POPSBailout Might Make Things Worse * Hundreds of leading economists, including numerous Nobel prize winners, question the bailout * Former White House economist (Steve Hanke) adamantly opposes the bailout * Nobel prize economist and former chief economist of the World Bank (Joseph Stiglitz) opposes the bailout *The former Secretary of the Treasury (Paul O'Neill) questions the bailout * A prominent economist (Nouriel Roubini) says "The Treasury plan is a disgrace: a bailout of reckless bankers, lenders and investors that provides little direct debt relief to borrowers and financially stressed households and that will come at a very high cost to the US taxpayer. And the plan does nothing to resolve the severe stress in money markets and interbank markets that are now close to a systemic meltdown." * A highly-regarded economist (Michael Hudson) says that the bailout is a giveaway that will cause hyperinflation and dollar collapse

POPSCitizen Journalism And Steve Jobbs It is simply silly to decry "citizen journalism" because one "citizen journalist" got the story wrong, intentionally or otherwise. Actually, the term "citizen journalism" is silly. It is a way for big media to differentiate themselves from the "citizens". People say things on the street. People say things in their home, at work, on the train, and in email, Twitter and on their blogs. This is all information. The fact that it continues to be necessary to think about what you hear and run it through filters is no different for any information source. I certainly would never take a CNN, or Fox or MSNBC news story as gospel. Would you?

POPSThe VP Debate
"When it came to domestic issues, Ms. Palin mainly relied on enthusiasm and humor, talking about hockey moms, soccer moms and Joe Sixpack almost as often as she used the word “maverick” to describe Mr. McCain or herself. But she offered virtually no detail — beyond the Republican mantra of tax cuts — for how she and Mr. McCain would address the financial crisis or help Americans avoid foreclosure or what programs they would cut because of the country’s disastrous fiscal problems. Ms. Palin’s primary tactic was simply to repeat the same thing over and over: John McCain is a maverick. So is she. To stay on that course, she had to indulge in some wildly circular logic: America does not want another Washington insider. They want Mr. McCain (who has been in Congress for nearly 26 years). Ms. Palin condemned Wall Street greed and said she and Mr. McCain would “demand” strict oversight. In virtually the next breath, she said government should “get out of the way” of American business."

POPSWhy renting makes more financial sense than homeownership
Questions/Objections "Renters throw money down the drain."...If you have $300,000 and a choice between spending it on a house or shares, you'll pay $6,000 a year in incidentals if you buy the house or about $15,000 a year ($1,250 a month) in rent if you buy the shares. But the shares will return $21,000 a year after inflation while the house will return zero.... "House buyers get tax breaks." So do share buyers, but both are a bad deal... "What about the pride of home ownership?" It's not for me. I define ownership as no longer having to pay for something and being able to do as I please with it. I own my coffee maker. House owners must pay taxes each year even when their mortgage payments are done. In certain markets they can't even make changes to the houses they've paid for without seeking the approval of others... "Are you saying I should sell my big house and rent an apartment instead?" I'm not trying to win anyone over. Strong demand for houses keeps my rent cheap.[/qu

POPSCouric Hides Embarrassing Palin Tape CBS is getting a little too cozy with Republican candidates in exchange for exclusivity. This goes against journalistic ethics and just plain good common sense. There have been several other signs of favoritism by Couric and CBS towards the McCain campaign which smacks of CBS becoming a media machine for the Republican party. Palin is reported to be unable to name another Supreme Court ruling aside from Roe v Wade; and she floundered on simple American political history questions taught to middle school students. The fact that Palin somehow graduated from University of Idaho with a minor in political science makes these flounderings and blunders unacceptable as a Vice Presidential candidate. The Republican Party should hang its head in shame. I wonder how she would do on the TV show "Are you smarter than a 5th grader?"

POPSWhose Iraq Predictions Have Come True? The American people deserve better. Being asked to endorse such a farce is beyond insulting. Clearly, the rosy predictions of the neoconservatives from before the war are not coming true. Far from it! With a straight face, one official estimated the TOTAL cost of reconstruction in Iraq would be just $1.7 billion. Turns out that we spend more than that in ONE WEEK. Our friends are not pitching in to cover the cost. Expenses are not being covered by oil from a grateful and liberated Iraqi people. Rather, big corporate interests are benefiting, the price of oil has more than quadrupled, and the American economy is on its knees and sinking fast. No one predicted the exact course of this war before it started. But to continue to listen to the foreign policy advice of those that were the MOST off-base will only lead to more foreign policy disasters.

