POPSIsrael's nuclear capabilities - 25 Oct 09
"While Israel is one of the loudest voices calling for a tougher line on Iran's nuclear programme, its own nuclear capability has never been put to inspection Israel has two nuclear research centres - at Dimona and Soreq. The latest estimates suggest that Israel has produced at least 118 warheads with weapons grade plutonium. The Jericho ballistic missiles are capable of carrying such weapons The Jericho One, which is now obsolete, had a range of 500 kilometres, and could carry a 20 kiloton nuclear warhead - 20 times more powerful than the US bomb dropped on Hiroshima in 1945 The Jericho Two has a range of 1500 kilometres. It could just reach Iran - and is believed to be able to carry a one megaton nuclear bomb, which is 1,000 times more powerful than the Hiroshima bomb. It is believed a Jericho Three missile is now being developed - that will be able to travel around 5,000 kilometres, bringing all of Iran and Europe into its range Al Jazeera's Nicole Johnston reports

POPS Oliver North::Protecting the Image by Oliver North
Mr. Obama's presentation to the assembly Sept. 23 and his speech to the U.N. Security Council's summit on "nuclear non-proliferation and nuclear disarmament" Sept. 24 were celebrated for their "breadth and understanding" and his "appeal for dialogue in the quest for world peace." But the O-Team's careful choreography collapsed just hours later, when Iran's secret uranium enrichment facility, buried in the mountains near the holy city of Qom, was exposed. In the aftermath, it was revealed that Mr. Obama had known about the site since January. When asked why he failed to mention the Iranian malfeasance in both of his U.N. addresses, a White House spokesman said the administration didn't want "to spoil the image of success" during Mr. Obama's debut at the U.N. Of course, the problem isn't "image"; it's reality. And the reality is that the Iranian pursuit of nuclear weapons has continued unabated for at least a decade. U.S. intelligence confirmed that Tehran was building . . .

POPSA glossary of terms in foreign affairs The Jericho 1 missile, which can carry nuclear warheads or about 1,000 pounds of chemicals or high explosives, was launched from a missile-testing facility at Yavne, Israel, on April 6 and landed about 40 miles from the USS Anzio, they said. . . . ne of the Defense Department officials ... said the repeated "no-notice" launches have made the Pentagon think that the Israelis are trying to prevent the United States from monitoring the tests and acquiring technical data about the operation of the Jericho.

POPS NASA Launches Delta II Rocket The latest Air Force weather forecast offers a 70-percent chance of conditions good enough for liftoff during the one-hour window, with cumulus clouds and showers again the main concern. Heavy clouds moving in from the Atlantic Ocean scrubbed a first launch attempt Wednesday. A second attempt was planned this morning, but a leak from fuel line at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station's Launch Complex 17B prompted another delay. Engineers traced the leak to a corroded weld, located beneath the launch pad, in the line through which nearly 10,000 gallons of RP-1 rocket fuel will be pumped from a storage tank to the rocket. The weld was repaired quickly enough to limit the delay to one day, and NASA says the rocket and spacecraft are ready to fly.

POPSThe Long Retreat ~ Part I by Mark Steyn
to it, perhaps not publicly (just as the US agreement to remove its nuclear missiles from Turkey was not make public during the Cuban Missile Crisis). The Obama Administration's diplomatic strategy is, I believe, wise and comprehensive"but it needs to show more than public concessions over time. A few diplomatic victories wouldn't hurt. Golly. We know, thanks to Jimmy Carter, Joe Klein, and many others, that we critics of President Obama’s health-care policy are by definition racist. Has criticism of Obama’s foreign policy also been deemed racist? Because one can certainly detect the first faint seeds of doubt germinating in dear old Joe’s soon-to-be-racist breast: The Obama administration “needs to show more than public concessions over time” " because otherwise the entire planet may get the vague impression that that’s all there is . Especially if your preemptive capitulations are as felicitously timed as the missile-defense announcement, stiffing the Poles . .

POPSThis doesn't look too good for smartough diplomacy
If this turns out to be true, then it just fits the same sad-sack pattern of all of Obama's diplomacy so far: "engagement" and appeasement as a tradeoff for rebuffs and humiliation. Maybe world powers don't want to negotiate and engage. Maybe they want to get as much power and wealth as they can, while they can. Maybe negotiation and engagement are just playing into their hands, then. Stratfor Intelligence Guidance for today says, Ballistic missile defense (BMD) as a military system had no significance for either Poland or the Czech Republic. It was not designed to defend them. Rather, its presence was a symbol to both countries that the United States was prepared to defend them, because it has a vital strategic asset in their countries. The shock in Poland and Czech Republic is about a symbolic shift from their point of viewAnd furthermore, The timing of the decision is clearly intended to induce Russian cooperation with the United States over Iran. The question is whether the

POPSSmarttough diplomacy at work? I certainly hope so. For the US to get Russian concessions on its support of Iran would practically mean that missile BMD would be superfluous. I don't think we're abandoning allies like the Czechs and Poles either. We don't need BMD to be loyal to them. At least, this is what I hope US authorities are assuring them today. It's not too much to expect that at least this much common sense is on display. It's past time to push Iran into a corner. It's the key insurgency in the region. The Islamic movement had its first success there and it must end there for it to end at all. If this is what it takes, then I say my hat's off to Obama. I'm changing my opinion 180 degrees. Bush would never have dared such a move.

