Not sure what to make of this actually, but one thing is certain: the Ad Men are coming to Twitter. If I was part of LRs direct advertising team I would surely look into social media and of course, Twitter. That said, I'm just not sure this was the best strategy for Land Rover. Yes, it appears they can target by geos, demos, and interests but I'm not sold on simply using Twitter as more contemporary WOM/buzz media buy. I probably shouldn't dismiss this too quickly, but Land Rover has always tapped into the spirit of adventure, and I'm wondering if they could have looked to other services that would have worked together with Twitter to make for a more compelling UX. Tough to tackle that via paid microbloggers. One other quick note: Land Rover typically appeals to a slightly older (35-49) demo with greater HHI than what most people associate with Twitter users - more anecdotal evidence to compare with recent Comscore data suggesting the largest growth segment on social networking platfo

POPSDiesel-electric hybrids being developed for Wal-Mart trucks I'm trying to imagine how quiet and clean these engines will be as the big trucks wait at stoplights in the towns and cities across America. Ahhhh. What an improvement! More fuel efficient truck engines promise to help the environment and will help Wal-Mart save money. POPSBiofuels is a false hope? An interesting article, but misleading with its statistics. For example, it uses the current measure of cropland acreage to project the potential yield of future ethanol harvests, but it ignores: 1 - biomass crops can grow well where food crops do not; 2 - biomass crops can yield other products in addition to ethanol; 3 - burning ethanol produces less CO2 than burning oil. Overall, I agree that it's a foolish path to replace food with fuel. However, I do believe that replacing some of our petroleum consumption with ethanol is a necessary part of a successul path forward, along with solar, wind, geothermal, tidal, and other clean sources, and let's not forget improved efficiencies (e.g., low power lights and increased miles per gallon) and conservation.
