POPSChild Sex Charges Damn! Sexual exploitation of a minor? Don't you know how to not download porn onto your computer? Basic web browser knowledge would have kept this from happening.

POPSMadeleine McCann: Online Video Appeal Video did not clip for some reason. It is at the site. POPSHarvey Johnson: American Pedophile in Cambodia Harvey Johnson, American retiree was the subject of a sting operation by Nightline. Johnson moved to Cambodia, set himself up as a volunteer English teacher which gave him access to lots of very young students. He procured children for his own personal use as well as to sell to other pedophiles. The article is disturbing, the videos even more so. Part 1 was more than enough for me. Also featured is a 66 year old American who "fell in love" with a 14 year old that he purchased from her mother. Both "peds" are being prosecuted by various agencies. This website features several activists and their efforts to end this kind of exploitation.

POPSbottom of the ladder - Human Rights WATCH reports
June 15, 2007 Bottom of the ladder. Girls recruited into domestic work in Guinea often live in conditions akin to slavery, and many are victims of trafficking. A 15-year-old girl, sent by her father at age 8 to work for a woman in the capital Conakry, told Human Rights Watch: "The woman suggested to my father that she could look after me and send me to school .... I have not been in contact with my father since ....her husband rapes me. He does it each time his wife travels. I am scared." There is no child protection system in Guinea. Child trafficking, child abuse, and labor exploitation are very rarely prosecuted. Mexico: The Second Assault Obstructing Access to Legal Abortion after Rape in Mexico March 6, 2006 This 92-page report details the disrespect, suspicion and apathy that pregnant rape victims encounter from public prosecutors and health workers and exposes continuing and pervasive impunity for rape and other forms of sexual violence in states throughout Mexico.

POPSU.S. and Allies Torture Kids in Iraq Prisons Former President Carter wrote that the Red Cross, Amnesty International and the Pentagon “have gathered substantial testimony of torture of children, confirmed by soldiers who witnessed or participated in the abuse.” UNICEF was “profoundly disturbed” by reports of abuse of children in Iraq prisons. “Any mistreatment, sexual abuse, exploitation or torture of children in detention is a violation of international law,” UNICEF spokesman Damien Peronnaz said. Not surprisingly, “One of the biggest complaints (by Iraqis) is that the vast majority of (U.S.) detainees have not been charged with any crime,”

POPSCambodian children march against child labour I love the last paragraph. Bastard - it is the standard reply from politicians when questioned on child exploitation. If I had ten bucks for every time I have heard or read those exact same sentiments......

POPSArtecnica - design with conscience Our challenge is to develop a competitive product that will encourage the survival of indigenous craft. Fulfilling this mission requires a smart designer, a savvy and visionary project producer, and a willing and ambitious artisan. Our objective is to avoid the mechanization of the artisan, which devalues his work and undermines the project from both a design and an economic standpoint.

POPSUK Child Abuse Sex Ring Busted
"The newsgroup members gained access to the ring by providing pictures of child sexual abuse. According to US court documents, one member in Florida labelled one folder of images "mild" and another "wild". James Freeman, who used the nickname "Mystikal", bragged: "All I can say is they are worth the download." According to the US indictment against Freeman, seen by the Guardian, he wrote: "My thanks to you and all the others that together make this the greatest group of paedos ever to gather in one place." Paul Griffiths, who heads the victim identification team at Ceop, based in the UK, said the children were subjected to horrendous abuse. "In every image there is a child. These images are crime scene photos where children are being subjected to sexual abuse. This is not 'child pornography'. "It's important to remember too, though, that these children were not missing. They were located in the place where they were supposed to be safe - their own home - where their abuse was rec

POPSAl-Qaeda training child terrorists: US Another example of the crass exploitation of children. Could it be that motivation is not such a worry when they have grown up amidst the carnage caused by the invasion? We still turn blind eyes to the farms of places such as Ghana where cocoa, for our chocolate, is picked by child slave labour.

POPSPorn sting nets nine Canadians I can't fucking belive this. You'd think that with all the stories going around the news of investigations into child pornography, people being arrested, and the fact that people should realize by now that THEY ARE NOT ANONYMOUS on the net, that these creeps would stop??? Ugh... and Canadians, again... I feel so ashamed of my country... Wtf... The Canadian Government & Cybertip.ca have been talking for a long time about setting up a "national firewall" that blocks sites outside canada that contain child porn. This is one of the few cases where I actually support censorship. I wish they'd just fucking complete it... maybe it would stop some people...

POPSPolice warn of internet luring I don't know how many times I've told people to keep an eye on what their kid is doing on the net. The issue is that: a: You want to protect your child b: you want to trust your child - monitoring makes kids feel like you don't trust them... Anyone have any idea how to both keep your kid safe and give them leeway to feel trusted and not under one's thumb? My girlfriend and I are about to have our first child. And I know I've got a few years at least before I really have to worry about this, but I've had friends/co-workers who have kids ask me what they can do to protect them. I usually recommend a good hardware firewall setup to filter the more obvious of the internet's traps. I also recommend that they talk openly with their kids, if your children feel they can talk to you and that these things are not taboo, then I think they are less likely to get in these situations and more likely to report if someone has tried to lure them. IMO: Knowledge == Safety
