Gore: U.S. Climate Bill Will Help Bring About 'Global Governance'
merrie
by merrie  7-13-2009    2
In December 2007, the UN climate conference in Bali, urged the adoption of a global carbon tax that would represent “a global burden sharing system, fair, with solidarity, and legally binding to all nations.” “Finally someone will pay for these costs,” Othmar Schwank, a global tax advocate, said at the 2007 UN conference after a panel titled “A Global CO2 Tax.” Schwank noted that wealthy nations like the U.S. would bear the biggest burden based on the “polluters pay principle.” The U.S. and other wealthy nations need to “contribute significantly more to this global fund,” Schwank explained. He also added, “It is very essential to tax coal.” The tens of billions of dollars per year generated by a global tax would “flow into a global Multilateral Adaptation Fund” to help nations cope with global warming, according to the report.

Endangered Indonesian coral reefs

Southeast Asia's biologically diverse coral reefs will disappear by the end of this century and wipe out coastal economies if climate change isn't addressed, conservation group WWF said in a report. The report, released to coincide with the World Ocean Conference in Manado, Sulawesi, warns that a do-nothing scenario will lead to a steady rise in sea temperatures and the death of the coral reefs.

Climate 2008

In the history of science there have been only a few issues which have mobilized the attention of scientists and policy-makers alike as the issue of climate change currently does. The release of the 4th Assessment produced by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in the summer of 2007 has put the reality of human-induced global warming beyond any doubt. In addition, the high-level event on Climate Change held at the UN Headquarters, New York (24 September 2007), the thirteenth United Nations Climate Change Conference held on the island of Bali (Indonesia) on 3-14 December 2007 and the various strategies and actions plans which are being prepared and implemented all over the world, indicate that the emphasis to this topic will continue to dominate the scientific agenda for decades to come. Although the subject matter of climate change is regarded as a critical issue and sound scientific knowledge is needed in order to address the problem in a holistic way, there is a pa

Investigators counted 700 cylinders of the gas — and the system was said to be visibly leaking. The report says the gases were as lethal to the atmosphere as 48,000 tons of carbon dioxide — which is about the same as the aircraft emissions of all the planes used to fly the delegates to Indonesia.

Simple numbers shape climate talks
zizzy

They were encouraged by the words last week of a key Democratic environmentalist, Sen. John Kerry, discussing the upcoming climate negotiations with The Associated Press. "If scientists are telling us we have to keep Earth's increase in temperature to no more than 2 degrees Celsius and 445 ppm, that has to be the guide," the Massachusetts senator said. "That's the heart and soul of any negotiation."

Coral are sensitive to the acidity of the water, and this is compounded by sensitivity to temperature and light. Coral generally spawn en masse, on one particular moonlit night a year. Another thing that is significant is the number of species that are found only in live coral reefs will likely go the same way as the coral

merrie

Geological, archaeological, oral and written histories all attest to the dramatic challenges posed to past societies from unanticipated changes in temperature, precipitation, winds and other climatic variables. We therefore need to equip nations to become resilient to the full range of these natural phenomena by promoting economic growth and wealth generation. The IPCC Summaries for Policy Makers are the most widely read IPCC reports amongst politicians and non-scientists and are the basis for most climate change policy formulation. Yet these Summaries are prepared by a relatively small core writing team with the final drafts approved line-by-line by government representatives. The great majority of IPCC contributors and reviewers, and the tens of thousands of other scientists who are qualified to comment on these matters, are not involved in the preparation of these documents. The summaries therefore cannot properly be represented as a consensus view among experts.

An Embarrassed Canadian/American
zasel
by zasel  12-12-2007    3
As an American living in Canada, I am embarrassed by both of my countries for working in such an obstructionist fashion to sabotage the climate change conferences they attend. While it is true the former Liberal government made a lot of promises it did not keep, nor was it able to meet its Kyoto commitments, at least they recognized the problem. Finally, when Stephane Dion was made the minister of the environment, he started to do some marvelous work, but the government fell soon thereafter, not really giving him the time to make a difference and to get his plans in place. All that time, the Conservatives in opposition voted down every environmental bill, and referred to the Kyoto protocol as a "Socialist plot." Of course, now that the Canadian public has caught on to this issue, they are pretending to care while the constantly point to the Liberal's inaction rather than actually taking action to work with other countries to get plans moving. What a shame and a fraud.

Of course, this is completely contrary to the 'scientific theory' which has a person display a hypothesis and then test it to see if it's true. As we've known all along, these people have a political agenda; a predetermined conclusion that they force into their models.
