POPSThe Dark Knight May Be Struck Down By Tropic Thunder After All It couldn't last forever. Eventually someone had to knock The Dark Knight off of the box office throne. Last weekend Pineapple Express took a crack at it (well more of a pot shot really (I know, I know, bad pun) but couldn't muster quite the cash. Now as Batman heads into his fifth weekend, attendance may have finally dwindled enough for someone to topple him.

POPSHouse Republicans Gas "Talkathon" To Continue Monday "But the American people are suffering,” Boehner and Blunt said in the memo. “The consequences of continued congressional inaction on gas prices are unacceptable. We’ve called on the Speaker to call Congress back into an emergency session this month and schedule a vote on the American Energy Act. We must continue to make a stand until the Speaker complies.” Update - Neither Boehner nor Blunt are expected to be in attendance at Monday's talkfest, and its unclear if they will show up at any point during the week. The session will not be televised, but Republicans felt they got a lot of good press out of Friday's "revolt," so they will be back at it again, and younger GOP lawmakers were clearly energized by the tactic, something not evident among Republicans for most of the 110th Congress. hotair at following link: http://hotair.com/archives/2008/08/03/its-on-house-republicans-oil-protest-to-resume-tomorrow/

POPSREAL ID, A Real Threat to Gun Rights Gunowners of America has stated the same, but this article shows how. Like the Social Security card, now used as a national identifier for non-related purposes, REAL ID would morf beyond its stated purpose (because the SSN is one of its central components).

POPSUS and Iran "Diplomacy" Starts--"Good Cop" Tactic But coercing Iran to stop its nuclear enrichment program is the goal. So earlier we saw "bad cop" war games and rhetoric by US and Israel, and now this multinational "diplomacy" will play "good cop", to force the will of the US and Israel on Iran. That is not diplomacy, and the shift is temporary, for the election season. The result (which might be a goal too) will be that the oil traders will sell and lower oil prices will come (as they already did on first news of this), and this game will probably be played between now and Nov. 5th (to help McCain), and then the war-mongering will start again, and possibly an attack by Israel ( per neocon John Bolton's clipmark earlier ) to force the next President's hand into the conflict. Bush does not change from his neocon advisers blueprint. This pragmatism is for political expediency and economic benefit for election season purposes.

POPSAre Your Concert Ticket Prices Going Up? Bands performing at music festivals and similar venues are feeling the pinch with rising gas prices - simply getting themselves and their equipment to the venue is becoming out of reach. Will your ticket price go up accordingly?

POPSObama The "Patriot" but to mend a flawed system and improve upon it. Obama’s falsification of history has the clear purpose of back-dating the credal concept of “patriotism” in the very birth of the nation. For the uninitiated, it means the “haves”—mainly European-Americans—willingly enduring higher taxes to pay for yet more government programs supposedly helping the have-nots—overwhelmingly, of course, the people with whom Obama identifies, to whose grudges he panders, and whose obsessions he shared for 20 years of attendance at Dr. Wright’s (“God damn America”) so-called church. In Obama’s scheme of things his wife, too, can be classified as eminently patriotic, now that for the first time in her life she can be proud of America thanks to the success of his political career. The “bitter” blue-collar whites, by contrast, cannot be patriotic for as long as they cling to guns, religion, and bigotry, all of which supposedly explains their antipathy to him.

POPSReligious beliefs significantly tied to political participation In contrast, if one believes that God is more inactive, as is common with Jews and mainline Protestants, then one would need to take action and more likely be politically engaged. "Our results have wide-ranging implications for both the study of political participation and the field of religion," the authors conclude. "It is focused types of religious beliefs, more than broad religious traditions, which impact political participation."

POPSWhy Americans Are Shunning Hollywood’s Wares
aside to make movies that embody traditional values, it often scores big with the public. Consider 2004’s Spider-Man 2, a sequel far better than the original. The movie is a fable about duty and heroism. The movie resonated powerfully with the public, grossing a whopping $374 million domestically, and it took in another $400 million or so overseas. Factor in DVD sales, and you’re getting close to a billion-dollar movie. The Incredibles affectionately embraces the bourgeois family, flaws and all. The Parrs have their difficulties: teenager Violet is sullen, the kids fight, Mom and Dad bicker, Bob hates his drab insurance job, but for the Parr kids, the family bond is all-important. Pixar’s 2003 runaway winner Finding Nemo, the movie shows children “what adults are supposed to do,” writes author Frederica Mathewes-Green on National Review Online—“to be brave and self-sacrificing, to defend children even at risk to themselves, to give, even in the face of ingratitude.”

POPSObama, Clinton Secret Meeting--Bilderberg Conference Nearby Why the secret meeting, ditching the press corps? After both made speeches to AIPAC it is worthwhile to note where their secret meeting subsequent took place, in Virginia. The annual Bilderberg Conference was 3 miles away from Dulles in Chantilly, VA. How convenient! And the article goes on to talk of Feinstein's much publicized alibi about meeting in her home (but not the entire time). Of course attending publicly would paint a "global elite" label on both of them. (Both of them are in fact members of the Council on Foreign Relations). This indeed would be a real contrast between what Obama campaigns on (supposedly against big corporations that outsource, etc.) when Bilderberg members represent the very anti-thesis of his position. Still trust Obama or Hillary? Read the article in full. Note the source here is World Net Daily and the entire press reported the secrecy and ditching of Obama's press entourage in particular.
