POPSStop Wasting Your Vote on Democrats and Republicans (If You Truly Want Change) Voting is a very personal thing. What is right for me may not be right for you. It is something that we should all use our best judgment when doing. But it seems to me to be a waste to vote for a Republican or a Democrat and then expect anything to change for the better. There is an old adage that says something to the effect of if you keep trying the same failed solution to the same problem, you´ll get the same results. In fact, doing that is one definition of crazy. The time has come to shake up the establishment. A vote for a third, forth, fifth or sixth party candidate is not a wasted vote. I believe the majority of Americans in their hearts know this to be true, they just don´t seem to be able to let their brains act upon it. Hopefully, this can change.

POPSAre the Bushies trying to retain control after January 20th? More: "Noting that Bill Clinton also ordered up a transition council on Nov. 27, 2000, Light called his "similar but without all the bells and whistles." Among other things, the Bush executive order could keep agencies busy preparing briefing materials and a Transition Directory to include "federal publications and other materials that provide information on each executive department and agency." Cynics might wonder if the Bush team wants to keep its hands in before the order expires on Feb. 20, 2009, one month after the new president takes office. Whatever the motives, said Light, one of the presidential candidates will need the help more than the other. "McCain has done almost nothing about the transition," he said, except to criticize Obama for saying in mid-summer that he was appointing a team to begin contingency planning."

POPSThe 'unitary executive' question
"Bush's aggressive exercise of unilateral powers has attracted serious opposition. Unfortunately, too many imagine that the unitary executive doctrine and its kingly prerogatives will leave office with him. That hope is false. History teaches that presidents do not give up power -- both Democrats and Republicans have worked to keep it. And besides, hoping the next president will give back some powers means conceding that it is up to him to make that decision." "If people have found Bush's exercise of executive power alarming, they should not only begin questioning presidential candidates about it, they should make it clear to their congressional representatives that they want these excess powers checked. Barack Obama has already promised that he will continue using signing statements, though he will not act as if they have the force of law. Interestingly enough, John McCain has suggested he will end the practice. These slim indicators deserve more pressure and scrutiny."

POPSMcCain Passive/Aggressive on Race Make no mistake, referring to Obama as "different", "unknown" and "not trustworthy" is a direct appeal to the people of the deep south to atavistic racial fears. The issue of race in the south is convoluted and murky. In cosmopolitan centers, like Atlanta, it's hidden and insidious. Half an hour outside Atlanta it's blatant and expressed. McCain, when he deems it advantageous to do so, stokes these fears and hatreds repeatedly. I must say, John Lewis is my congressman. On this issue, he is spot on with his analysis.

POPSClear Republican Voter & PR Machinations
New Yorkers have a chance to vote for Barrack Osama. Having the State Elections Office spelling the names of the candidates correctly is a rather important thing. Three proof readers apparently missed this; we told. My Point is really about another claim of so-called Voter Fraud mentioned frequently on clipmarks: The dastardly ACORN conspiracy to steal the elections by submitting phony names on voter registration cards. Phony names, like: Barrack Osama. The best description of the ACORN accusations, I now realize, is that the Republicans were trying to "make a mountain out of a molehill." -- deliberately whining about this and every stupid thing under the sun, like Obama using the words: "lipstick on a pig," or the bad photo of Palin in Newsweek and Nothing of Substance. I've seen voter fraud. It was a whole voting booth found in the town dump one week after elections. This stuff? Mountains out of molehills to distract and rile up ignorant emotions. Barrack Osama?

POPSModerate Republicans:"Who is John McCain?" John McCain has a serious problem with his own constituency, moderate republicans. They are crossing the aisle too now, to support his opponent. Chafee said he has spoken with several other moderate Republican leaders, and "there are a whole lot of us deserting." About Palin: As for McCain's choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin for his running mate, "there's no question she's totally unqualified," Chafee said. They would do better, however, supporting third party instead of supporting Obama who will NOT change the neocon "war on terrorism" and foreign policy agenda (where he sounds alot like McCain), and will NOT have policies that improve the economy nor restore our constitutional liberties trampled by Homeland Security policies. (Obama has not promised to rescind any of the Exec orders or legislation pushed by Bush gov't. Traditional conservatives have a problem with McCain too, and are leaning toward Constitution or Libertarian party cand

POPSAU Polices Politicking Churches The watchdog group, AU, tries to keep churches in line that recently overstepped the boundary between church and state. Here's hoping the IRS gives the offending church's books a fine looking over. If they wish to engage in partisan politics fine but not on my dime.

