Toy Company introduces the 'Doll in a Burka' for Iranian export!
foxyarse
by foxyarse  12-19-2009    1
We also included a removable plastic brain, since our friends in Iran like women that have that feature." They has also added new accessories for their Doll in a Burka line up...A pink suicide bomber vest! A jewel encrusted dagger, and an internal recording that shouts in Farsi.."Down with America!" "Next, for the anniversay of the Iranian Islamic Revolution, we'll be adding the Jimmy Carter doll complete with an array of sharp pins!" Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told friends he was buying three to bring back home from New York City. Since he only has two daughters, speculation is that he wanted one for himself, since he often talked about 'peek-a-booing up a burka' as a source of getting turned on.

Barbie in a Burkha
merrie
by merrie  11-22-2009    3
'I know Barbie was something seen as bad before as an image for girls, but in actual fact the message with Barbie for women is you can be whatever you want to be. 'I have a Barbie in a wheelchair that was only out for six weeks.' The mum-of-two's own Barbie collection is set to be displayed at London's Victoria and Albert Museum in 2012. Barbie was first launched in March 1959 by American businesswoman Ruth Handler. The doll was joined by her long-term boyfriend Ken in 1961. Rosie Shannon, from Save the Children, said all the proceeds from the auction will go to the charity. She said: 'We are delighted Sotheby's and the designer chose to auction the burka Barbie dolls for our charity.' The money will go towards the Rewrite the Future campaign which helps millions of children around the world effected by conflict. Streit um die Burka in Frankreich
Johanna_G
by Johanna_G  7-3-2009

Waiting To Find Someone Else
debbyski
by debbyski  6-2-2009    4
"Even when she lived in Afghanistan, she did not wear a burka as her mother and sisters do. When she was 12, she said, she broke a cultural taboo by sitting with Afghan men to talk politics, encouraged by her father. She then raised $8,000 in a single night, selling home-cooked Afghan meals to American donors. She used the money to create the 100 Mothers Literacy Program to help educate women in her village. At first, there was resistance in Afghanistan, she said -- from village elders and the women themselves. The women said they were too old to learn and preferred that the money be used to build toilets. She said she feared Taliban insurgents or sympathizers would retaliate against them for teaching women -- considered apostasy by some Afghans. "My dad is one of the best dads ever," she said. "If he was a mean dad, it wouldn't be so hard to say no to him."

Afghanistan: The Promise and the Reality
brightlight4
by brightlight4  11-9-2008
I have now spent several days in Afghanistan as an unembedded journalist, travelling around freely without an armed or military escort. Yes, it’s risky and at times nerve-wracking but if I want to find out what is really happening on the ground I’m not going to get it hiding in some hotel compound or army barracks being briefed by an army spokesman who knows even less than me. So far I’ve spoken to men and women from all backgrounds, cultures and Islamic ideologies and without exception they’re hacked off with the American presence. All the goodwill I saw after the fall of the Taliban has been squandered by the military presence of the US as well as the British (no one really distinguishes between the two) and it is crystal clear they have overstayed their welcome. The Taliban are in control of large swathes of the country and are now bordering on Kabul having already carried out several raids on the capital where Afghan leader Hamid Karzai is under virtual siege. SILLIEST PICTURE I'VE EVER SEEN... CAN IT BE REAL?
thinkingblue
by thinkingblue  8-2-2007
(... Sigh, the rest of the world is marching into the 21st century, while sometimes I think the USA is marching back into the MIDDLE AGES! ) "A thought I have had more than once... But back to THE SILLIEST PICTURE I'VE EVER SEEN. I found this pic while in a search for something else... Really caught my eye... thought, No, this can't be real... it's got to be doctored... What do you think? As Vinnie Barbarino, use to say on WELCOME BACK CARTER... 'I'M SOOOOOOOOO CONFUSED!' Are these the people that the neoconservatives thought they could democratize? Then, the Neocons are even more stupid than the guy taking the picture!!! All the suffering, all the wasted lives, all the money spent ALL for NOTHING!"

Wer ein Haus baut, will bleiben. - Zum Kölner Moscheestreit
Johanna_G
by Johanna_G  6-10-2007
