Prayers Work Miracles and We Need Someone to Pray to !
benaloy
by benaloy  12-19-2009
Many prayed to their dead mother and have had their wishes granted. Such mothers lead a life of magnanimity even in indigent status. Prayers with ''Care'' for others and ''good'' thoughts will certainly make a saint in our mind. Albert Einstein, said once, the child's tuition fee of 75 cents a week was a figure he was never paid by any institution so far, ' cos it was 75 per cent of her total asset. See, it's NOT the amount but ''what percentage of one's worth is given out'' is the criterion.

I Won't 'Vigorously' Back Obama Re-election Bid: Howard Dean
merrie
by merrie  12-17-2009
SCARBOROUGH: "Not vigorously." Boy, I can almost feel the confetti falling on my head here! My two cents: the MSM has largely been portraying Dean as a principled progressive opponent of ObamaCare. I say that good old personal spite might also be motivating Doc Dean. Remember that it was the very same Robert Gibbs who, during the 2003 Dem presidential primary campaign, was behind a TV ad showing OBL (Osama bin Laden) and suggesting Dean was incapable of protecting American's national security. PBO (Barak 0bama) has also hurt Dean's feelings, snubbing him for the HHS Secretary post which many Dems felt was his due.

Prisons Taking Work From Private Sector: Current Employees Laid Off
merrie
by merrie  12-10-2009    1
at an Otisville, N.Y. prison are continuing their jobs: producing solar panels The insanity continues: “green jobs” are turning into “orange jumpsuit” jobs. Unfortunately, most Americans remain unaware of the Federal Prison Industries’ (FPI) exploits. FPI employs cheap prison labor " compensating inmates at wages of between 23 cents and $1.15 an hour " to assemble products purchased by federal agencies under a mandatory source arrangement. Mandatory source status means if a federal agency needs to purchase a product offered by FPI, the agency must buy it from FPI, even if the price is higher, the quality lower or the delivery longer than that of commercial products FPI has used its competitive advantage for years to expand its business into such industries as furniture, vehicular components and textiles. Just recently we learned Traverse Bay Manufacturing Inc. a family-owned textile products business in northern Michigan, also is losing business to federal prisoners

Geithner Says Credit-Default Swaps Weren't the Problem, After All.
merrie
by merrie  11-20-2009    3
But if Mr. Geithner now says the AIG bailout wasn't driven by a need to rescue CDS counterparties, then what was the point? Why pay Goldman and even foreign banks like Societe Generale billions of tax dollars to make them whole? Regulators say that having taxpayers buy out the counterparties improved AIG's liquidity position, but why was it important to keep AIG liquid if not to protect some class of creditors? Yesterday, Mr. Geithner introduced a new explanation, which is that AIG might not have been able to pay claims to its insurance policy holders: "AIG was providing a range of insurance products to households across the country. Yet, if there is one thing that all observers seemed to agree on last year, it was that AIG's money to pay policyholders was segregated and safe inside the regulated insurance subsidiaries. If the real systemic danger was the condition of these highly regulated subsidiaries"where there was no CDS trading"then the Beltway narrative implodes.

Talking of USA, it is one country that significantly increased its post-independence size through purchase of land from Russia, France, Mexico, Denmark etc. It must have made the most profitable land deal in history when it purchased Alaska from Russia at a little over 7 million dollars in 1867, which comes to about $10 per sq. mile (2 cents per acre). Just imagine that Alaska accounts for 20% of total oil production in USA, not to speak of the huge reserves of natural gas, and mineral resources like coal, gold, zinc etc. and you will appreciate the magnitude of the bargain!

Kucinich: Why I voted NO
blackroseheart
by blackroseheart  11-9-2009
I'm so torn. I think we should have fought harder for a single-payer bill, even though I know that would have been a much harder battle. But I don't think that voting no on this was the solution, either. As much as I would like BIG CHANGE, I know that can't happen in one fell swoop. Baby steps, unfortunately, will get us to that final goal. Hopefully, the public will realize, soon, that we need single payer!

Bank boss says 'we do God's work'
tabsey
by tabsey  11-8-2009    2
Another example of religion being used to justify a position. I think it belittles religion and the religious. The misuse of religion gives an insight into the way they handle taking someone's last cents, before sending them to jail for not being rich. They would also believe that there is a special place in the afterlife for them and it is all good. They don't believe in suffering now to achieve glory in the next life (Mother Theresa and those types can have all of that - and a small donation - will suffice) The bonuses will be awarded to compensate workers for having to listen to people who seemed to have morals, over the last couple of years; and a reward for adjusting to honesty until the smoke cleared.