POPSMcCain's Chilling Dance With the Dark Side
Now, I'm not saying that it's wrong to ask questions about Obama's relationship, such as it was, with Bill Ayers. Or with Tony Rezko or with Rev. Jeremiah Wright. Just as it wouldn't be inappropriate to raise questions about McCain's association with G. Gordon Liddy, the convicted Watergate burglar whose colorful history includes telling listeners to his radio show in 1994 to shoot federal agents in the head. When McCain went on Liddy's radio show in November 2007, he told Liddy, "I'm proud of you, I'm proud of your family... It's always a pleasure for me to come on your program, Gordon, and congratulations on your continued success and adherence to the principles and philosophies that keep our nation great." The candidates' associations with these people, and their responses to questions about them, give you a view into their judgment. But at a time of great economic uncertainty -- so uncertain that the smartest people in the world are scratching their heads about what to do -- whi

POPSReligious Silliness I wonder if anyone has considered how this might affect the psyche of this little girl? Oh, wait. It's a century old tradition. Well, that's good enough for me.

POPSOver 70 Percent Of CEOs Fear An Obama Presidency Will Be A Disaster “Overall, many CEOs are concerned about the future of the U.S. economy and its ability to compete in the global market, but they look to John McCain and hope that this self-described political maverick may yet shake up established thinking and not give into to the tired policies of the past,” concluded Kopko

POPSI'll Take Hope Over Fear and Loathing, Thank You Very Much I am by training a historian. My focus of study has been 20th century Europe and the rise of fascism. The "othering' taking place on the right and from the Republican candidates themselves is horrifying to behold. Who's to blame for the economic crisis? Barney Frank (faggot!), ACORN (niggers!), Barack Hussein Obama (half-breed Muslim!). I see it on the internet, I see it on TV, I see it in newspapers, I see it here on ClipMarks: race-baiting, fear-mongering, scapegoating. Enough! Not here! Not now! Not ever again! If I may quote Obama, "Not this time!

POPS Obama Joined Democratic Socialist Party In 1995 ...the NP's '96 Political Program has been enormously successful with 3 of 4 endorsed candidates winning electoral primaries. All four candidates attended the NP membership meeting on April 11th to express their gratitude... Barack Obama, victor in the 13th State Senate District, encouraged NPers to join in his task forces on Voter Education and Voter Registration. Obama is not simply an ultra-liberal. He is a Marxist. He campaigned on the Socialist ticket, signed the Socialist contract, and attended Socialist meetings. I'll ask it again: just who in the hell is Barack Obama? And who sent him? Update: American Thinker, Gateway Pundit, Newsbusters and Jammie Wearing Fool have more. Original DSA newsletters: #47 and #42. Linked by: Ace o' Spades. Thanks!

POPSFact Checking McCain & Obama ABC News checked claims by both presidential candidates and found that Obama did, indeed, fill his pockets through Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac. McCain benefited (much less) from those funds, too. As for earmarks? Obama requested $97.4 million in pork-barrel spending...

POPSMcCain pushes $300 billion mortgage plan I def. think he is Fracking high on something. First, this "plan" would piss off a lot of people who bought houses they could afford and would then watch others who bought houses they could not afford (granted given bad advice/loans) and have taxpayers bail them out so they can stay in homes they really should not be in, in the first place. If there had been oversight in the govt and better regulation, none of these people would be in the situation they are in because it would have been a crime for these douche bag mortgage brokers and others to pitch them and give them the loans. So now this guy wants to take another $300 billion on top of the almost trillion the tax payers have already put into this mess. What a fracking idiot.
