POPSEmergency! Congress Debates Burying the Goldstone Report! "TELL CONGRESS TO RESPECT US AND INTERNATIONAL LAW!" "What message are we sending to the rest of the world when we grant Israel complete impunity? This legislation has very important implications beyond the war crimes committed in Gaza. Israel has responded to the report by demanding the Western powers rewrite international and US law, warning that acceptance of the Goldstone report will mean that the US’ military campaigns in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan will be subject to similar scrutiny. (Judge Goldstone has drawn a distinction – stating that his report finds that Israel deliberately targeted civilians). This legislation also ignores serious allegations that Israel has violated the US Arms Export Control Act."

POPSApproved by White House ~ Reform Media.Transform Democracy
Is Dissent ‘Legitimate’? Not According to Campaign Finance Laws by Bert Gall and Robert Frommer -- Pajamas Media After the administration decreed that Fox is not a “legitimate news organization” and that people shouldn’t watch it, more people than ever are tuning in to see Glenn Beck and Bill O’Reilly fight back. Fundamentally, it’s because the administration’s media war against Fox is but a minor display of the tremendous power the government has to stifle speech it views as illegitimate. Much of this power is the result of long-standing “campaign finance” laws. These laws impose all sorts of restrictions on political speech, and it’s no coincidence that the most draconian of these restrictions are targeted at those who can speak the most effectively against a politician’s reelection. The most effective speakers tend to be those who can spend the most money. Corporations, many of which have lots of money, receive particularly harsh treatment under

POPSJoe Biden: the worrying rise of Barack Obama’s Mr Wrong The real difficulty with Mr Biden, however, is his judgment. On all the big questions, he has been – to put it politely – on the wrong side of history. The problem is that Mr Obama may now be listening to Mr Biden. Having supposedly already settled on an Afghan strategy in March, he is giving a very public impression of Hamlet as he wrings his hands and conducts endless White House debates – with details leaked to the press – about what to do.

POPSObama Talks Afghanistan and Counterterrorism, Acorn Chief Addresses Scrutiny, Feingold Examines ‘Czars’ Antiterrorist: Obama will also make his first public visit to the National Counterterrorism Center today where he will deliver remarks. It’s the first terrorism-related event for the president since the arrest of terror suspect Najibullah Zazi last month in Denver. Obama’s remarks come a day after Attorney General Eric Holder, FBI Director Robert Mueller, and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano stressed the importance of cooperation between federal and local law enforcement agencies to stop terrorism at a Monday law enforcement conference in Denver.

POPSA Reason to "Support Our Troops" -- Bring 'em Back Home From Afghanistan!
The troops' loss of heart to fight is intellectually sound. Depression is caused, in part, by cognitive dissonance, when two things do not square correctly, i.e. we are here to defend the U.S.? Really? The war is an elite war and part of a global agenda, not based upon any credible threat to the U.S. from Afghanistan. Nor is invading and occupying a country a very credible way to prevent terrorism, even if you believe the official propaganda to be true. Now the greatest threat to the continued bipartisan-believed (neocon initiated) propaganda (which Obama continues) is this reality of the troops morale ....you know, the one's whose very lives are at stake in a foreign country, and family lives are divided (unlike those in armchairs who promote the war and send them and claim to "support them"). See "Cost of War in Afghanistan" clipmark below. Also, National Guard from each state were never intended to be deployed like full time military in foreign wars.

POPSCountdown: Senators Opposed to "Socialized" Health Insurance Voted for "Socialized" Property Insuran
But each of them voted just last year in support of government-run insurance, that insurance however protects property. It is the National Flood Insurance Program created in 1968, because the free market decided it could not make money on that unpredictable risk called flooding. Government-run flood insurance is sold through private insurance companies but it is backed by the government and the government assumes all risk. Unlike the public option which relies on customer premiums, government flood insurance gets a subsidy—also known as a handout—from the government and it is mandatory for some people. So given all the shouting over a public option, who could vote for mandatory taxpayer subsidized, anti- free market socialized flood insurance run by government bureaucrats? Every single politician I just named and most of Congress. Charles Boustany of Louisiana, along with 44 other Republicans, including going bipartisan on September 27th, 2007 to vote yea on the Flood Insurance Refo

POPSSo Much For Health Care Reform Anybody following the money on this issue knew we'd never see any real progress, and now that's been confirmed. Corporations pay to keep health expenses high, so that's where they'll stay for yet another administration. This has been going on for six decades.

POPSSenate panel rejects health 'public option' Thank goodness. More work needs to be done to see that private insurance companies meet the needs of their policy holders while still being able to have the money to PAY for the costs. In my opinion, the answer lies in tort reform, independent oversight, freedom to choose, and no federal interference in how my doctor & I negotiate my healthcare.

POPSWhite House: We blew it on Gitmo First of all, who counseled Team Obama against closing Gitmo? I don’t recall anything but wall to wall proclamations from Obama himself about how he was going to shut it down. So if there were advisors, they apparently knew a lot more about governing than Obama did. But the big admission is that they had no plan. When you elect a guy who has never run so much as a lemonade stand to be president, you can’t expect to have him succeed, never mind excel, at a job as complex as that of President of the United States. Of course no failure of the Obama administration would be complete without blaming George W. Bush for his part in the debacle. I am sure everyone remembers Bush and his pals all talking about closing Guantanamo Bay all year last year, right? Uh, well it slips my memory, but I am sure we have video of Bush and Obama at a press conference talking about the bipartisan plan to close Gitmo. Anybody seen that? I didn’t think so.

