POPSAutumn is Apple Time Early varieties include the classic Red Delicious, which are striped to solid and red, and have a sweet taste; and the Jonagold, a cross between a Jonathan and a Golden Delicious, and are bright red and can be sweet or slightly tart. Later varieties include Rome, Fuji, Granny Smith, and Jonathan. Romes are a deep red and are slightly sweet. Fuji’s range in color from gold to red and often have red striping, and are great for snacking. Granny Smith apples are green, tart apples that are perfect for baking. Jonathans have light red stripes over deep red or yellow and are slightly tart. For a quick and easy simmered fall punch, combine 2 cups apple juice, 1/2 cup orange juice, 1/4 tsp. cinnamon, and 2 or 3 cloves. Simmer on the stove for 20 to 30 minutes. Remove cloves before serving. ---------------------------

POPSBeef Stroganoff- The Healthier Version My kids like to refer to this as “creamy pasta” and request it often. As I don’t like to use a lot of processed foods, I was trying to find a way to make a healthier version of this classic recipe, and I was able to come up with a way! This recipe is for a family of four. 1 pound 93% lean ground beef handful of onions clove of garlic 1 cup of fresh sliced mushrooms 2 cups organic beef broth 1 teaspoon organic tomato paste 8 ounces sour cream (low fat or non-fat) Salt and pepper to taste 12 ounces egg noodles Brown your onions and garlic in olive oil under the onions are soft, about five to ten minutes. Add the ground beef and beef broth and cook until beef is no longer pink, add tomato paste and the sour cream, cook a little longer until mixture starts to thicken, add salt and pepper to taste. Serve over egg noodles and enjoy. www.staying-healthy.info

POPSrestaurant: Pho Ga Hai Phong, Oakland
New restaurant in our neighborhood. Tasty food. More: Since age 9, Mommy had to cook all the meals for her entire family of eight, because her parents were out working hard to catch fish on their boat all day. She learned to make soup broth and other simple meals by wandering around and watching the neighbors cook. When she was 13 years old, she learned to make pho and honed her Vietnamese culinary skills…Mommy often worked in various restaurants…as a dishwasher or assistant in the kitchen, where she observed the chefs preparing exquisite dishes…It was Mommy’s dream to be the head chef of a restaurant where she could determine the menu items and share her home-style cooking and serve her family's favorite dishes, such as Pho Ga, Bun Rieu (vermicelli noodles with shrimp, crab, and egg soup), clam chowder, BBQ short ribs, and New York steak with everyone. This is why the Pho Ga Hai Phong menu offers 3 distinct cuisines: Vietnamese, Chinese, and American.

POPSSaffron ; The Flavor and Fragrance of Joy and Laugh! It takes 225000 hand-picked stigmas from the saffron crocus to make a single pound, making saffron the world's most expensive spice( Each saffron crocus has just three stigmas ). you must share the joy of saffron with those you love (or wish to love), hence the double yield. Enjoy!

POPSMSG: the secret behind the savor More: I made two versions of pad kee mao, with and without Maggi, and while both were good, the one with MSG had the kind of round flavor I’d normally associate with homemade chicken stock or some form of professional expertise. Tasted straight, though, the sauces had the chemical, tangy aftertaste common to many processed foods. “Too much MSG and you get that harsh, acrid taste,” said Mr. Pelaccio, who uses an empty barrel of Ajinomoto-brand MSG he found on the street as a plant stand in his Chinatown apartment. “But get it just right and that dish will sing.”… The role of MSG in food, and its effects on health, remain controversial…MSG is blamed by some groups for a range of serious neurological and physiological disorders…But no large-scale clinical research has been done since the F.D.A.’s 1995 review.
