Italy misses opertunity to defend free speech.
Karzdan
by Karzdan  9-20-2008
Italian officials had a great opportunity to defend the free speech of it's citizens. But instead they opted to appease the ego of the bigoted catholic leader. One thing people keep forgetting, freedom of speech doesn't protect you from hearing stuff you don't like. In fact when people spout stuff you find offensive, you know it's working.

I have no problem with people (And leaders) holding a religious ideology. What I have a problem is when they openly display (While on 'official' duty) their support of their ideology. It's a private matter, and should remain as such. Pray as you want (Or don't at all), just do so in 'unofficial' matters.

Theistic Sanity
AtlLiberal
by AtlLiberal  8-10-2008    4
It's not often that I agree with religious leaders but when I do it deserves to be pointed out. The point that Benedict makes of refuting the claim that evolution promotes atheism is of course correct. Although many, particularly in the States, believe otherwise. Unfortunately, the persons that fall into this category are also people that are the least informed on the subject.

Pope Reasserts Catholic Supremacy Over Protestants
blueridge
by blueridge  7-13-2008    14
His Unholiness reasserts the pre-Reformation, tyrannical and usurping tradition of Papal authority and Roman Catholic supremacy as if Jesus Christ himself taught or authorized his ceremonial priest-craft and Latin Mass ( which is idolatry ), where his Blasphemy, through waving his magic wand and reciting Latin formula ( hocus pocus ) is able to (if you believe this) transform (transubstantiation) mere wafers of bread ("heil presto"--poof!) into the "body of Christ"! Jesus and the apostles never taught such superstition (which hails from Roman paganism, mixed well in its holidays and ecclesiastical hierarchy). The Pope is following the false teaching of Simon Magus, the sorcerer, instead of Simon Peter the apostle. Ritual, ceremony, miters, crosses, candles, pilgrimages, liturgies, and shepherd staffs all make a show of religion (tracing back to Babylonian religions) contrary to the writings of the new testament.

Pope Mesmerizes Bush Toward Catholicism, Religion of Tyrants
blueridge
by blueridge  6-15-2008    3
Not surprising considering his religious superstition, theological ignorance, and false Christian views of war (contrary to Christian principles of "Just Wars" of self defense alone) and worship of democracy as a means of saving the world through military Crusades. He would fit right in with tyrants of Holy Roman Empires of the past. The Tower of St. John impressed him--Rome mesmerizes its ignorant victims through superstition, priest-craft, and relics and symbols, without which it is essentially empty. By the way, this is not to let pagans escape, for some of them were also among the greatest tyrants of imperial wars as well--i.e. Alexander the Great (who was a bisexual pedophile), Caligula, Nero, Pharaohs of Egypt and Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon to name a few. Babylon the Great is typified in the Bible as a final world empire that will be destroyed, headed by a false Christian leader, whom the Reformers believed were Roman Popes but would also fit false Christian presidents

Bush 'may convert to Catholicism'
righthand
by righthand  6-15-2008    6
Yesterday the Vatican was seething at rumours that there was much more to it than protocol: George Bush, lifelong Methodist, was about to convert. The Vatican differs from the White House on immigration and the death penalty but on other issues including stem cell research, gay marriage and abortion there has been, as the Catholic daily L'Avvenire put it, "total harmony." .. Independent He'll have to become a Christian first, won't he?

15,000 pilgrims to pump up to $400,000 into economy
greg naylor
by greg naylor  6-11-2008
Mr Joyce, whose parents Don and Brenda Joyce run Wangaratta Coachlines, estimated around $400,000 would be spent in the local community. "We believe this event will provide a fantastic boost for the local business community as we are spending dollars locally, rather than bringing everything into the town from external locations," he said. Equipment hire, catering, food and beverage, and fuel is being sourced locally, with several people employed as venue managers, and some 50 to 60 volunteers to be recruited from local parishes, schools and community groups. Mr Joyce, who has previously worked on the Commonwealth Games, World Swimming Championships and last year’s APEC meeting, said the event, which is expected to draw more than 220,000 pilgrims, has been a big challenge.
