POPSClimate Change Re-visitedby
dcoda Yesterday 5:09 PM One of the books questioning current claims about global warming is called "The Climate Caper", by Paltridge. The unusual cold and snow, along with Climategate, has many of us wondering just what's going on. This book may just shed some light on the problem. From a review of the book," What is missing from this book - and it might be a positive or a negative, depending on your reasons for reading - is any mention of the fact of geological history that for the past 2.5 million years our planet has been yo-yoing into and out of ice ages (spending roughly 90% of the time in them), and the successive ice periods are deeper and colder, whilst successive warm periods are less warm; and the regular schedule has us down for another ice age right now. The book's message seems to be "The global warming claims are not a cause for concern." But that is not going far enough in my opinion. There really is a big cause for concern, namely that the alarmism is recommending exactly the most dangerous p

POPSDaily Presidential Tacking Poll
As the federal budget debate heats up, just 35% of voters realize that most federal spending goes to just three areas: National Defense, Social Security, and Medicare. Check out our review of last week’s key polls to see “What They Told Us.” The Presidential Approval Index is calculated by subtracting the number who Strongly Disapprove from the number who Strongly Approve. It is updated daily at 9:30 a.m. Eastern (sign up for free daily e-mail update). Updates are also available on Twitter and Facebook. Overall, 44% of voters say they at least somewhat approve of the President's performance. That matches the lowest level of overall approval yet measured for this president. Fifty-five percent (55%) now disapprove. The first review of Scott Rasmussen’s new book said “In Search of Self-Governance promises to be the type of provocative and compelling tome for the decade to come that The Third Wave and The Tipping Point were in decades past.” Larry Sabato calls it a “thought-pro

POPSGeorge Carlin: The Last Words You Can't Say on Television Check out the NPR interview (laugh-filled half hour) link--very funny I really miss GC...I can almost hear his voice sneering and railing at the hypocrisy of the Obama escalation and embrace of the MIC. "That motherfucking twit Obummer is actually falling for the cocksuckers in the Pentagon's shit-licking perpetual war agenda..." or something funnier and more cutting, I'm sure.

POPSKashmir sculptures: an iconographical study of Brahmanical sculptures Kashmir occupies a central position in Asia with its borders touching Pakistan, Afghanistan, China and Tibet. This gave rise to the rich cultural matrix in the valley, including religion, philosophy, literature, history, music, fine arts and aesthetics. There has been continuous sculptural activity in the region spanning over a period of thousand years. Despite the rich treasure trove of Kashmiri sculptural images and their most distinctive regional style, a very little research work is done in this area. The present book is an attempt in that direction.

POPS"The Book of Eli" -- Film Review
tin-pot dictator named Carnegie (Gary Oldman with his patented theatrical sleaze) holds sway. There is no discernible reason why he should rule a gang unless it's because he's the exception to the rule of near-universal illiteracy. (Carnegie is perusing a biography of Mussolini, please note.) When Carnegie learns that Eli possesses a Bible, he means to win him over to his cause or kill him -- whatever it takes to gain control of that book. Both men see the Bible as the key to social regeneration. A voice has commanded Eli to take the Bible west, where it will be the foundation of a new Earth. Carnegie sees the book as a means of controlling people and their loyalties, as many false prophets have before him. Caught in the showdown between two determined men are Carnegie's adopted daughter, Solara (Mila Kunis), and mistress Claudia (Jennifer Beals) as well as his henchman, Redridge (Ray Stevenson), who fancies Solara for himself. hollywoodreporter http://bit.ly/6Tj7lC
