POPSUS Mileage Standards Up for First Time: By 1 MPG Overall The increase of 1 mpg overall for the fleet of all passenger cars and sport utilities and pickups doesn't seem like much of a boost. But it is the first time that the standards for the entire fleet has been raised and it will cost the industry $1.4 billion during hard economic times. So perhaps this increment is the best that can be expected under the circumstances.