POPSFDR: electric Power and Health Reform <<<The political anger was fierce and unrelenting at this and other Roosevelt initiatives. According to New Deal historian William Edward Leuchtenberg, one US Senator compared the President to the beast of the Apocalypse, "who sets his slimy mark on everything." One enraged citizen wrote to FDR, "If you were a good and honest man, Jesus Christ would not have crippled you." The REA public option survived the frenzy. By the time the juice reached our neighborhood, more than 90 percent of American farms were electrified, nearly all of them by rural electric coops. At the worst of the storm against Roosevelt's initiatives, it seemed there were no limits to incivility. >>>

POPSObama Plan, Nation's Sick To Be Transferred to "Health Camps" Radical, experimental medical "procedures" would be made readily available as a means of attaining a final solution to a patient's problem, while also furthering the canon of medical knowledge for the doctors. The camps would also feature ample opportunity for physical activity outdoors, very condensed sleeping quarters to allow patrons to more closely interact with one another, and even luxurious "day-spas." These spas would let clients relax in an enclosed, private environment and breathe in the therapeutic mists which aromatically pervade the room. All of this to be enjoyed wearing nothing but a towel and with mud on your face. "It's a gas," said Obama of the spa facilities.

POPSI Give Harry Reid A Direct Warning: Start Looking For Outplacement Services Go ahead, make my day. We will spend whatever it takes, call as many Nevada voters as we can, write and email as much material as it takes (your pathetic record on the economy since taking over in 2006, for starters) to defeat you in 2010. Does the year 1994 ring a bell? Well, the outrage now dwarfs that of '94. Americans aren't ready for Dear Leader's brand of socialism. Not by a long shot. You want to overhaul one-sixth of the economy, against the wishes of the American people, with 20 hours of debate? Hey, Reid: call an outplacement service. Now. Before the rush.

POPSFor Obama, It's 'My Way or the Highway' he complains: "We are the only advanced democracy on earth ... that allows such hardships for millions of its people. There are now more than 30 million American citizens who cannot get coverage. ... We spend 1 1/2 times more per person on health care than any other country, but we aren't any healthier for it." As to his claimed number of uninsured, e's temporarily removed the illegal aliens to lower the number from 47 million to 30 million. But he's still lying to say 30 million "cannot get coverage." Again, 18 million of these make more than $50,000 a year and can afford health care but choose not to purchase it. And millions more have access to government programs and don't access them, which, incidentally, doesn't bode well for Obama's mandated universal coverage plan. And if he has such bipartisan intentions, why did he spend a significant part of his speech demonizing his opponents and misrepresenting their motives?

POPSObama Makes Moral Case for Health Care Reform Obama did four key things in the speech. * He made the moral case for health care reform, referencing Senator Ted Kennedy many times throughout (read the Kennedy's letter to the president here), saying: "We are the only advanced democracy on Earth – the only wealthy nation – that allows such hardships for millions of its people. There are now more than thirty million American citizens who cannot get coverage. In just a two year period, one in every three Americans goes without health care coverage at some point. And every day, 14,000 Americans lose their coverage. In other words, it can happen to anyone." He made the reasonable case for bipartisanship He demonstrated that he will no longer suffer fools: And he provided the Congressional Progressive Caucus the cover it needs to pass a plan with a strong public option:

POPSCharles Boustany Republican Response to President Obama's Address on Health Care “Boustany is a common-sense conservative who can communicate our vision for health care reform, and how we want to work with the President to do what the American people want: lower health care costs. He’s also led the effort on behalf of House Republicans to reach out to the other side of the aisle to find real bipartisan reform. We’re pleased with this David-Goliath matchup tomorrow night.” Cokie Roberts, who knows a thing or two about Louisiana politics, points out that Boustany has a Kennedy connection. He's related to Vicki Kennedy (whose father was a Louisiana politician and judge) and Boustany's wife is related to former LA governor Edwin Edwards. http://blogs.abcnews.com/george/2009/09/breaking-rep-charles-boustany-of-la-to-deliver-gop-response-on-health-care.html Charles Boustany Republican response to President Obama's address on health care to the joint session of Congress 09 September 2009

POPS“Happy Cows” in California? Not with Schwarzenegger Around… Despite having no arguments, Schwarzenegger has openly mocked this bill on his twitter page, along with making a video to prove his point, with the stance that no one should be bothering with cow tails when the economy is suffering. If signed into law, California would be the first state to ban tail docking in dairy cattle. You can contact the Governor’s office to urge him to sign the bill by emailing governor@governor.ca.gov or by calling 916-445-2841.

POPSHouse Democrats’ Government Takeover Creates 53 New Government Programs, Offices, & Bureaucracies: Detailed Analysis Washington, Sep 3 - Democrats continue to claim that their health care legislation will not increase the federal deficit, even though the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office has revealed the truth: the bill actually increases the deficit by $239 billion. One of the reasons it’s so expensive is the plethora of new federal government programs it would create. House Republican Leader John Boehner offers comment. Here they are, as identified by the House Republican Conference, chaired by Rep. Mike Pence (R-IN) (#1 through #53) http://republicanleader.house.gov/News/DocumentSingle.aspx?DocumentID=143465 Print version of this document at link

POPS"White House Adviser Apologizes for Calling Republicans A--holes" This man can say whatever he wants, the problem comes when the President of the United States would choose such a despicable, classless person to "advise" him. How can we not be surprised at the appalling stuff that comes out of the White House when he surrounds himself with such people?
