Bernard Madoff's Mexican Copper Mines
fatlester
by fatlester  11-24-2009
In depth post discussing the striking similarities between the scandal involving Bernard Madoff's Ponzi scheme and Francisco d'Anconia's San Sebastian Copper Mines from Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged". Article considers Madoff's actions in the context of how well they fit the fictional scenario written about by Madoff's friend Alan Greenspan's friend Ayn Rand, as depicted by the character of Francisco d'Anconio.

Rufful and Riddle: Dartmouth Conservative Rappers

“We didn’t think it would blow up to be this big, but it was kind of a way for us to express a pretty unique view,” Riddle said in an interview with The Dartmouth. “We kind of wanted to spread the love that’s behind the conservative movement.” The video was meant to start a dialogue about politics, Riddle said, not to offend any groupAt one point in song, the lyrics state, “Don’t matter if you’re gay, straight, Christian, Muslim / There’s one thing we all hate, it’s called socialism.” “I just hope that people understand that in no way are we trying to hate on anybody,” Riddle said. The online response to the video, which currently has a 1.5 out of five rating on YouTube, has varied. One commenter on the conservative blog Hot Air expressed approval for “the message, the messengers and the media.” “There’s been death threats — waking up to a video of a guy with a skull, that’s not really what we were looking for,” he said referring to YouTube user NikolaiRaged’s video respons

Five Reasons Insanity Is the New Normal In America
ColoradoRight
by ColoradoRight  3-17-2009
Since Barack Obama has been elected, gun sales and copies of Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged have flown off the shelves. Meanwhile, there's a Russian academic all over the news predicting that America will soon collapse, "tea parties" springing up all over the country, and the stock market has been doing a great impression of Michael Richards' career since he left Seinfeld. Is that because people have gone crazy? No, it's the reaction of sane people to the crazy as a football bat insanity that has begun to pass for conventional wisdom in large swathes of America. Living in this country today is like sitting in the back seat of a car that's hurtling towards the edge of a cliff at a hundred miles an hour while the driver fiddles with the radio and the guy in the passenger seat mocks the very idea of using brakes.

Obama Spurs Anxiety On Societal Collapse
merrie

And as you already well know, both firearm and ammunition sales have skyrocketed, and more popular guns and the ammunition for them cannot be had in many locations, at any price, due to scarcity and hoarding. Individual families are preparing, but they also know many people aren't, and so they are stocking up quietly. They do not want to become targets for those who either can't afford to prepare, or who refuse to out of some variation of "it can't happen here" groupthink. Incidentally, Atlas Shrugged, which was written by an author who saw communism take over her country and the damage it wrought, is also once again selling well on Amazon, at #37.

Sales of Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" have almost tripled over the first seven weeks of this year compared with sales for the same period in 2008. This continues a strong trend after bookstore sales reached an all-time annual high in 2008 of about 200,000 copies sold.

In light of the multiple threats on Geert Wilders’s life, security will be very tight: no bags or coats will be allowed, all materials brought in to the room will be searched, and the event organizers reserve the right to deny entry to or eject anyone at any time.

Another gorgeous girl dies at the hands of her "family"....and the gruesome 'honour killing' death toll continues. This story is even more distressing in that a movement to try and place a proper marker/memorial( in place of the number 774) on her grave has been met with both a stunning refusal from her family (also her executioners) and, of course, spineless bs spouted by the ongoing fear based 'DHIMMITUDE ' that continues to plague supposed 'civilized nations' worldwide. Pam Geller from Atlas Shrugged is on the case...GO PAM!! http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2008/12/canada-no-heads.html

'Atlas Shrugged': From Fiction to Fact in 52 Years
merrie
by merrie  1-12-2009    2
Abolishing the income tax. Now that really would be a genuine economic stimulus. Politicians invariably respond to crises -- that in most cases they themselves created -- by spawning new government programs, laws and regulations. These, in turn, generate more havoc and poverty, which inspires the politicians to create more programs . . . and the downward spiral repeats itself until the productive sectors of the economy collapse under the collective weight of taxes and other burdens imposed in the name of fairness, equality and do-goodism. These acts and edicts sound farcical, yes, but no more so than the actual events in Washington, circa 2008. We already have been served up the $700 billion "Emergency Economic Stabilization Act" and the "Auto Industry Financing and Restructuring Act." Now that Barack Obama is in town, he will soon sign into law with great urgency the "American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan."

Their eyes locked with an intensity she was only beginning to understand. Yes, Hank ... claim me ... If we're to win the battle against the leeches, we must get it on ... right now ... Don't let them torture us for our happiness ... or our billions. He tore his eyes away. "I can't. Sex is base and vile!" "No, it's an expression of our highest values and our admiration for each other's minds." "Your mind gives me the biggest boner, Dagny Taggart." He fell upon her like a savage, wielding his mouth like a machete, and in the pleasure she took from him her body became an extension of her quarterly earnings report—proof of her worthiness as a lover. His hard-on was sanction enough. "Scream your secret passions, Hank Rearden!" "Derivatives!" "Yes!" "Credit-default swaps!" "Oh, yes! Yes!" "Collateralized debt obligation." "YES! YES! YES!"

Obama Didn't Have The "Political Courage" To Leave Rev. Wright's Church
merrie
by merrie  11-4-2008
For almost two years, I've been trying to encourage people to go to public appearances by politicians, ask them tough questions, and upload their responses to video sharing sites. A month ago, I sent an open letter to a series of mostly Pajamas Media bloggers urging them to push such a plan, and none of them did. Instead, some pushed loony theories, some sat in a dark corner moaning (PW), and others concentrated on their Amazon sales. Now, one other person from that group - almost assuredly doing so on her own initiative and not on the prompting of the other hacks at PJM - has done something similar to my plan that might have an effect on the election. It would have been better if the person asked had been Obama and if the question had been an actual tough question, but a stumbling gaffe response might be enough to spur others to do something similar in the future.

I'm beginning to believe Angelina Jolie might actually have some sense. Her recent remarks pertaining to Africa and Iraq suggest she has a decent mind. This movie proves it. I am a bit skeptical in the ability of Hollywood to do this film justice. It will be interesting.
