POPSThe Keyboard Commandos want Obama to be tough
To Brooks, the big question is whether Obama possesses "the trait that is more important than intellectual sophistication and, in fact, stands in tension with it." That is, whether the president is "a very manly, virile, manful person, and a firm believer in strict discipline, corporal punishment, and nude apartment wrestling." Oops, never mind. That last bit was Captain Ned. But it does get old hearing this cohort of Ivy League toughs -- most of whom one suspects haven't had even a fistfight since third grade -- describe every U.S. foreign policy issue as a testosterone test. One suspects it may not be Obama's virility they're worried about. Next came Cheney's devoted daughter. After President Obama paid a 4 a.m. visit to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware to salute the flag-draped caskets of 18 American servicemen arriving home from Afghanistan, and to console their families, Liz Cheney appeared on -- where else? -- Fox News radio to suggest a cheap political stunt.

POPSBeware The Stalin in Progressive Hearts Consider: Nowhere does the Constitution grant Congress authority to require every American to buy a particular private service or product on pain of forfeiture of a significant portion of their wealth. Yet, every version of Obamacare currently being discussed in Congress requires just that. Forcing all of us to buy officially approved health insurance is essential to a functioning government-run system. As Obama told Congress, "many of insurance reforms we seek - especially requiring insurance companies to cover pre-existing conditions - cannot be achieved" without the individual mandate. Why? Because the politicians and bureaucrats who will manage the government-run health care program know that, without the force of government behind them, they won't be able to make the rest of us do what they tell us to do. But that is what government always does as it becomes more costly, intrusive and intolerant of dissent. As if to drive the point home,

POPSAnd This One's For The Ladies.... These folks just never seem to run out of creative ideas to take us back (way back) to the days when a woman's place was barefoot pregnant and prone. IMO, they've been too sheltered from reality and just don't have enough constructive work to do.

POPSReligion is not the primary motivation of suicide bombers
Whether through sloppy thinking, laziness, or outright racism, Imperial powers love to dismiss local resistance to foreign domination as either "drug-crazed" or "religious fanatics", sometimes both. Because then you don't have to take a close look at their motivations and ask "Why are they pissed off enough to do something like this? Why specifically are they targeting us ? What would I have to be put through to feel like a suicide bombing was a reasonable thing to do? "Oh wait, they're just a bunch of religious nutbags? Great, now we can unleash death an destruction on them and their society knowing that they're unreasoning fanatics, and not people with a legitimate beef. "Nice to know we're still the good guys who never start a fight but always finish it. We're kind of attached to that myth, and it would cause a lot of national distress and heartache if we had to question the reality of that. "Good thing they're just religious crazies."

POPSSmall Doses of "Reality" Really Are Helpful Too much coffee or too much reality? The second is my guess: “The thing with the army is, you have to keep up. It don’t matter if you’re not as fit as the rest, if you can take the pain or can outdo your peers, you’re ok. The army’s all about being there for each other, we push each other. I’d do anything for my buddies. Back before we deployed, we’d get up at 4.30 and run for 8 miles. I hate the cold, but they stationed me in Alaska. WTF?” “I love jumping, but jumping out of a plane in Alaska in winter? WTF? I love to surf. I’m from California and me and my buddies surf all the time. You gotta get on the board right. I can’t snowboard though. I get back from surfing all day and I watch TV.” “In Alaska when you go running when it’s negative 30, you can’t touch your eyelashes ‘else they’ll just fall off.”

POPSPresident Obama unshackles Global AIDS Work from ideological Bush restrictions In new guidelines for 2010, the Obama Pepfar team opened the way to linking AIDS work with strengthening of health systems generally, taking into account the development of human resources, maternal and child health, family planning and access to it for women, gender equality, malaria and tuberculosis, food and nutrition, education and local economies. While Pepfar money may not be involved directly, the program's door will be open for cooperation. It is, in short, a holistic and realistic policy. It will matter because the United States is the world's largest contributor to HIV/AIDS relief, and Bush restrictions have had a deadening effect on many international programs. An estimated tens of millions of women who want contraceptives are unable to get them, or may have no choice beyond crude sterilization or unsafe abortion.

POPSBirthers and anti-choicers: one and the same? More: The birther conspiracy theory works the same way---pointing out evidence and logical arguments only expands the size and scope of the conspiracy in the minds of birthers. In fact the “Obama faked his birth certificate and was born outside of the U.S.” theory apparently erupted in part from an earlier conspiracy theory over Obama's middle name . With birthers, as with anti-choicers, more evidence of reality just gets them further into the thick of imagining even more complex and strange conspiracies. And just as the anti-choicers have moved on to concocting theories about how Planned Parenthood is part of a child sex ring that they’re covering up, I suspect the birther thing may grow in ways that are frightening in their complexity and lack of touch with reality.

