the men who lived in darkness were afraid, and they tried to lower a curtain so that man would still believe salvation lay with the leaders.

War On Terror: Justice Denied
merrie
by merrie  11-14-2009
This move to a civilian court makes no sense at all, except viewed through a political prism. Maybe the White House wants to make its Jan. 22 deadline to close Gitmo. Or maybe it's keen to publicly differentiate itself from the previous administration, which was considerably tougher on terrorists. Either way, it's an unwise move. It will only remind people how much America has shrunk in the last nine months. http://notyrants.blogspot.com/2009/11/justice-denied.html

PETA's dirty secrets: 7 things you didn't know about PETA
Lexica
by Lexica  10-13-2009    3
More: regularly target children as young as six years old with anti-meat and anti-milk propaganda, often waiting outside their schools to intercept them as they walk to and from class-without notifying parents.… PETA…fund the misnamed Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), a deceptive animal rights group that promotes itself as an unbiased source of medical and nutritional information… PETA…billboards taunt Christians with the message that hogs "died for their sins."…And its infamous "Holocaust on Your Plate" campaign crassly compares the Jewish victims of Nazi genocide with farm animals. PETA has repeatedly attacked research foundations like the March of Dimes, the Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and the American Cancer Society, because they support animal-based research that might uncover cures for birth defects and life-threatening diseases…president Ingrid Newkirk has said that "even if animal research resulted in a cure for AIDS, we would be against it."

CITIZENS FOR BETTER GOVERNMENT
kareval
by kareval  10-6-2009    1
"Nations richer and more powerful in their day than we are in this, have been sabotaged, defeated, enslaved. Babylon was the largest and richest nation of its time, but its lust for luxury made it an easy mark for the Medes and Persians who overran it, and divided its land and enslaved the people between them. Rome was a greater military power than we ever were, but when free bread and circuses became more important to the people than hard work and patriotism, Rome was invaded and looted by the tougher Vandals. The Incas were the most civilized, richest people in the Americas, but ruthless, better-armed invaders destroyed them as a nation, and looted everything they owned and had spent generations in creating. In every case it was the self indulgent weakness of the victim which made victory of the invader easy. Undoubtedly there were Babylonians, Romans, Incas who warned against overindulgence and weakness, who warned that each citizen is responsible for his nation, and that

the only point where I'd like to elaborate: the "old normal" is only 10 to 20 years old, and it's not capitalism. It's been another era of government intereference, more subtle because less opposed to, given that it enocuraged debt and consumption. What government has to do, as usual, is not to try to spend its way out of troubl ewith our money. It's to get out of the way and stop pumping out bread and circuses .

Russian News: American capitalism gone with a whimper
billpar
by billpar  6-1-2009    11
This Russian Newspaper (Pravda) article continues... Americans know more about their favorite TV dramas then the drama in DC that directly affects their lives. They care more for their "right" to choke down a McDonalds burger or a BurgerKing burger than for their constitutional rights. Then they turn around and lecture us about our rights and about our "democracy". Pride blind the foolish. Then their faith in God was destroyed, until their churches, all tens of thousands of different "branches and denominations" were for the most part little more then Sunday circuses and their televangelists and top protestant mega preachers were more then happy to sell out their souls and flocks to be on the "winning" side of one pseudo Marxist politician or another. Their flocks may complain, but when explained that they would be on the "winning" side, their flocks were ever so quick to reject Christ in hopes for earthly power.  First, the population was dumbed down through a politicized and substandard education system based on pop culture, rather then the classics. Even our Holy Orthodox churches are scandalously liberalized in America. The final collapse has come with the election of Barack Obama. His speed in the past three months has been truly impressive. His spending and money printing has been a record setting, not just in America's short history but in the world.

. . . . A perfect democracy, a "warm body" democracy in which every adult may vote and all votes count equally, has no internal feedback for self-correction.... nce a state extends the franchise to every warm body, be he producer or parasite, that day marks the beginning of the end of the state. For when the plebs discover that they can vote themselves bread and circuses without limit and that the productive members of the body politic cannot stop them, they will do so, until the state bleeds to death, or in its weakened condition the state succumbs to an invader — the barbarians enter Rome.

Frank Buck - Bring 'em Back Alive

Buck was a man of his era... Hard drinking, hard living, self-made entrepreneur and showman extraordinaire. Buck's fame led to an entire occupation by circus workers today - wild animal tamer. Never a man to turn down a "buck," Buck was a shameless self-promoter and claimed to have even tracked down a Yeti once.

Hope for Tiger Breeding
asphere
by asphere  4-28-2008
" They found that 49 of the 105 captive tigers, or about 47 percent, could be categorized as being of one of five subspecies. Since some of the 49 were from breeding programs, the researchers suggest that the percentage of purebreds in the full captive population is probably lower, about 14 percent to 23 percent. Still, that represents a new pool of genetically distinct tigers potentially available for breeding efforts. " new pool ! great news :)
