POPSArtificial Christmas Trees Tom’s Christmas tree was the most magnificent I’ve ever seen so I think next year we should go for one of those white Artificial Christmas Trees.

POPSView on Systemic failure The near-calamity that resulted Christmas Day from a would-be plane bomber who reportedly underwent terror training with al-Qaida in Yemen makes us wonder whether the United States' intelligence and security agencies learned anything from Sept. 11.

POPSObama cites intel failures in attempted airline attack U.S. President Barack Obama says the United States had enough information to uncover the plot to blow up a Detroit-bound airliner on Christmas Day, but failed to put all the bits and pieces of intelligence together. Mr. Obama spoke after a long meeting with his Cabinet and national security team.

POPSObama's Stunning Admission Obama admits Dems "snuck in" health care provisions Posted by Tom Bevan So it's a bit of shock to find out now - from the President himself, no less - that one or both of the bills that passed Congress late last year (the House passed its version in late November, the Senate on Christmas Eve Day) contained language that would have violated this pledge. If we take this statement at face value, President Obama is admitting the the health care bills passed by either the House or Senate (or both) contained provisions which were "snuck in" - presumably by Democratic members and perhaps on behalf of certain lobbyists - that would have in fact prevented people from keeping their current insurance and/or choosing the doctor they want. POPSEco-bridge made from trash collapses in Shanghai "Recycling has its place in our modern world, but this is ridiculous, not to mention extremely perilous if someone has the misfortune of enjoying the view of the river while standing underneath a girder weakened by Styrofoam and/or plastic."

POPSThe Christmas Bomber Speaks … Finally
The intelligence he possessed was perishable. Each moment that passed that he was not speaking meant lost counterterrorism opportunities. Every hour, every day, every week that went by gave them precious time to close bank accounts, e-mail addresses, phone numbers he knew about, and shut down training camps, safe houses, and other intelligence leads he could have given us. Terrorists he knew about have been put into hiding, and other leads that were hot in the days immediately following his capture have since gone cold. The mishandling of Abdulmutallab’s questioning is an intelligence failure of massive proportions. And it highlights the problem with the Obama administration’s approach to terrorist interrogation. The administration’s approach is built on a law-enforcement model unsuited for the challenges of the war on terror. Here is why: In law enforcement, interrogators generally question terrorists after an attack (or in the case of Abdulmutallab, an attempted attack)

POPSEngland is 'cesspit' breeding Islamists, says Nobel prize winner Soyinka added: "This is part of the character of Great Britain. Colonialism bred an innate arrogance, but when you undertake that sort of imperial adventure, that arrogance gives way to a feeling of accommodativeness. You take pride in your openness." The attempted Christmas Day bombing has helped to raise fears that some British universities are becoming places in which young Muslims are radicalised – Abdulmutallab attended University College, London. But Soyinka, who splits his time between the US and Nigeria, suggested that British Muslims were being radicalised earlier in their lives.

POPSFor Moonbats, the End of an Era "Maybe someday you’ll have a new generation of Kennedys to cover up for, to point out how they are turning their lives around after (fill in the blank) a cheating scandal, a drug scandal, a rape accusation, a blonde in the pond, an overturned Jeep on Nantucket, an extramarital affair with a polo player, a drug overdose, a waitress sandwich . . ." "Yesterday was Camelot Emancipation Day. For taxpayers, it was Christmas and the Super Bowl rolled into one."

POPS MIRANDIZE FOREIGNERS? Republicans in Congress have been sharply critical of the decision to Mirandize Abdulmutallab. Also, Director of National Intelligence Dennis Blair, FBI Director Robert Mueller, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and National Counterterrrorism Center Director Michael Leiter have all testified that they were not consulted in advance on the Christmas Day decision to tell the terrorist he had the right to remain silent. The administration filed an initial criminal complaint in federal court against Abdulmutallab on Dec. 26, the day after he was Mirandized. Later, on Jan. 6, the administration formally indicted Abdulmutallab.

POPSLAW ENFORCEMENT VS TERRORISM McConnell said that eight years after the September 11 attacks, the nation is continually reminded of the need to remain vigilant. “In September we learned of a plot to bomb the New York City subway,” McConnell said. “Soon after that, there was the tragic massacre at Ft. Hood. Then, on Christmas Day, there was the failed attempt by a foreign-born terrorist to kill nearly 300 innocent civilians in a commercial airliner in the skies over Detroit. “Our elected leaders have no greater duty than that of protecting the American people from harm, The Obama administration’s policy of having the FBI read the Miranda rights to terrorists captured on the battlefield in Afghanistan is “outrageous,” Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) told CNSNews.com. “To me, this is the most outrageous notion I have ever heard,” said Inhofe. “These people are terrorists, they don’t have rights, they don’t belong to a country that is identifiable.”

POPSCostly caulkers & crackpots So Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab got within an inch of having hundreds of airline passengers fall from the sky over Detroit on Christmas day, thanks to the ongoing holes in government-run security -- some eight years after the attacks of 9/11.

POPSTorture Not Needed to get Info Just reported is that the FBI using civilized techniques of investigation, have been able to get some real useful info from the would-be Christmas Day bomber. They brought in his family. Still....success is not enough to quiet the Republican critics and the lie that 'torture works,' is still popular http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2009_04/017875.php It seems -- although it's a sick justification to use anyhow -- but it seems that all the claims of torture working on getting real and useful info are Lies. False. BS. Tsk. Tsk.
