Climate: However, she has been a vocal critic of scientists who suggest that climate change is leading to the decrease in polar bears in Alaska. She has also threatened to sue to have polar bears not listed as a threatened species. Immigration: Being that her state only borders Canada and is thousands of miles from the Mexican border, Palin has not often expressed her views publicly on illegal immigration. Health Care: According to her campaign Web site, Palin supports flexibility in government regulations that allow competition in health care. She believes it will drive down health care costs and reduce the need for government subsidies. when Russia defaulted, and the amount of cash leaving the country in the second week of August was the highest on record. Russia's central bank, which reported the $16.5 billion decline last week, still reckons to have $581 billion in reserves, money being stored away when the oil runs out and the gas flow starts to falter. This may come somewhat sooner than many think. Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin spoke after the Cabinet approved the draft federal budget for the next three years, which assumes that Russia's main oil blend, Urals, will sell for at least $95 a barrel. (Russian government's own budget estimates, oil is expected to drop to $90 in 2010 and $88 in 2011.) At current rates of extraction combined with rising national consumption, Russia's known oil reserves will start to run out in the 2020s, and a lack of investment in maintenance and development means the two main gas fields expected to maintain Russia's export income are falling ominously behind schedule.

Whitaker previously had been director of the Illinois Department of Public Health. Obama has said he recommended Whitaker for the state job, giving his name to Tony Rezko, who helped Gov. Blagojevich assemble his Cabinet. Rezko, a former fund-raiser for Obama and Blagojevich, was convicted in June on federal corruption charges tied to state deals. "I've heard complaints from a handful of constituents, but I've also had calls from people in the health care profession complaining," said Ald. Toni Preckwinkle, whose 4th Ward is just north of the hospital. "The medical professionals who have come to me are accusing the university of dumping patients on its neighboring institutions. ... POPSIt's Biden You heard it here last folks. The text was sent pretty late, so I was long gone into dreamland. I woke up, turned on CNN, and caught the news. It wasn't much of a shock. Good choice, bad choice? Dunno. He could've done much worse and I don't think anyone in the running would be any better. There really wasn't a hit it out of the park choice available. Radical Clintonistas won't be happy, but at this point there are about 10 of them. Biden's Wikipedia bio is here . Obama got a lot of coverage out of his text message VP story -- which, let's face it, was a gimmick. But it was a very successful gimmick that sucked up all the oxygen in the newsroom for the past few days. Score one for Obama in the media war. The good news for me is that this frees up one of my dream cabinet members -- Bill Richardson for Secretary of State. Now, if we can just get people to start talking about Attorney General Russ Feingold, I'll be happy as a god

POPSA possible US troop withdrawlment from Iraq?! I'm wondering why this didn't make a bigger splash in the news. Or was I just out of touch that day? This seems like a pretty big deal, if you ask me. I'm not really for or against time lines or withdrawalment because I'm not privy to all the info & far from being a war expert but still, this seems like it would be a pretty big deal to most Americans.

POPSMayor Bloomberg advocating alternative energy for NYC This is an example of the forward thinking, innovative leadership that Mayor Bloomberg has provided to New York City. I'm certainly a fan of term limits, but this is one person i sure hate to see move on...although i would love to see him be a major player in the next president's cabinet. I imagine that if Obama wins, that is a very real possibility.
