Will She and Burma Ever Be Free?
nedhamson1
by nedhamson1  8-10-2009    2
Burma has been in the military's hands since the 1960's. It is perhaps, testimony of the courage of its people, that there is anything left of free will there. Can we stand by and let this happen - another voice for freedom silenced because the world did nothing?

Indian government is likely to sign a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) and this is a great boost to Unitedworld’s initiative to start India’s first ‘Open economy focused’ B-School at three state capitals. Unitedworld has become first B-School in South East Asia to offer business management programs equipped with open economic business strategies.

Why do displays of compassion differ between East and West?
gingembre
by gingembre  6-12-2008    11
I am trying to understand A bit more: "In many Asian countries, favors invariably create obligations, which is perhaps why people are sometimes disinclined to interfere in the problems of others. You are obliged to take care of your family, your friends, or even your fellow countrymen. But the idea of universal charity is too abstract, and smacks of the kind of unwelcome interference that Western imperialists — and the Christian missionaries who followed them — practiced in the East for too long. The notion of "Asian values," promoted mostly by Singaporean official scribes, was partly a critique of universalist Western claims. Asians, according to this theory, have their own values, which include thrift, deference to authority, the sacrifice of individual to collective interests, and the belief that countries should not stick their noses into others' affairs. Hence, the hesitant response of Southeast Asian governments — and public opinion — to the Burmese disaster." see source

How to avoid war with China?
vietnam
by vietnam  12-12-2007
The dispute on Spratly and Paracel islands in the South East Asia Sea (East Vietnam Sea, or South China Sea) is the hot point that can cause war in Asia. As American and Russian military powers in South East Asia are reduced, now China has the sole sea-force power in this region. They want to take control these islands, to get the oil from that area. More important, reaching Spratlys allows China to control all sea routes from the West to the East, from the North to the South, because those islands are close to the Strait of Malacca (the main ship passageway between the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean). And China seems to use army power to take over those islands. China have no evidence of sovereignty at those islands. Paracels are properties of Vietnam, and Spratlys are of several ASEAN countries. How to avoid war with China? This video clip tells you how China gradually used army to invade the Paracels and Spratlys. We, Vietnam, are threatened by war from this greedy c

EU Tightens Sanctions On Burma Military Junta
merrie
by merrie  11-19-2007
China, Myanmar's closest ally and one of its biggest trading partners, has ruled out imposing sanctions. We discussed the Asean charter only, no other issues,'' Myanmar Foreign Minister U Nyan Win told reporters in Singapore today. ``We don't want to discuss our issue.'' The European Union called for ``genuine'' dialogue for national reconciliation in Myanmar, according to a draft statement to be released after a meeting between the EU and the 10-member Asean group in Singapore on Nov. 22.

Global Hypocrisy on Burma
invictus
by invictus  10-3-2007    4
As for the Burmese people themselves what the world’s wilful impotence in dealing with their brutal rulers indicates is that ultimately they will have to achieve democratic rule in Burma entirely on their own strength. The people of the world will of course support them in whatever way they can but to expect governments around the globe to help topple the Burmese military regime is as unrealistic as asking the regime to step down on its own. There is no option but to keep the struggle going.