POPSSyria Tests New Scud Missiles Israel has made no secret of the fact that, in a future war with Syria, they estimate that there would be as many as 3,300 Israeli casualties (including up to 200 dead). That's if Syria just used its long range missiles armed with conventional warheads (high explosives or cluster bombs). If the Syrians used chemical warheads, Israeli casualties could be as high as 16,000. Over 200,000 Israelis would be left homeless, and it's believed about a 100,000 would seek to leave the country.

POPSMilitary worries NKorea will attack Hawaii.
?? Having small crazy nations get nuclear weapons (i.e., not nuclear power....but nuke weapons) is a worrisome event. What to do? Who to do it? The U.S. Military, the Cheif of Staff announced his intent to enforce a UN resolution about this...meaning, right now, the U.S. Navy is starting to follow and 'monitor,' North Korean ships suspected of carrying nuke weapons material. Of course, like Congress in 2002 aproved the USA enforcing UN resolutions....the U.N actually has a provision that says one nation can't take the law into it's own hands and the UN enforcement of a UN provision would be done by a UN approved international force....not just the USA Navy taking matters into it's own hands. But it does sound nicer for the warmongers....out there just doing good...only enforcing UN resolutions. But, apparently some fear has to be sprinkled on this...so we have the "fear," that North Korea will nuke Hawaii. !? "Yes, comrade, Let's nuke their resort beaches

POPSU.S. Military Tracking North Korean Ship And here we go. Following all my north korea worry posts. ? If anybody can't see how this is escalating they are blind. BUT now comes the time to see if all these county's are going to back up their backing and do something. I predict by tuesday next week will be at war again with north korea.

POPSThey just are not going to stop until we bomb them Everyday another threat. Everyday like a spoiled child having a tantrum they display another act of aggression. Like Hitler they won't be stopped until action is finally taken. Mark my words i see it coming. Not only the USA but all countries have had it with them. I can almost guarantee you one day soon the headlines will read either they nuked somebody of the world leveled them.

POPS33 Minutes This documentary, from The Heritage Foundation, aims to do just that by highlighting the disastrous consequences of a nuclear explosion on American soil - one that could happen in just 33 minutes.

POPSNKorea threatens nuclear, missile tests North Korea threatened Wednesday to conduct nuclear and missile tests unless the UN Security Council apologizes for criticizing its April 5 rocket launch. Pyongyang's Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the country "will be compelled to take additional measures for self-defense, including nuclear and intercontinental ballistic missile tests" unless the Council apologizes immediately.

POPSRussia & China pose more danger than Iran & N Korea Russia and China pose more of a threat in the nuclear showdown than Iran & N Korea. Russia and China could effectively bring both Iran and N Korea's nuclear ambitions to a halt if they felt it was in each country's best interest. Since both undoubtedly consider rouge states with nuclear weapons only poses a threat to the rest of the world, not themselves, then these two nuclear powers should be viewed as outlaw nations by the rest of the world. They (Russia & China) clearly state by their actions and vetos in the UN, that they do not want a peaceful world.

POPSObama's 'Unprecedented' Onslaught of Domestic, Global Problems Regardless of one's politics, you have to agree that President Obama is facing more of a series of tornado's then whirlwinds. One can already see just how grey his hair is starting to get and the pressure/stress must be just be awful. Yet, he keeps staying, like a fighter being walloped by the giant. Personally, I offer him my prayers and hope that he is given strength, wisdom, and more tenacity than he already has inside to perservere and bring not only this country to a better position, but gain support of world leaders and let the world arrive in balance. A day in his shoes makes my life seem like a day on the beach and my life is pretty crazy itself.

POPSEconomic Stimulus: Bush Fan Stuff is Flying Off the Shelves “OK, Obama goes to a big international summit in Sydney, says ‘Sorry, I don’t speak Australian.’” “I don’t get it. Australians speak English. Sort of.” “Never mind. One more. OK … blah blah blah, Economic Stimulus Plan, blah blah blah House Republicans … and then Obama says, ‘Why don’t you just get some new marching orders from Rush Limbaugh!?!’” “Ha ha ha! Comedy gold! … Hey, we could make Rush Limbaugh cookies!” Bummer the Bush bash biz is falling off, though the article goes on to say Bush fan stuff is flying off the shelves, so that’s something.

POPSUS Aircraft Carriers: Expensive, Defenseless Sitting Ducks Every single change in technology in the past half-century has had "Stop building carriers!" written all over it. And nobody in the Navy brass paid any attention. The lesson here is the same one all of you suckers should have learned from watching the financial news this year: the people at the top are just as dumb as you are, just meaner and greedier. And that goes for the ones running the U.S. surface fleet as much as it does for the GM or Chrysler honchos. Hell, they even look the same.

POPSNorth Korea warns against U.N. action on rocket "What he is doing right now in (these) provocations is ... seeing to what point he can push the rest of the world to get concessions to be able to continue the regime," he said. I'd say N Korea can probably do what ever it wants....leadership in the US would cave to a one-armed robber with a nurff bat and the UN is as potent as a neutered dog.
