POPSMunster Lost the Match; Won Kiwi Hearts. I played for Munster as an Inter-Provincial schoolboy having gone to boarding school in Limerick. Ireland has never beaten the All Blacks. Munster did 30 years ago. Missing 9 of the first team due to International duties, an epic match was played with Munster winning until 5 minutes to go. Sportsmanship, on and off the field, won. "Tell them that Munster lost only on the scoreboard but won everywhere that it mattered most – in the hearts, minds and affections of all those privileged enough to be present, including crazily patriotic Kiwis like me who (almost impossibly) would not have been downcast at losing to such a side.

This is a blog the BBC, financed through mine and yours forced subscriptions - you do not have a say in whether or not you pay - because concern are raised in it as to the efficacy of the Beebs editing and reporting. Whilst the Beeb swapped and moved channels so that the elderly and dishevelled licence payer lost contact with their chosen sport, it appeared that the only sportsman that the Beeb was interested in was a brilliant Jamaican sprinter. As there was no British interest in the event, it could be assumed that sports where Brits were going for Gold would take full coverage. No. The Beeb could not even flash up on the screen that the events were going on- on a defined channel. And if they objected to the open reference to the winner of the 400 mts, lets get it straight. The Chinese ambassador in London may yet absent herself from today’s event. Gordon Brown and his cabinet should do likewise. The British, led by Tessa Jowell, the ensnared Olympics minister, periodically intone their “concern for civil rights in China” as if it were a Buddhist mantra. It makes no difference. From the moment the Games were awarded to Beijing, all involved knew they risked becoming quislings to the Chinese cause. China last week welcomed the British government as a member of something called the Olympic family. If this is a family, I hope that for the next four months it is an intensely unhappy one.

The list features senior administrators such as Millwall's executive deputy chairman Heather Rabbatts; assistant chief executive of the Professional Footballers Association Bobby Barnes; and Jason Rockett of Sheffield United - the only black chief executive in professional football. PFA chairman Chris Powell, who is also player-coach at Charlton, joins Ferdinand as the only other current player on the list. Some unfamiliar names are also listed such as Chris Nathaniel, a young agent who has negotiated a seven-figure book deal for England's John Terry and works closely with Ferdinand, Micah Richards, Obafemi Martins and Ryan Babel. The BBC is represented by Garth Crooks and sport radio editor Hepburn Harrison Graham. The list has been supported by football's anti-racism campaign, Kick It Out.