POPSGermany’s War of Words in Afghanistan It’s war taking place along the Hindu Kush, he explained to the minister. There are good and not-so-good reasons for the German government to shy away from using the word “war” in connection with the killing and dying German soldiers are doing in Afghanistan. It certainly can’t just be the accepted definition of war that is causing the government to so stubbornly reject the term. After all, war can " but doesn’t have to be " a conflict between countries. History tells us that there were innumerable other conflicts that have been referred to as wars. And the Americans have used the word for their operations in Afghanistan for some time. Shouldn’t the deciding factor be how the German soldiers define what they are experiencing? “If we were to talk about war, we would just be focusing on the military dimension,” says Jung to explain his linguistic choice. Apparently, the idea is to not encourage a military escalation with a verbal escalation.

POPSWatch Cold Souls Online Free Watch Cold Souls Movie Online. Watch Cold Souls Online for Free. Download Cold Souls Without Downloading. Watch Cold Souls In response to shiny, bigger, better American consumerism comes Cold Souls, a metaphysical comedy in which souls can be extracted and traded as commodities. Balancing on a tightrope between deadpan humor and pathos, and between reality and fantasy, the film presents Paul Giamatti as himself, agonizing over his interpretation of Uncle Vanya. Paralyzed with anxiety, he stumbles upon a solution via a New Yorker article about a high-tech company promising to alleviate suffering by deep-freezing souls. Giamatti enlists their services, intending to reinstate his soul once he survives the performance. But complications ensue when a mysterious, soul-trafficking mule borrows Giamatti’s stored soul for an ambitious, but unfortunately talentless, soap-opera actress. Rendered soulless, he is left with no choice but to follow the trail back to St.

POPSThe End of the World and the Future of the Human Race The universe has a way of balancing itself out. The choice we face is whether we want to accept this inevitability, and do what we can to secure a future for ourselves and our progeny, or simply die with the masses. The first and biggest step in the process of saving oneself is to recognize and accept the reality of our situation. Most will not, and a lot will become angry at the mere suggestion; but everyone has a choice. What is happening is happening because we have abandoned our own human nature and gotten lost in an artificial world. Civilizations have come and gone for millions of years. The ancients have told the tale of global empires which risen and fallen, and this too will pass. As the world burns around us, we stand at the edge of something marvelous. A pretty bleak article. Are we doomed? What awaits us? A marvelous new future.. or a nightmare?

POPSGM and The Continued Assault On Business and Commerce In This Country For those who believe that this is just one successful business person who can’t accept or deal with “hope and change,” you need to pick up the clue phone and dial reality. There are lots of CEO’s and business owners who are thinking the same exact thoughts. What or how the health care legislation will impact our business. All we know is that the President wants it fixed this year. The list of potential legislative actions that will have an adverse impact on business could go on and on. And we have not even touched on how the rule of law is being shredded as the government eliminates the rights of the Chrysler and GM bondholders. Hopefully, you’re a lot smarter than our politicians and you understand that it makes no sense to attack businesses when you are talking about the need to create jobs and lower the unemployment rate.

POPSObama's Self-Actualizing Language
It'll remain open for months as his administration struggles with what to do with the detainees. Yet he spoke the words as though the closing had already happened. And in the minds of some of his followers, it essentially has. One can explain his phrasing as the rhetorical projection of a future event into the present. Sort of a verbal promissory note. But, when you refract it through his campaign language, it becomes another example of a pattern. It's just one blossom of his self-actualizing use of Hope and Change. The words "fiscal responsibility" aim to conjure up an image of leadership competence. Obama proposes an astronomical budget and then, from the same lectern, extols the virtues of fiscal responsibility. In this case, words trump reality in what is the gold standard, literally and figuratively, of self-actualizing language events where words are disconnected from reality. It's as though God said "Let there be light," and even though it stayed pitch dark, the people

POPS"Lie to Me."
Though Obama claims to be "creating jobs" and "helping Americans keep their homes," reality says otherwise. Despite spending $235 billion of our tax dollars bailing out financial institutions, there have been 27 bank failures in the United States in the last 100 days. According to his own Department of Labor, more than 2 million Americans have lost their jobs since he moved into the Oval Office. The Obama administration's own figures reveal that during their tenure, 908,666 American families lost their homes to foreclosure. The "Lie to Me" theme continued in Obama's description of his foreign policy "successes" in his first 100 days. His assertion that "we have rejected the false choice between our security and our ideals by closing the detention center at Guantanamo Bay and banning torture without exception" can only be described as "Clintonesque." The truth is, Gitmo is still open because no other country, not even Saudi Arabia — to whose king he curtsied — nor Venezuela — whose d
