Doctors for Patient Freedom: "No Government Run Health Care"
merrie
by merrie  9-10-2009
Rationing is the only way to control costs if third parties control all of health care financing . Universal Coverage by health insurance is neither achievable nor necessary while Universal Access to medical care is. An Individual mandate to buy health insurance is a slippery slope to socialized medicine and leads to many unintended consequences. Doctors will be forced to comply with government rationing protocols through use of cookbook medicine and electronic medical record systems. Medical Care will only get better under a free market system. Government and private charities have the capacity to take care of the poor. The tax code needs to be changed to grant Medical financial power to Americans, not to force Americans to act against their interests or grow the size of government.

This was a fraudulent publicity stunt, deliberately done. A. Jones is a fraud out for money and web hits and discredits legitimate questions by doing so. The truth is too important for gimmicks and fraudulent games like this.

On Wed, July 22, 2009 a TOTAL ECLIPSE of the Sun..
WomanInTheMoon11
by WomanInTheMoon11  7-15-2009
This from the July 15, 2009 Survival Center Newsletter: There are 3 eclipses in a row. The 1st just happened - a partial lunar eclipse in the sign of Sagittarius on July 7th. The 2nd is a total solar eclipse in the sign of Cancer on July 22nd. And the 3rd is another partial lunar eclipse in the sign of Capricorn on August 6th. The 2 lunar eclipses are expected to be minor both in terms of astrology and astronomy- they won’t be visibly obvious at all, so they’re not believed to have any big impact on those of us down here. Though the lunar eclipses won’t be all that impactful the solar eclipse will, and it will be visible to millions of people in Asia and the Pacific. Just in: On Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at 04:22:32 AM (CDT) a great shallow magnitude 7.8 earthquake occurred on a ridge between Australia and Antarctica: "..the earthquake having resulted from slip on the subduction thrust interface between the Pacific and Australian plates."

Researchers Explain the Destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah
clip-on-tie
by clip-on-tie  6-20-2009    7
Searching for Sodom and Gomorrah - http://www.bib-arch.org/e-features/sodom-and-gomorrah.asp "As suggested by Amos Frumkin in his May/June 2009 BAR article on the salt pillar known as Lot’s Wife, the Sodom story told in the Bible likely represents an ancient memory of a single catastrophic event that affected the cities and peoples of the Dead Sea region nearly 4,000 years ago." Really interesting article.

Time to Change "Climate Change"
tabsey
by tabsey  3-14-2009
The second is that we have to stop calling it climate change. Using "climate change" to describe events like this, with their devastating implications for global food security, water supplies and human settlements, is like describing a foreign invasion as an unexpected visit, or bombs as unwanted deliveries. It's a ridiculously neutral term for the biggest potential catastrophe humankind has ever encountered.

Medicare Regulates to Perfection
Rustee
by Rustee  1-27-2009
Penalizing hospitals for events that cannot be prevented is counterproductive and leads to unintended consequences, including driving up the cost of care by exposing patients to more testing, thereby decreasing access to medical care. Hospitals might be motivated to order tests, without clear medical symptoms, to show that any infection caught from within its walls was already pre-existing. Furthermore, some institutions could decide not to admit or perform elective procedures on high-risk patients, particularly the elderly, out of fear of being denied payment for complications it cannot prevent. While withholding payment for inexcusable medical mistakes is a sensible concept, Medicare's decision to penalize hospitals for more nuanced complications raises the bar too high. You cannot regulate perfection.

State of Emergency: The US in the Final Six Months of the George W. Bush Administration
papananook
by papananook  6-13-2008    1
Despite time constraints, there are clear signs that the president, the vice-president and their neocon collaborators are not finished. The constant saber-rattling toward Iran, with strong support from Israel, should send a chill down the spine of any peace-loving American. Military chiefs who oppose the president are “retired,” as observed most recently with the March dismissals of CENTCOM commander Admiral William Fallon and 6th Fleet commander Vice-Admiral John Stufflebeem. Public opinion counts for nothing. In a March 24 interview with ABC’s Martha Raddatz, vice president Dick Cheney responded to a question about the war weariness of Americans with a languid “So?”

Large methane release could cause abrupt climate change
Silkweaver
by Silkweaver  5-29-2008
“This is a major concern because it’s possible that only a little warming can unleash this trapped methane. Unzippering the methane reservoir could potentially warm the Earth tens of degrees, and the mechanism could be geologically very rapid. Such a violent, zipper-like opening of the clathrates could have triggered a catastrophic climate and biogeochemical reorganization of the ocean and atmosphere around 635 million years ago.”

