POPSAnother Balkanized Technology Rip-Off
What new technology do you have that isn't already obsolete as soon as you buy it? I can think of only one that I've purchased in the past thirty years. I did actually buy a computer that didn't become obsolete within three years. I can understand it if technology is truly growing and developing, and new, greatly enhanced products are being produced. That doesn't happen very often. From vinyl formats to programs to online image formats to music formats, the balkanized world of technology has introduced its most recent addition: E-BOOK READERS. The concept of importance here is that the e-book reader world is balkanized, separated....segregated, for no good reason. One might surmise that it is greedy desire for exuberant overspending by the consumer. Is this what drives the separation and format variations among the electronic publishers and e-book reader manufacturers? Each e-book reader accepts a few electronic publication formats. NO e-BOOK READER accepts all formats of ele

POPS1000s cheer Palin in Mich. for book tour
I hope someone gives me her book for Christmas. I doubt that she has Presidential aspirations but I believe she is hoping to give encouragement and energy to the conservatives of America who have, honestly, lost all hope that America can rebound from the free-fall over the last several years. As much as I appreciated President Bush (and admired his wife) he was too nice those last several years and allowed the press to bash him mercilessly. Plus I did not agree with the illegal immigration issue. I wish he had pressed more for energy independence but I believe he was worn down and out by the faulty intelligence, the back-biting within his Cabinet, dealing with the causalities of the wars in Afghanistan & Iraq, etc. A person can only handle so much without physically and mentally drawing down. Palin is fresh, feisty, fearsome and committed to her conservative values. That's what people hear..PLUS all the attacks from the MSM which make them like her more!!

POPSMedia Ignoring Conservatives' Return to Dominance of Political Book Market
In September of that year, the Boston Globe proclaimed liberals "triumphant" against "conservatives' decade long hold on popular culture." Yes, it seemed such wonderful liberal values were finally en vogue. Barnes and Noble, reacting to the outpouring of Bush-bashing literature in August of 2003 announced that it would set up ‘political science/cultural affairs' tables at its stores to feature the newest partisan works. But conservatives have reclaimed their hold on the Times's bestseller page. The closest any of the top 15 hard-cover non-fiction books gets to a defense of liberalism or the Obama Administration is In Fed We Trust by David Wessel "The books from the left strike me as an obvious reaction to Bush," conservative commentator Tucker Carlson told the Associated Press in 2003. "And for people who buy them, it's a way of voting against him in an off-election year." With Bush gone, liberals no longer have a blatant target at whom to direct a coordinated

POPSUnpublished Palin memoir already No. 1 Much much scarier than Palin, is the demoralizing realization that there are so very many dimwits who are actually willing to pay money to read the words of this intellectual midget ... the patron saint of fools and charlatans

POPSAuthor attempts to convey essence of Islam, post 9/11 Interesting comment by the publisher at the source: It was my great pleasure to publish this book for Modern History Press. We only very rarely consider fiction works as part of our Reflections of America series and once I picked up Shaila's "Saffron Dreams", I knew this was a story America HAD to read. Regards Victor R. POPSNo Attempt By "Mainstream" Media to Cover Tea Party
Furthurmore, when I opened the SF Chronicle this Sunday morning not only did I not see even one single hint about our visibility rally or any others that came to my attnetion that occured yesterday - but instead I saw two terrible rather close-minded and racist cartoons. In the Opinion section I saw a cartoon showing several very angry looking, fat, older white people. Imagine the hue and cry if it was a leftist protest and they stereotyped any other races or sexual orientations and had them angry and not making any reasonable sense. There was then a second cartoon where two people are wondering where to find out about the details on the Obama-Care program and are asked to follow the "flying monkeys" This is a reference to the Wizard of Oz, with the Wicked Witch orchestrating them all from a conservative radio station office. I try to keep an open mind and share all points of view within reason, being a teacher but the literally immature and blind arrogance and absolute bias by most

POPSSome E-Books Are More Equal Than Others As one of my readers noted, it’s like Barnes & Noble sneaking into our homes in the middle of the night, taking some books that we’ve been reading off our nightstands, and leaving us a check on the coffee table. You want to know the best part? The juicy, plump, dripping irony? The author who was the victim of this Big Brotherish plot was none other than George Orwell. And the books were “1984” and “Animal Farm.”

POPSSettlers of Catan :Redefining Board Games
Most impressive of all, though, Settlers is actually inducting board-game-averse Americans into the cult of German-style gaming. Last year, Settlers doubled its sales on this side of the Atlantic, moving 200,000 copies in the US and Canada—almost unheard-of performance for a new strategy game with nothing but word-of-mouth marketing. It has become the first German-style title to make the leap from game-geek specialty stores to major retailers like Barnes & Noble and Toys "R" Us. Settlers is now poised to become the biggest hit in the US since Risk. Along the way, it's teaching Americans that board games don't have to be either predictable fluff aimed at kids or competitive, hyperintellectual pastimes for eggheads. Through the complex, artful dance of algorithms and probabilities lurking at its core, Settlers manages to be effortlessly fun, intuitively enjoyable, and still intellectually rewarding, a potent combination that's changing the American idea of what a board game can

POPSBarnes & Noble Launches Blogging Booksellers Neat idea. I always look at the Barnes & Noble employee recommended book section whenever I go there. Now, if we can get the B&N team to adopt Clogs for sharing their perspective on what they are reading...

POPSWarning! Passover Family Pack: Everything You Need to Enjoy a Passover Seder Dinner" is Christian! Unfortunately I couldn't clip it all, so go to the link to read it. "Rabbi Tovia Singer, director of Outreach Judaism, warned, "Despite the innocent-sounding title 'Passover Family Pack: Everything You Need to Enjoy a Passover Seder Dinner,' the guide quickly departs from the traditional holiday message once it is opened." "The 'Passover Kit' is an insidious tool Christian organizations use to convert Jewish people," declared Singer, who also urged buyers to lobby booksellers' corporate offices to remove the publication from Judaism publications lists."
