POPSBar review: Americano, San Francisco More: The vibe: Stylishly comfy, Americano has a distinctly upscale vibe. The crowd: The happy hour scene is packed with co-workers hooting, hollering and some even staggering - all in the name of quitting time. A few hotel guests wander around, looking for a quiet spot to sit, as they observe the alcohol-fueled rituals of San Francisco office workers. Best seat: The lounge, which juts off the dining room, has couches and club chairs perfectly arranged for an after-work gossip session. Killer app: The all-day menu offers plenty of antipasti ($3 each during happy hour; otherwise $7 each or three for $18) that are perfect bar snacks, such as herb-roasted almonds, pork meatballs al forno and artichoke and Brussels sprouts fritti. Three thin-crust pizzas also pair well with the cocktails, especially the pizza Toscana ($14) with salami, mozzarella and crushed tomatoes. I admit\, I can't imagine paying $32 for a glass of wine...

There are other examples at the clip source. In addition to racism, we have to deal with patriarchy in our own commuities which renders crimes against our humanity invisible. Time and time again black women are assaulted by the police and yet the community only seems to rally when a black man is murdered or otherwise injured. Whose lives do we value? Police brutality is not a genderized issue. Our bodies are routinely beaten and in same cases we are subject to the extra indignity of sexual assault. When we speak about police violence being an issue for the black community it needs to be understood that without the inclusion of black women we are not seeing the whole picture.

POPSDating Meeting people in bars, especially one's local watering hole, is indeed a rare occurrence these days. “You're not going to find the person,” offered Lem, Jason's 36-year-old bartending counterpart. “It's going to be a hookup.” Since the days of the singles bar, meeting people socially has gone virtual in the form of various Internet dating and networking sites. Increasingly, Craigslist has become the dirty little secret introducing young couples. One recent headline even asks point blank: Are you willing to lie about how we met? That's not really news, but Craigslist is increasingly the destination for young people (and a few olds) to make new friends and meet new lovers. Perhaps Craigslist is more convenient than the days of singles bars, as it allows one to sift through various pictures, desires and hobbies until a match is made. And besides, many have found apartments and jobs through the site, so why not love or friendship?
