U.S. Position Complicates Global Effort to Curb Illicit Arms
papananook
by papananook  7-21-2008
Ever see the Nicolas Cage flick ‘Lord of War’? At the very end, when his character has been caught after years of dealing weapons to anyone who could pay, he is given a ‘get out of jail’ card by a shadowy US military officer, and told he was ‘allowed’ to do what he did because it helped further US imperial aims. At the end, just before the credits was a list of who is selling what to whom. The US leads the world in the illicit arms trade. And the US will do nothing that will endanger the profits from these transactions. No matter who dies as a result.

Automated Translation from Words to Signing
LOPix
by LOPix  9-18-2007
Finally! Soon our deaf friends will be able to understand and participate in activities among the hearing without dangerous (and unsatisfactory) implants and operations -- or depending on often unavailable human translation services. After this technology is widely available, the next step should be reversing the process -- so the hearing can interact better with the deaf.

You Don't have to be a Geek to Understand Document Conversion
bogartthing
by bogartthing  8-5-2007
Find out the differences between raster (tiff) and vector (cad) formats. Large format scanning produces a tiff image; but, you will need to do a paper to cad conversion to edit it. Document scanning converts scanned paper and drawings into raster files. Learn about the different types of pdf formats and the differences between ocr and data entry.

Making humans more computer
mbrandewinder
by mbrandewinder  7-25-2007
Last month's news... but still interesting; I like the twist: Von Anh turns the problem of making computers more human, into making humans more like computer. As long as it's entertaining, humans will do drone-like activities all day long, and collectively beat the biggest computer around...

Is Hillary really a bitch or does she just have the guts?
bookchick49
by bookchick49  8-7-2006    6
"Dick Bennett has been polling New Hampshire voters for 30 years. And he’s never seen anything like it. “Lying b**** . . . shrew . . . Machiavellian . . . evil, power-mad witch . . . the ultimate self-serving politician.” Behind closed doors, this is what nearly half of them are saying. " ============== The more I read about her lately, the more I wonder if it might behoove me to re-think how I feel about the b****. LOL Hey, maybe she has what it takes to set a few records straight and this type of character is usually what the "norm" in politics don't like. Time is prime for someone with the jutspa (spelling?) to step in and call it like it is. I think I may give myself a little time to reacquaint myself with Hillary. Me gots a feeling she'll be running for President ... soon. As dreadful as that once sounded to me.... I think a little more research on her current events might be time worthy.
