POPSSimilar Web - A Must-Have Add On For Blogging & Web Research
I know, I know...another gadget review post. But, this is a must-read. If you are a "dyed-in-the-wool" Firefoxer like me, then you probably have more than a few of your favorite add ons for various tasks. One of my favorite add ons for blogging and web research is Similar Web, and frankly, I can't imagine surfing the Internet without it. Similar Web works like this: Let's say you are researching a topic and you already know of one website that deals with it. Unfortunately, that's not enough. Perhaps, the topic demands more results, or in order to be thorough or authoritative, you need to review more information. For example, this evening, I was researching blog directories for listing my blog Cyber-Esq. I already knew of Technorati, Bloglines, and Blog Catalog, but listing one's blog with 3 directories may not get it noticed. POPSSchool Librarianship Getting Noticed... When I started in librarian school, all of my classmates, including myself, cringed at the thought of being a school librarian. I remember, Dr. Chu, stood in front of the orientation meeting and asked, "Does anyone want to be a school librarian?" No hands were raised but there were looks of fear and maybe even some of disgust. Why would you want that job? Kids? no job security? Kids? After holding practically every position one can have in a library and archive, I became one. It is one of the most challenging positions I have ever had. I learn from my colleagues and my students. I have to constantly be up-to-date on what is going on outside the library field. I get to do what I love and I love what I do. And I'm not just saying that. For the first time in my life, I actually really love my job or as we joke..my career. So here's to you fellow School Librarians and Media Specialists! Cheers!

POPSA round of applause Maison Bisson is trying something new. I don't entirely understand how this is all going to work, but the potential is a bit mind-bending...at least for my mostly non-tech head.

POPSYou want to see a butterfly? A poke on tract evangelism I used to own tracts, but I never liked them. Even as a kid, I though they were cheesy. As I grew older, and several complete strangers gave me a tract on the street, I got a very sour taste when I encountered them, because it felt so impersonal and cold. Most people that gave me a tract didn't even ask me my name- it was as if they were filling a quota over actually connecting with me. Here's a little humor on the the topic from The Core Blog...
