IRAN PICTURES: 1978-79 Revolution Echoes Protests Today
kkcapricorn
by kkcapricorn  6-27-2009
Photojournalist David Burnett, having been in Iran for less than 48 hours, uncapped his lens and captured some of the most striking pictures from the 1978-79 Iranian revolution, which would depose Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi--images eerily similar to photos coming out of Iran 40 years later. The revolution ultimately put into power the very Islamic republic that is now fending off its own street protests--sparked by a questionable election and stoked now, as before, by killings adopted by the protesters as martyrdoms.

Iran's Ayatollah under threat?
tabsey

To this outsider, the irregularities appear very similar to those reported in Bush's second election. In Iran they are protesting about the result, which is not the same as happened in America.

Fascism at Home Means Fascism Abroad

Shame on all those media outlets that have been complicit in this dirty lie all last week. And shame also on our pathetic secretary of state, who said that she hoped that “the genuine will and desire” of the people of Iran would be reflected in the outcome. Surely she knows that any such contingency was deliberately forestalled to begin with. Earlier this year, I spent a week with Hitchens in Lebanon, and at one point he wandered off to attend a Hezbollah rally in the suburbs south of Beirut. I thought I had seen enough Hezbollah rallies over the last couple of years and could hardly stand the thought of sitting through yet another one of those bigoted scream fests. I wish now that I had gone, though, because Hitchens witnessed an alarming escalation.

U.N. Chief Meets With Ahmadinejad

particularly the demand that it suspend its uranium enrichment. "We expect to hear that the secretary-general told the Iranian president that he was in violation of three Security Council resolutions, that he should comply with international demands to stop enriching uranium, and to stop the crazy talk," a spokesman for the American mission to the United Nations, Richard Grenell, said. Iranian officials increasingly are emphasizing Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini's prophecy that Israel will be erased from the map of the region, but the Western response has been muted. The U.N.-affiliated Food and Agriculture Organization is hosting the three-day food conference in Rome, where yesterday Mr. Ahmadinejad blamed the "bullying powers" for creating a food crisis and called for the formation of "an independent and powerful body" that would "justly regulate" food distribution. Mr. Mugabe, who critics say has single-handedly transformed his country from a food exporter into a starving n

Ahmadinejad: Destruction of Israel close
jatfla
by jatfla  6-3-2007    7
A clip has been posted that has suggested that Pres. Bush is saber-rattling towards Iran. Quite the opposite is true. The Iranian dictator has made no bones about his intentions to destroy Israel and the Great Satan. That's not Bush; it's the US. Even today there is some investigations going on concerning the connections between one of the plotters of the JFK attack and Iran and Venezuela. We can argue about the Shah and our past policies about the Iran/Iraq war, but we have to deal with the very real danger of the current situations.

Iran's President Launches Blog (Yes, For Real!)
Kore7
by Kore7  8-14-2006    4
If this isn't a sign of the times, I don't know what is. Because overwhelming traffic this morning took down the site (English version would have been here ), I clipped a pic of what Ahmadinejad 's first entry looked like, as well as the news story on Yahoo. Fun fact #1: Mahmoud invites visitors to vote in his online poll: "Do you think that the U.S. and Israeli intention and goal by attacking Lebanon is pulling the trigger for another world war?" the president asks visitors to the site, offering them the choice to vote 'yes' or 'no'. Fun fact #2: Mahmoud's blog uses RSS feeds and AJAX and runs on a (illegally acquired?) Windows .NET server .
