Really fun article with solid information and common senes suggestions.See the additional headings below: "3. Kill your landline. If you have a cell account, you don't need a landline, so they're just jacking you for money. And didn't we already discuss how you should unplug your cable? 4. Reacquire your wealth. The easiest way for the Federal Reserve, led by Time Magazine's ludicrous Person of the Year Ben Bernanke, to pick your pocket is through your accounts and investments... 5. Pacify your portfolio......chances are it's probably still poisoned by hyperleveraged funds or other financial stratagems, invested in oil, housing, malls, SUVs.... .6. Take credit. If you have more than two credit cards, you're simply asking for trouble. 7. Avoid CDs and DVDs: 8. Stop buying bottled water, factory-farmed beef and new cars, especially hybrids. 9. POPSIran Police Clash With Protesters Activists in Turkey say the Opposition used other methods to coordinate this protest, including distributing leaflets and CDs and simple word of mouth. Elsewhere, plain clothes members of the Government's besieged militia gathered on motorcycles ready to charge down any demonstrations. Protests like these are now infrequent but are a sign that Iran's government has failed to completely crush dissent.

POPSDubai Restructuring Causes Waves The ongoing Dubai restructuring story, combined with recent restructurings in Kazakhstan and Ukraine, raises questions over the quality of sovereign support for quasi-sovereign names. The risk is that in the aftermath of this, rating agencies take a less generous interpretation of sovereign support and we see a wave of quasi-sovereign downgrades. Investors will then demand a higher risk premium for holding assets of those quasi-sovereigns without explicit sovereign guarantees. Hence, developments in Dubai have broader market resonance and the CDS market has continued to react negatively with spreads widening dramatically, especially those of the less well thought of sovereign names. POPSGeithner Says Credit-Default Swaps Weren't the Problem, After All.
But if Mr. Geithner now says the AIG bailout wasn't driven by a need to rescue CDS counterparties, then what was the point? Why pay Goldman and even foreign banks like Societe Generale billions of tax dollars to make them whole? Regulators say that having taxpayers buy out the counterparties improved AIG's liquidity position, but why was it important to keep AIG liquid if not to protect some class of creditors? Yesterday, Mr. Geithner introduced a new explanation, which is that AIG might not have been able to pay claims to its insurance policy holders: "AIG was providing a range of insurance products to households across the country. Yet, if there is one thing that all observers seemed to agree on last year, it was that AIG's money to pay policyholders was segregated and safe inside the regulated insurance subsidiaries. If the real systemic danger was the condition of these highly regulated subsidiaries"where there was no CDS trading"then the Beltway narrative implodes.
