POPS How We Know They Know They Are Lying
with the expectations of the sponsors. Like the royal favourites of mediaeval times, they soar in the air on a zephyr of preferment, only to get too close to the sun and plunge to earth. Which brings us to: Secrecy In the security of powerful patronage some of the new brigade began to think that they were above not only the procedures of science, but of all other academic disciplines as well. In the case of the notorious Hockey Stick, for example, they claimed that knowledge from history, art, literature, archaeology etc. was all wrong and that their computer manipulation of such tenuous data as tree rings established that the Little Ice Age and the Mediaeval Warm Period never happened. The most powerful patrons of all, the UN, seized on the results and made them the main feature of one of their apocalyptic IPCC reports on the coming climate disaster. One of the first tests of any scientific work is to pose the question “Can the results be reproduced?”

POPSA Precious Gift for Lovers of Literature
The Paris Review Interview Archive "Since 1953, when the first issue of the magazine appeared with an interview of E. M. Forster, our Q&A encounters with the great writers of our times have come to be recognized as a sort of literary genre unto themselves: the Paris Review interview. More than fifty years—and more than three hundred interviews—later, the archive continues to grow with each new issue of the magazine. In November 2006, the first volume of a four-book set of The Paris Review Interviews was celebrated by reviewers across the English-speaking world. In tandem with this publishing project, we offer here online a complete index of every interview ever published, searchable by author and by date—as well as a substantial sampling of the archive’s finest interviews, posted in their entirety. Taken together, these conversations with novelists, poets, playwrights, essayists, biographers, journalists, and critics constitute what Salman Rushdie calls “the finest available inqui

POPSAppeal for a worldwide reading for Democracy and Freedom in Iran But the men of God had hardly seized power when they began liquidating a large section of the opposition, executing thousands of dissenters and destroying the indigenous culture in favour of so-called Islamisation, downgrading women as second-class citizens and subjecting art and literature to strict censorship. With the exception of brief uprisings by individuals or small groups, the population remained patient for a long time – for thirty years. But now the scandalous manipulation of the Presidential elections of June 12th has proved too much to bear.

POPSEmma Watson, star of Harry Potter films, is related to 16th century witch Anastasia Tyler, a genealogist from Ancestry.co.uk, who researched Watson's heritage, said: "It is not every day we are able to trace the branches of a family tree back to the 16th century witch trials. "It shows researching your family's past can have just as many twists and turns as a film blockbuster. "As we researched Emma's family, we learned that her great great great grandmother was named Frances Playle - a very uncommon surname. "The Playles have been in a small area of Essex since the early 1500s." Watson grew up in Oxfordshire, roughly 100 miles from the area. The actress, who achieved straight A grades at A level in English literature, geography and art at Headington School in Oxford, is reportedly set to attend Ivy League Brown University, in Rhode Island, USA, in September.

POPSCensor the Book Oh, golly gee! Check out this website that is dedicated to banning or censoring books that are indecent, immoral, racist, and unfit for society. That is, according to their standards. There is a long list of organizations and people that help their efforts. My personal favorite is ‘Sara Palin – Governor of Georgia (2006)’. Yep, that’s right, these people are so blinded in their zeal to shield the public from the ways of reality and keep us all in the dark ages that they don’t even check their own facts. They would paint a rosy world view where nasty things like sex, slavery, bigotry, hate, racial slurs, and ignorance would never be uttered in public much less be written in a book. Some of the greatest literary works would never be read if they had their way. But, as that great thinker Anonymous says: “Great works of art should never be a disguise for the indecency and immoral behavior of mankind. Is that really necessary for the freedom of speech?” I’d say, Hell Yes!

POPS"The bigger the state, the smaller its people." " The state sucks out creativity and dynamism just as much as secularism does. Why do anything for yourself when the state will do it for you? Why take care of others when the state will do it for you? Why have ambition when the state is there to ensure that few or no individuals are rewarded more than others? America has been the center of energy and creativity in almost every area of life because it has remained far more religious than any other industrialized Western democracy and because it has rejected the welfare state social model. "