Unearthing clues of catastrophic earthquakes
invictus
by invictus  4-17-2008
There is still much to be known about ancient earthquakes. The instrumental record for seismology is short, going back 100 years. The historical seismology record is a much longer, including written documentation such as news accounts and diaries, which vary widely by culture and region. The archeoseismic record serves as the bridge between historical accounts and the paleoseismic record of Earth’s history.

Bringing Dangerous Animal Virus To U.S. Mainland?
merrie
by merrie  4-12-2008
Foot-and-mouth virus can be carried on a worker's breath or clothes, or vehicles leaving a lab, and is so contagious it has been confined to Plum Island, N.Y., for more than a half-century — far from commercial livestock. The existing lab is 100 miles northeast of New York City in the Long Island Sound, accessible only by ferry or helicopter. Researchers there who work with the live virus are not permitted to own animals at home that would be susceptible, and they must wait at least a week before attending outside events where such animals might perform, such as a circus. An epidemic in 2001 devastated Britain's livestock industry, as the government slaughtered 6 million sheep, cows and pigs. Last year, in a less serious outbreak, Britain's health and safety agency concluded the virus probably escaped from a site shared by a government research center and a vaccine maker. Other outbreaks have occurred in Taiwan in 1997 and China last year and in 2006.

“Global Warming Censored”
merrie
by merrie  3-3-2008
The conference is being run by the Heartland Institute. The Business & Media Institute is one of several co-sponsors and will be reporting from the event. BMI will also be hosting a panel discussion on the media’s involvement in advancing alarmism. Those who challenge the popular theories that humans are causing global warming or that climate change will lead to catastrophic events are often ignored by the media or branded as “skeptics,” “cynics” or “deniers.” The media have been eager to report on climate change throughout modern history, alternating between the imminent threat of global cooling and global warming in the past century. The recent trend in media-driven global warming alarmism has seen the media glorifying crusaders like former Vice President Al Gore while vilifying -- or ignoring -- scientists and others who don’t buy into the hype.

Reagan Would Lose Today
sahara
by sahara  1-11-2008    1
In today's Republican party climate, Reagan would not get the nomination today. Whether you view this as good or bad, this video is one of the best I have seen, it is worth a look. Non-intervention is not isolation, it is a means to preserve peace, while maintaining good relations and trade. If any other country's government were to try to dictate policy here, if they planted permanent bases on our soil, we would not stand for it. To say we were attacked because we are free is really grasping at straws and just makes no sense, it shows the true ignorance of foreign policy that most of the candidates appear to have today, and sadly, many are buying into it, while they decline to allow for a closer look into our biggest national tragedy in decades. If we bury history, if we do not educate ourselves and learn everything there is to know regarding catastrophic events, we are damned to repeat them.

DANGER:Rampant Deforestation Of Species-Rich Tropical Forests
merrie
by merrie  12-16-2007    1
SPIEGEL: Are you saying that the greenhouse effect could even help improve biodiversity in the long term? Reichholf: Exactly. And this can also be clearly inferred from the insights of evolutionary biology. Biodiversity reached its peak at the end of the tertiary age, a few million years ago, when it was much warmer than it is today. The development went in a completely different direction when the ice ages came and temperatures dropped, causing a massive extinction of species, especially in the north. This also explains why Europe has such a high capacity to absorb species from warmer regions. It just so happens that we have many unoccupied ecological niches in our less biodiverse part of the world. Biologically speaking, we are children of the tropics. Wherever man lives, he artificially creates tropical living conditions. We do this with warm clothing, and with heated offices and homes. A tropical temperature of about 27 degrees Celsius (80 degrees Fahrenheit) prevails.

THE SHOCK DOCTRINE: The rise of disaster capitalism
thinkingblue
by thinkingblue  9-18-2007    3
I am clipmarking this in part because I received a comment on another clipmarks - Dear thinkingblue, Dear thinkingblue, I'm just picking out your clip and comment to make a general observation about the attitude of so many in this country today. I would venture to say that most with this attitude are too young to have any real understanding or experience of, say- WWI or WWII. When faced with an enemy that threatens the survival of our nation and freedoms, the MAIN responsibility of Our President is to protect us, individually and collectively (as a Nation). What saddens me today is that so many have adopted the views of the Liberal Media, simply because they have heard these opinions repeated over and over again for years now. The definition of this process is "Deception by Propaganda". If everyone would reserve their opinions on important matters until they actually did some research and gave issues some thought, instead of swallowing, then repeating what they here. (continued)
