How Long Must Terrorism Go On? How Long?
GlennFrancoSimmons
by GlennFrancoSimmons  12-30-2009
As U2 sings, "How long must this go on; how long?" Religion was not established to murder and be blessed. What wayward thinking that will only bring doom to those who kill in the name of God.

The Necessity of An Educator
GlennFrancoSimmons
by GlennFrancoSimmons  12-25-2009
It is not correct to say all religions are the same; they are not. However, it is truthful to say that all divinely inspired religions, and their Manifestations (Moses, Krishna, Zoroaster, Jesus Christ, Muhammad, etc.) receive Their inspiration from the same Source, the Ancient of Days. So why do we fight? Why is blood shed? Why is there terrorism? Why are there wars? Why is there such a disparity of wealth and poverty in this world, where we are all one, created by the same loving God? Why all this misery when we are brothers and sisters of the same human family where the artificial concept known as race doesn't matter a bit. We are one human race with a magnificent diversity of cultures, lifestyles, viewpoints and religions.

U2 Asks: How Long Must Terror Go On?
GlennFrancoSimmons
by GlennFrancoSimmons  9-22-2009
Peoples of all faiths, cultures, countries, creeds, whatever -- however you define yourself, must unite as one. In my Faith, we call it unity in diversity, although that has now been co-opted by other groups seeking to exploit its true religious meaning. Nonetheless, in this age of the Internet, of instant communications, it is up to the peoples of the world to ensure this small planet's unity. Our leaders waste precious breath, time and resources in their continuing childish political and religious battles, only becoming serious because many have the means to destroy many of us in a single blast, or a single campaign. The peoples of the world need to throw to the scrap heaps of history the outmoded mechanisms of change in the past, namely revolution of whatever political or religious brand you choose, and choose instead a nonviolent revolution of the heart and soul. One that changes humanity from within. Let the foolish leaders continue to be blabbermouths, distorting

Bahai Non-Involvement In Politics
GlennFrancoSimmons
by GlennFrancoSimmons  7-18-2009
Dr. Ali-Murad Davudi’s essay is at once chastening, a cautionary note. Yet it is a loving embrace of a nascent faith, an emerging global religion, the light of which we can as yet not fully observe, but a light that nevertheless is bathing the whole of humanity within God’s loving grace, in which the diversity of humanity will reach its zenith once unity is achieved through God’s loving grace. His apparent martyrdom at first glance for me left a pit in my stomach and terribly saddened my heart and soul. Reading this left me bittersweet. Bitter because I am human and I see his martyrdom as grossly unjust. However, the sweet nectar is that Mr. Dr. Ali-Murad Davudi’s spirit reaches through these words to touch our hearts. The effect is at once profound and humbling. Let his words be studied by all seekers of the light of God of whatever faith. And, if you are of any faith in our one Creator, please say a prayer for Dr. Ali-Murad Davudi, a scholar, a gentle

Unity In Diversity: The Bahai Concept
GlennFrancoSimmons
by GlennFrancoSimmons  7-16-2009
This column explores the use of Bahai concepts and terms. Despite the seeming similarity, there is a vast difference between secular words and/or terms and what they mean to Bahais and others in a spiritual sense. This is not to cast negativity on those who adopt such words and/or terms, just a post to note the difference.

Deafening Silence From Iranians About Pogrom Against Bahais Inspires Appeal
GlennFrancoSimmons
by GlennFrancoSimmons  2-15-2009
"Iranian-born Khosro Shemiranie's account was so articulate that I'm sure it will be preserved for many generations because of its humanitarian appeal. We cannot say that we were not warned." It's worth pointing out that Shemiranie is not a Bahá'í, yet he recognizes the deafening silence that comes from Iran -- once an advanced civilization that has fallen into the depths of darkness that it will hopefully recover from. "What causes astonishment is the silence of the society – a society which at times actively collaborates with these barbaric deeds. "It is no secret that what has befallen the followers of the Bahá'í Faith in Iran has often come about through our own hands. In response to every authority that issued an order or every akhund that produced a religious verdict, tens, hundreds, nay, thousands, of us proceeded to perpetrate harm upon the Bahá'ís and on occasions reddened our hands with their blood. But, why? "The collaboration of various sectors of society with t

Roya Hakakian Prescient When She Wrote 'Then They Came for the Bahai' In Iran
GlennFrancoSimmons
by GlennFrancoSimmons  2-14-2009
Roya Hakakian said, "The current Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has taken a page from Khomeini’s book. He rails against Israel. He denies the Holocaust. Through these means he focuses all attention on Jews, and while the world remains perfectly oblivious his men assault the Bahá'ís. "Since Ahmadinejad’s election to presidency, there has been a sharp rise in anti-Bahá'í literature in government-sponsored journals, which has, in turn, led to a rise in gang attacks against the community. "That the Bahá'ís shy away, per religious mandate, from advocacy on their own behalf surrounds their predicament with even greater silence. "But for those in the West — especially for Jews, who know the lessons of World War II — the plight of the Iranian Bahá'ís is most urgent: It is an act of destruction, not simply promised, but already under way." Although some self-professed Muslims violate their own faith and insult in the filthiest and most-vile of ways the Prophet Muhammad

Ignorance About Religion Leads To Stereotypes, Prejudicial Statements
GlennFrancoSimmons

Islamic Organization's Open Letter To President Ignores Inequality, Oppression
GlennFrancoSimmons
by GlennFrancoSimmons  1-22-2009
In its letter, the OIC said, "... Islam is a religion of peace. Tolerance is its benchmark and borne of the very nature of Islam." I believe that is what The Prophet Muhammad taught, yet it is not what most Islamic ecclesiastical authorities (ayatollahs, caliphs, imams and mullahs) have preached, certainly not since the Bahá'í Faith started in the mid-1800s. Its origin was met with one of the most-gruesome persecutions known to humans. So much for words about tolerance; let's see deeds. I suggest the OIC act as Islam dictates and that is to protect all religious minorities. Again, message to the OIC: "... Let deeds, not words be your adorning."

Progressive Revelation Explains Religions
GlennFrancoSimmons
by GlennFrancoSimmons  1-18-2009
"Each particular religious system represents a stage in the evolution of the whole," the Bahá'í International Community stated. "Bahá'u'lláh attributed the differences in some teachings of the great religions not to any human fallibility of the Founders, but rather to the different requirements of the ages in which the revelations occurred. Moreover, Bahá'ís consider that no one of the Founders is superior to another." "These principles and laws, these firmly-established and mighty systems, have proceeded from one Source and are the rays of one Light," Bahá'u'lláh said in Gleanings from the Writings of Bahá'u'lláh. "That they differ one from another is to be attributed to the varying requirements of the ages in which they were promulgated."
