Viva McCain

by sillysam  Yesterday 12:56 AM    5
Katie Couric asked each candidate recently what his favorite movie was. Obama gave an utterly conventional answer: "Oh, I think it would have to be The Godfather. One and two. Three not so much. Umm. So-so, but, but that--that saga--I love that movie." Lawrence of Arabia. Great film. One of my favorites--and then Casablanca. Who doesn't like Casablanca? Couric: I asked for one. Obama: I'm a movie guy. I can rattle off a bunch of movies. But that Casablanca, you know. That's Obama. He's glib, conventional, won't make a real choice, shows nothing about himself, and says nothing offputting and says nothing impressive.

New Brit TV show debuts-Torture as entertainment
tommy2balmy
by tommy2balmy  10-7-2008    1
The show's presenter, the explorer Benedict Allen, admitted that he himself had been concerned about some participants' state of mind at times. "We knew we couldn't afford to kill anyone but yes, there were times when I was seriously worried. It got pretty hairy. Two hours into filming on the first day, one of the contestants collapsed on the floor and suffered convulsions. We were stuck in the depths of the jungle in Guyana and we had to get him out. It didn't start well."

'Historic' 'bailout' passes Congress

This has got Nothing whatsoever to do with People (Who?) This is to bail ou the banking industry and corporate holdings. - give them the cash, and when the Economy hits rock bottom the idea is to buy out things of value, real assets for pennies. There is an Australian Movie 'The Castle' that puts into context "They're Dreamin' " Are we going to sell what we own Like they've sold the U.S. to Europe.? That's up to You

Public Participation GIS
rachaelkeriwilliams
by rachaelkeriwilliams  10-2-2008    1
This approach to development of the city and surrounding areas is exactly what we need. The people must be empowered with the information that is typically held by the government, development organizations, and those with developed computer skills and high-speed internet access. PPGIS will facilitate the participation of marginalized members of society in the creation of the ecocity. It can be integrated with accessibility software and accessed from libraries, computing centers, and other designated points in the neighborhood, and should be integrated with a user-friendly interface —such as google maps, rather than the more technologically and geographically -oriented interface employed in typical online GIS sites.

Education spending does not predict success
tumblon
by tumblon  9-29-2008
By all measures, US education spending has increased dramatically in the past thirty years. Yet increased spending has not produced correlated achievement gains. It is time to ask if there are better ways to address the educational crisis.

Substantive Presidential Debates Are Hard to Find
dmegivern
by dmegivern  9-29-2008
Overall, 32% of the questions asked in debates were non-substantive; Only 9% of the questions concerned the economy. The debates hosted by PBS and Univision were the most substantive, with 100% and 82% substantive questions respectively. Fox and ABC hosted the least substantive debates; fewer than half the questions were substantive. The front-running candidates in both parties were more likely to be asked questions focused on trivia, while the candidates trailing badly in the polls were more likely to be asked substantive questions. For example, 73 percent of the questions posed to Dennis Kucinich were substantive, while only 51 percent of the questions given to Barack Obama were substantive, and only 59 percent of the questions for John McCain were substantive. Of those who moderated more than one debate, Salinas and Ramos of Univision asked the most substantive questions (88% and 73%, respectively). Chris Wallace of Fox (33%) asked the fewest substantive questions.

Bye-bye Tax Exemption
AtlLiberal
by AtlLiberal  9-29-2008    4
The last part of the clip is telling. Replace the words "secularist" and "atheists" with Jews and Blacks. How does that sound to you now? Fear and prejudice is one way to get people to change their minds. As far as flaunting the IRS rules regarding non-endorsement of political figures from the pulpit, I say go right ahead but be prepared to lose your tax exempt status.
