The saddest part of this is that greed is also associated with the self-delusion that they are not really harming the planet and if they are - they have enough money to save themselves. Maybe, we should just call it lunacy since buying a self-contained cabin on Luna (aka: the moon) would be the only way to buy their way out ot eh consequences of their greed and stupidity.

Below, is what I actually wanted to clip, but I couldn't find an English version. This is from a leading national news source in Denmark:. "The coalition is about to burst in Afghanistan, and the mission nearing an end, assesses an Afghanistan-researcher. That is the assessment from Gen. Henry Jedig Jorgensen, Acting Head of Research Unit Danish Institute for Military Studies after the heads of military command and officers today in the Jyllands-Posten have expressed great skepticism about the Afghanistan mission. He stresses that the countries behind the Afghanistan mission are about to ."

Jon Krakauer: McChrystal's Explanation For Pat Tillman Cover-up Is "Preposterous"
ratilfar
by ratilfar  11-2-2009
That may change. On Sunday, journalist Jon Krakauer joined the Meet the Press panel to discuss his new book on Tillman's death called Where Men Win Glory. Krakauer offered a harsh assessment of McChrystal's conduct during that period and even stressed that the General's explanations upon reflection were "preposterous" and "unbelievable."

NATO Agrees - Someone Else Needs To Send More Troops To Afghanistan
merrie
by merrie  10-24-2009
That counterterrorism strategy is identified with Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. In contrast, General McChrystal’s review calls for implementing a full-scale counterinsurgency strategy that focuses on protecting population centers and accelerating the training of Afghan army and police units, both requiring significant numbers of fresh troops. NATO diplomats noted that it was difficult to see how an acceptance of this broad strategy could be viewed as anything but an endorsement of the need to increase both military and civilian contributions. Great! The Little Red Hen has convinced everyone that planting seeds to make bread would be a great idea! Let's see where the Coalition of the Free-Riding takes this. Climate 'Debt' Transfers Billions To Developing Countries
merrie
by merrie  10-22-2009    1
But as much as anything else, the Copenhagen treaty calls for the payment by rich countries of what can probably best be described as climate reparations. It would be "impossible to craft and draft" a detailed plan to effectively combat climate change in time for December. "That is not possible. But it is also not necessary," Mr. De Boer said. "I think what Copenhagen has to achieve is a basic political understanding." "By 2020," the treaty insists "the scale of financial flows to support adaptation in developing countries must be at least US$67-billion in the range of US$70-to US$140-billion" every year. If Ottawa signs on to Copenhagen, the size of our resource-based export economy means Canada may pay more dearly for the UN's latest climate-change arrangement than almost any other country on the planet. And in the end, because it may only shift carbon-intensive production from cleaner countries to less-efficient ones, the entire exercise may do very little . . .

Obama Stands Up to the Military
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  10-18-2009
Despite recent months of Pentagon "leaks," and lobbying the White House is not rolling over to military demands. This action is almost unprecedented, taking great courage and political determination. Our military is suppose to be controlled and led by civilian, political leaders; not by generals. If Obama didn't deserve the Nobel Peace Prize award before (and he did); he certainly deserves it now.

Justice of the Peace Bardwell is wrong that mixed-race children suffer because they are mixed-race
Lexica
by Lexica  10-16-2009
More: These desires and questions don't change just because your parents are from different racial backgrounds. And they certainly don't get easier if your parents are from different faiths, different parts of the world, different ... you name it. So Mr. Bardwell is just simply ridiculous if he thinks he's thinking about the children. Yes, children go through tough times, but we are resilient. Even more important, we learn from our challenges -- and I think we become better people. Because I am of mixed race, I cannot simply stick to stereotypes of how one racial or ethnic group behave. I must look at each individual independent of what I think -- and I think that assessment happens when people look at me and try to figure out what I'm all about. This process of not jumping to conclusions, of really viewing people on some deeper level, makes me a better person. And I think it could work for you, Mr. Bardwell.

Honduras

America's Founding Fathers—like the framers of Honduras's own constitution—believed strong institutions were necessary to defend freedom and democracy from the ambitions of would-be tyrants and dictators. Faced by Mr. Zelaya's attempted usurpations, the institutions of Honduran democracy performed as designed, and as our own Founding Fathers would have hoped. Hondurans are therefore left scratching their heads. They know why Hugo Chávez, Daniel Ortega and the Castro brothers oppose free elections and the removal of would-be dictators, but they can't understand why the Obama administration does. They're not the only ones.

Afghan outlook bleak as Taliban grabs territory
jatfla
by jatfla  10-11-2009
While Obama plans his Peace Prize speech, our declared enemy is defeating our military for lack of commitment by their Commander-in-Chief. This is a travesty. The Taliban will, again, make Afghanistan it's launching site for terror attacks against the West, enslave it's population, and the soldiers who gave their lives there will have done it for nothing. All because of a lack of will. Well Ms Michelle says that she is now proud of America....I couldn't be more ashamed of her husband's treachery and abandonment. This is aiding our enemies and undermining the American soldier. Shame! This is Vietnam times TEN.