POPSThe Governor Palin 'scoop du jour' leads to other questions about elitism, ethics, public health and the insufferable phoniness that plagues politics and politicians. Can you believe the latest scandal over Sarah Palin? She installed a tanning bed in the governor's mansion and -- what's worse -- she paid for the contraption with her own money! The latest scandal over Sarah Palin was first reported by a couple of left-wing nuts at Narco News, an online publicaton that in the past I've seen putting out pro-Hugo Chavez propaganda. Here's the spin on the tanning bed scandal from Narco News: "A politician emerges, we are told, from humble roots and pledges to restore America’s small town family values and represent the common man and woman." And yet all along, the story continues, she's using a tanning bed! It's all on par, according to NarcoNews, with John Edward's $400 haircut!

POPSMy Fair Veep But if you’re reading this, Charlie, we want to know everything, including: What kind of budget-cutter makes a show of getting rid of the state plane, then turns around and bills taxpayers for the travel of her husband and kids between Juneau and Wasilla and sticks the state with a per-diem tab to stay in her own home? When the phone rings at 3 a.m., will she call the Wasilla Assembly of God congregation and ask them to pray on a response, as she asked them to pray for a natural gas pipeline? As Troopergate unfolds here — an inquiry into whether Palin inappropriately fired the commissioner of public safety for refusing to fire her ex-brother-in-law — it raises this question: Who else is on her enemies list and what might she do with the F.B.I.? Why was Sarah for the Bridge to Nowhere before she was against the Bridge to Nowhere, and why was she for earmarks before she was against them? And doesn’t all this make her just as big a flip-flopper as John Kerry?

POPSThe Trojan Moose- Palin Under the Radar It really was the "Best" that McCain and strategy advisers could have done: Sneak one in- "The Trojan Moos" and see how much confusion and destruction that Moose can do. And don't go challenging a Moos In Heat, any Alaskan will tell you. She is the best distraction from all real issues.

POPSForum Mania I believe Pbforum was trying very hard to suck me into there Web of Fourms today....Wikiepedia says ..Upgrades can cost anywhere from $99.50/year to many thousands for enterprise deployments. In the Forum ( I noticed that most of the posts had been made at least 5 months ago...I felt as if I were the only one physically in there reading posts, and asking a few questions...I think there was one guy in their and he brought up the question of wanting his one domain. Do I sound suspicious to you....maybe I'm a tad bit paranoid. I wish I had never logged on with my Yahoo account...but they use that ID verification now...but it's funny Yahoo will not let me access another screen name (yahoo) to retrieve a domain that I bought almost 2 years ago....yahooooo right.

POPSVerizon's Cheat Sheet For Battling AT&T, iPhone Oops! Verizon obviously didn't plan for this flyer--essentially a list of anti-iPhone talking points for its employees--to become public. While the specifics are interesting--there are a lot of exclamatory points!--it's not surprising that the company drew up such a list. I'm sure plenty of consumers walk into Verizon stores inquiring about the iPhone. It's sound business to prepare your employees for such conversations.

POPSPowerMall Debate So, my dear friend, forgive me for not heeding your word of warning. Because you see, my family comes first, what kind of person would I be, if I gave my "time" to strangers, when "my family" are the one's needing my "time". I am not selfish and do not want anyone to suffer, I do what I can, for whom I can, whenever the need arises. I will continue to show my concern, and be of help. I will also continue to find the right people who believe that "together, "we can" make a difference in the world we live in". Even if our world only reaches as far as our own back yard...it makes no difference to "Him"..., just as long as we do something.....

POPS'Obama Sued in Philadelphia Federal Court' "If", and that's a BIG IF, this isn't all some kind of hoax or a simple case of the Obama campaign not having provided the correct information or certificate, or there's some other legitimate explanation, all hell is about to break out in the Obama campaign and Hillary Clinton will have pulled off a hell of a coup! Update; Factcheck.org (owned by The Annenberg Foundation) has a new birth certificate story. As Texasdarlin suggests in her post, this is interesting timing since Obama has just returned from Hawaii. Indeed, what a coincidence that it's today! Update on Federal Lawsuit (Things may be getting more interesting) (As TD suggests, are there links worth investigating between the Barack Obama campaign, William Ayres, the Annenbergs, and ACORN.) POPSMore Big Pharma, Bad Science - Non-smoking Drug Now, which is worse in your opinion... Smoking or Suicide? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out. Most would answer ...I THINK I WOULD RATHER SMOKE THAN FOR SURE KILL MYSELF BY TAKING A DRUG TO NOT SMOKE. The saddest part of this is that they (BIG PHARMA) are using our veterans as Guinea pigs in their trial and error tests. Just so they can put on the market more deadly drugs and coerce, we the public to buy into their schemes that make them rich!
