Life Expectancy of Cats
foxyarse
by foxyarse  10-26-2009    1
Diet plays an important role in increasing the average life expectancy of cats. The pet food offered to them and their lifestyle play a major part in increasing the chances of a longer life for your cat. If you overfeed your cat, you are lowering its chances of living a healthy, long and satisfying life. The genetic make up of each individual cat also help in increasing the life expectancy of cats. Cat breeds that are genetically prone to certain diseases are known to have a lower life span. The moggie or mouser and similar mixed breeds of cats have a mix genetic make up, that makes the average life expectancy of cats longer than the pure breed cats. When cats are kept indoors they tend to live through a ripe old age of over 15 years. They are less prone to accidents, poisoning, attacks from animals like other cats, dogs, etc. These cats do not succumb to infectious feline diseases, as they are less exposed to other cats. It has been seen that they can live to over 20 years Re

'Suicidal' cows throw themselves off cliff
cakebelly
by cakebelly  8-28-2009    3
cont: There has been speculation in the past that when this does happen it is because a tightly-grouped number of cows have followed each other as they search for more grass. Most scientists generally believe that animals are incapable of committing suicide. Even lemmings, which by popular myth throw themselves off cliffs during mating season, do not take their own lives intentionally. Instead, evolutionary pressures cause them to feel the urge to change habitat at which point they migrate in huge droves.

Earliest 'Human Footprints' Found

continues: "The reason is that carnivores like to eat hands and feet," Professor Bennett told BBC News. "Once the flesh is gone there's a lot of little bones that don't get preserved, so we know very little about the evolution of hands and feet on our ancestors."

The ability to see through things...
einbar
by einbar  8-30-2008
"In today's world, humans have more in common visually with tiny mice in a forest than with a large animal in the jungle. We aren't faced with a great deal of small clutter, and the things that do clutter our visual field — cars and skyscrapers — are much wider than the separation between our eyes, so we can't use our X-ray power to see through them," Changizi says. "If we froze ourselves today and woke up a million years from now, it's possible that it might be difficult for us to look the new human population in the eyes, because by then they might be facing sideways."

Siberian tigers are among the world's most endangered species. They are estimated to number less than 500 in the wild. In about 100 years only a dozen white tigers have been seen in the wild in India. Other Photos at the website include: A 26-day-old endangered Sumatran tiger cub cuddles up to a 5-month-old female orangutan One of Australia's only two 'tigons,' a man-made hybrid created by crossing a male tiger with a lioness, licks its lips at the National Zoo. Bearing the stripes of a tiger and the physique of a lioness, tigons are usually infertile. An Indian Bengal Tiger (Panthera tigris) walks in a pool at a zoo
