It's worth it in the long run, but they'll need to work on the price to really get a market with private homes. Big Business should make the investment to switch over now though.

Hybrid Lighting
n2sooners
by n2sooners  6-12-2008    1
Interesting. That would take care of my biggest complaint about CFLs. Sometimes a slow start up isn't so bad (like when you wake up in the morning), but it bites when you need light now and really defeats the purpose of emergency and security lighting.

Mysterious Outburst from the Edge of the Milky Way
tabsey
by tabsey  6-11-2008
The outburst may represent a transitory stage in a star's evolution that is rarely seen. The star has some similarities to highly unstable aging stars called eruptive variables, which suddenly and unpredictably increase in brightness.

EPA cleanup tips for Congress mandated CFL bulbs
Smoke TNT
by Smoke TNT  6-4-2008
Important steps to know since the government has dictated that these bulbs will be mandatory in 2012. Here's more: Clean-Up Steps for Hard Surfaces * Carefully scoop up glass pieces and powder using stiff paper or cardboard and place them in a glass jar with metal lid (such as a canning jar) or in a sealed plastic bag. * Use sticky tape, such as duct tape, to pick up any remaining small glass fragments and powder. * Wipe the area clean with damp paper towels or disposable wet wipes. Place towels in the glass jar or plastic bag. * Do not use a vacuum or broom to clean up the broken bulb on hard surfaces. Clean-up Steps for Carpeting or Rug * Carefully pick up glass fragments and place them in a glass jar with metal lid (such as a canning jar) or in a sealed plastic bag. * Use sticky tape, such as duct tape, to pick up any remaining small glass fragments and powder. * If vacuuming is needed after all visible materials are removed, vacuum the a

Saazs' Light-emitting Glass
affisch
by affisch  5-21-2008
Eco-friendly lightbulbs are an energy efficient step in the right direction, but it could be that the bulb’s days are numbered. First we had light-emitting wallpaper, and now Saazs’ light-emitting glass plates. Using planilum technology, these plates are the world’s first active light-emitting glass. Incorporated into shelves and tables, the technology provides beautiful, understated lighting for homes and offices.
