Lighting up one’s garden
martinmc16
by martinmc16  6-23-2009
The greatest advantage of making use of the renewable energy of the sun is that there is no need to lay down wires or to plug anything into a complex electrical box. It’s a green solution and a convenient one. Garden lightings make use of such solar energy as all you need to do is to place the lights within the garden and the sun does the rest of the job. To work efficiently, they need as much sunlight as possible. Garden lightings have built in solar panels or photovoltaic cells that can store the sun’s energy and then use this energy to charge the internal battery of the lamp during daylight hours. This is how these garden lights manage to work so efficiently during the night.

Why The Danish Bumblebee Can Fly

"Tax rates... there is no evidence that these are adversely affecting the ability of these countries to compete effectively in world markets, or to deliver to their respective populations some of the highest standards of living in the world. World-class educational establishments, an extensive safety net, and a highly motivated and skilled labour force.”

I believe
Aribeth
by Aribeth  2-20-2008    8
"I believe in a personal god who cares about me and worries and oversees everything I do. I believe in an impersonal god who set the universe in motion and went off to hang with her girlfriends and doesn't even know that I'm alive. I believe in an empty and godless universe of causal chaos, background noise, and sheer blind luck. I believe that anyone who says sex is overrated just hasn't done it properly. I believe that anyone who claims to know what's going on will lie about the little things too. I believe in absolute honesty and sensible social lies. I believe in a woman's right to choose, a baby's right to live, that while all human life is sacred there's nothing wrong with the death penalty if you can trust the legal system implicitly, and that no one but a moron would ever trust the legal system. I believe that life is a game, that life is a cruel joke, and that life is what happens when you're alive and that you might as well lie back and enjoy it." Neil Gaiman

Thousands of hyphens bite the dust
Vernae
by Vernae  9-23-2007
First kids didn't have to learn to tie knots, thanks to velcro, then they didn't have to learn to add because they have calculators, then they didn't have to make those long trips to the library to use the encyclopedias, and now this? No more struggling over whether or not to put in a hyphen? Talk about a good life! Seriously, didn't English teachers get way to bent over such trivial trash? I struggled over these odd little hyphen things and am grateful that they are willing to step up and modify the English language to reflect how the majority uses it.
