POPSBill and Melinda Gates pledge 120 million to boost African, Indian farmers Oh noez. Corporate America, Bill Gates, is dropping 120 million to help Africa and India. So liberals, this must horrify you right? Because corporations are "evil" in your nightmares or did you confuse it with an episode of "Fringe". Moan for me libs. Moan about America and whine because Americans, Bill and Melinda Gates, just blew your mind. Where's that fatty Michael Moore-on anyway? Probably sitting in Krispy Kreme or Dominoes Pizza stuffing his fat face. I know this news isn't as important as the Christians eating fried chicken at the Baptist Church, but who could compete with a horror show like that. Waaaaahhhhhh corporations......waaaaahhhhhh Christians........wahhhhhhh Rush Limbaugh.......waaaaaahhhhhhhhhh. Boohoo. Cry me a river.

POPSAir-fueled battery could last up to 10 times longer more (at source): Improved capacity is thanks to the addition of a component that uses oxygen drawn from the air during discharge, replacing one chemical constituent used in rechargeable batteries today. Not having to carry the chemicals around in the battery offers more energy for the same size battery. Reducing the size and weight of batteries with the necessary charge capacity has been a long-running battle for developers of electric cars. The STAIR (St Andrews Air) cell should be cheaper than today's rechargeables too. The new component is made of porous carbon, which is far less expensive than the lithium cobalt oxide it replaces.

POPS "Why have SMS rates doubled?" Congress to cell carriers..."I am concerned with whether this consolidation and increased market power by the major carriers has contributed to this doubling of text-messaging rates over the last three years," wroteKohl, who gave the carriers a month to justify their higher SMS rates. U.S. texters sent 2.5 billion SMS messages in June—each day, mind you, or 78 billion messages for the month. That's a staggering 160-percent increase over last year, the CTIA reports—as well as a lot of money for the carriers, who collectively raked in $14.8 billion in wireless data revenue in the first half of 2008.

POPSSymbian upgrades its OS, fights off rivals Om Malik at GigaOM has the scope on an interesting upgrade from Symbian, and will probably help then when compared to Windows Mobile, Palm, BlackBerry, and the upcoming iPhone, but I fear that the platform is too shortsighted in its original underpinnings to compete significantly. Every Symbian based device I've used has performance and scaling issues not seen on the other platforms - even BlackBerry.
