US can give Iran space to accept atom deal: Official
jatfla
by jatfla  11-9-2009    1
What a bunch of fools. The IAEA is a pawn of the Iranians and the majority of UN 'diplomats' are Muslim sympathizers. It's all about stalling and doing nothing while Iran steadily moves on with it's nuclear programs. Why not just give them the dang bomb, shut down the IAEA and the UN, eliminate all diplomatic positions and end the charade. Everyone knows that Iran is NOT going to stop its nuclear weapons development.

The Greatest Threat in the Middle East
merrie
by merrie  10-4-2009    1
Dr. ElBaradei has long considered a confrontational strategy toward Iran to be counterproductive. Responding to calls for the report’s release, he has raised doubts about its completeness and reliability.” ElBaradei’s non-confrontational approach likely explains today’s statement in Tehran that “Israel is the number one threat to the Middle East given the nuclear arms it possesses.” Because it’s much safer to verbally attack democratic nations like Israel than unpredictable authoritarian regimes like Iran. patterico's pontifications http://patterico.com/

Israel 'will attack Iran this year'
foxyarse
by foxyarse  9-17-2009    1
Iran and the major world power are to start talks on the stand off over its nuclear programme, which stands in violation of United Nations resolutions, on Oct 1. Mr Obama's offer to talk to Iran without pre-conditions has made Israel nervous that Tehran will use detente as a cover to complete its drive for an atom bomb. "If Iran gained the bomb it would trigger a regional arms race with Saudi and Egypt quickly obtaining weapons," he said. "We would be living next to three Pakistans."

Could Earth Be Hit, Like Jupiter Just Was?
clip-on-tie
by clip-on-tie  7-29-2009    2
"Small risk" "Billions of years ago, impacts were far more common. Our moon retains a record of the pummeling it and Earth took: the moon's craters remain, while on Earth, most scars of ancient impacts have been folded back into the planet or weathered away. Today's solar system is far less crowded, and in fact Jupiter, having more mass and gravity, scoops up a lot of the dangerous objects, as does the sun. Currently just one NEO of all the objects scientists are tracking poses any significant chance of hitting the Earth — 2007 VK184. If this roughly 425-foot-wide (130 meters) asteroid hit our planet, it would strike with an energy of roughly 150 million tons of TNT, or more than 10,000 times that of the atom bomb dropped on Hiroshima."

Einstein's Relativity Theory Proven
Mohir
by Mohir  11-23-2008    5
So far so good, but here's where things get odd. Gluons have absolutely no mass, while the total mass of the quarks only represents 5% of the mass of the protons and neutrons. So, an explanation for the missing 95% of the mass had to be found. The experts discovered that the missing percentage of the mass derives from the energy resulting from the interactions and movements of the quarks and gluons. This basically states that mass and energy are equivalent, just like Einstein's theory indicated, and, even more: mass can be transmuted into energy and vice versa. Extrapolating on the basis of this equation, it can be calculated how much energy is obtained while converting specific amounts of mass. Sadly, this was also used as a ground for building the atomic bomb. "Until now, this has been a hypothesis," shared the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) in France in a press release, cited by Discovery. "It has now been corroborated for the first time."

Nuclear Fusion Will Become Reality by 2011
Mohir
by Mohir  11-16-2008    3
In its National Ignition Facility (NIF), LLNL will have a laser capable of heating plasma to the absurdly-high temperatures needed for nuclear fusion. The completion of the device is scheduled for 2009, whereas the first test will begin in 2010. Researchers at the lab are confident that, by 2011, they could obtain sustainable and entirely controllable fusion. The year of 2020 was set as a marker for the construction of the first commercial power plant, to employ the new technology. If their endeavors are successful, then the world could see a major transformation, as far as energy production goes. Having a reliable and perfectly safe source of power will virtually eliminate the need for fossil-fuel power plants, and even wind and solar farms will become obsolete. In order for this to happen, governments worldwide will have to make a huge financial effort, to install these energy-producing plants across their territories.

Uri Avnery: How They Stole The Bomb From Us
Rasmus
by Rasmus  12-10-2007    1

World War III Cancelled
Elisabeth Eaves

So it turns out that Iran stopped developing nuclear weapons in 2003, according to the new National Intelligence Estimate. It's easy to distrust the U.S. intelligence community, which not only made mistakes on Al-Qaeda and Iraq, but also told us in 2005 that Tehran was determined to build nukes. But there's at least one thing we can all be relieved about today: Imminent open warfare between the U.S. and Iran is almost certainly off the table.

Ahmadinejad at new air base near Afghanistan: Iran has reached goal of 3,000 centrifuges for uranium enrichment. Within a year's time, Iran will be able to produce a nuclear weapon. That, coupled with a new airbase at Birjand, means that Iran will be better able to defend it's nuclear installations and be a threat to US-led NATO forces fighting terrorists in Afghanistan.
