POPSBuild Good Credit Without Credit Cards Borrow from Yourself " This is the easiest method to establish your own credit history without a credit card. Buy a Certificate of Deposit (CD) from a bank. Then take out a secured loan against the CD for the same amount of time. Put the money you borrowed in a high-yield checking account. Then use the money you borrowed to payback the secured loan. You'll be establishing a credit history and earning interest on your checking account and CD. There are some downfalls to this method. You need the starting capital to fund the CD. You could end up paying more interest on the secured loan than earn through your CD and checking account; however, it's probably less than what you'd pay in fees and interest if you used a credit card. Just make sure to weigh the true costs before going down this road.

POPSAustralia's Dark and Dirty Secret Thousands of citizens are now calling for action against the cruel trade in kangaroo fur and meat and I am confident that the Parliament will act. This is a cruel trade … every year, 440,000 joeys are pulled from their pouch when their mothers are left to die.'' The push, which comes just six months after Russia placed a ban on kangaroo meat after concerns of contamination with E.coli bacteria, has also received an unexpected fillip from the former Polish prime minister Professor Jerzy Buzek, who is the president of the European Parliament. He said the campaign was ''important and valuable'' and wished it every success in encouraging ''as many EU citizens as possible to support'' the project''.

POPSSpecies of the Day - 3rd February 2010 - leopardus-colocolo
The Pampas Cat, Leopardus colocolo, is listed as ‘Near Threatened’ on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species™. It occurs in central Brazil, and from the Peruvian Andes to southwestern South America, where, as the name suggests, it is typically associated with pampas grasslands, although it can be found in a very broad range of habitats. Until international trade ceased in 1987, the Pampas Cat was hunted extensively for pelts. Today, habitat destruction is likely to be the main threat, with much of the pampas grasslands having been converted to agriculture or heavily grazed. The Pampas Cat is also killed in retaliation for taking poultry, and for traditional cultural purposes in some areas. Hunting of the Pampas Cat is prohibited in a number of countries, although the species currently receives no legal protection in Ecuador. The Pampas Cat occurs within a number of protected areas in Argentina, and a few protected areas within the Brazilian savannas (Cerrado). Further resear

POPSCat predicts 50 deaths in RI nursing home Dr Dosa first publicised Oscar's gift in an article in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2007. Since then, the cat has gone on to double the number of imminent deaths it has sensed and convinced the geriatrician that it is no fluke. The tortoiseshell and white cat spends its days pacing from room to room, rarely spending any time with patients except those with just hours to live. If kept outside the room of a dying patient, Oscar will scratch on the door trying to get in. When nurses once placed the cat on the bed of a patient they thought close to death, Oscar "charged out" and went to sit beside someone in another room. The cat's judgement was better than that of the nurses: the second patient died that evening, while the first lived for two more days.

POPSCats of Blockaded Leningrad "The family had cat Maksim and a parrot which was called Jack. Almost every day, their uncle that lived together with them wanted to make a meal ofthe cat and each time the rest of the family went out they always locked the cat into the storeroom. As time passed by, the cat began growing malnourished and sicky because of poor food. Once, Maksim managed to jump onto the cupboard and opened the cage where the parrot Jack lived in. Family thought thatthe cat would eat Jack, but instead of doing so two pets huddled up to one another for warmth and fell asleep. After that, the uncle didn’t try to make anything bad tothe cat. Soon after the parrot died but Maksim survived and happened to be one of the few cats that lived through the blockade. Maksim died in 1957. Of old age"
