Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums needs to explain tax mess or resign
Lexica
by Lexica  11-6-2009    1
More: The debt owed to this city by Dellums is incalculable and there is nothing but pride - or arrogance - standing between him and a full public disclosure of the facts surrounding his tax problem. Anything short of that constitutes unacceptable behavior by a public official and violates the public contract between an elected official and the constituency the office serves. I tried to reach the mayor for comment - but he declined to speak with me, his press secretary Paul Rose told me. No one has asked Dellums to disclose anything that any other politician in the same set of circumstances wouldn't be asked to explain. If he cannot provide a public explanation for a controversy that has become another national embarrassment for this city, it's difficult to see how continuing in his current position is going to be good for anyone - either him or Oakland's citizens.

Searching For Consensus on Afghanistan
merrie
by merrie  10-15-2009    1
share the same strategic interests and that the return to power of the Taliban would automatically mean a new sanctuary for al-Qaeda. Is that a myth? Here is Barack Obama on March 27, 2009, announcing his first new strategy for Afghanistan: "And if the Afghan government falls to the Taliban - or allows al Qaeda to go unchallenged - that country will again be a base for terrorists who want to kill as many of our people as they possibly can." He added: The return in force of al Qaeda terrorists who would accompany the core Taliban leadership would cast Afghanistan under the shadow of perpetual violence. Later in the Post article, the reporters quote a "senior Obama official" comparing Afghanistan and Pakistan. "Eight months ago, if you had asked people which was worse, everybody would have said Pakistan is worse and Afghanistan is in good shape." Afghanistan was in good shape? 2008 was the deadliest year for American troops there. Nobody paying any attention

GOP To Draft Resolution Designed To Oust Rangel: Run Gov. Paterson for Seat!!!
merrie
by merrie  10-6-2009    1
"I'm disappointed in the Congress because everyone's entitled to a full hearing and they're not giving me that," Rangel said. When asked how he feels about Congressman Carter's move to have Rangel step aside from Ways and Means, the Harlem Democrat said, "I'm disappointed in him." During the event Rangel service notice he didn't want any embarrassing questions about the growing ethics storm around him. "I would hate to see anyone attempt to mar this with questions that are not directly related to this exciting event," Rangel said. And here's a new twist. Highly placed Democratic sources told CBS 2 HD they have discussed the possibility of using one damaged New York politician to get rid of another. It centers on having Rangel resign, and giving Gov. David Paterson a dignified way to leave Albany by running for Rangel's congressional seat.

All of which is a way of saying that nasty George W. Bush is no longer around with all his self-righteous swagger, and that with (as Obama did not fail to note) the first African-American installed in the White House, America is now on the same page with the rest of the world. Much of the speech seemed to be an exercise in what Sigmund Freud called "projection," assuming that others think the way you do. Obama spoke as if the mullahs of Iran, the Kim Jong Il clan of North Korea, Vladimir Putin and his gang of oligarchs, and the rulers of China had the same gripes against the Bush administration as Obama and the liberal Democrats in Congress. Hey, if we just close Gitmo, they'll realize that we're all in sympathy now.................. Unfortunately, it is clear that even in the year 2009 the interests of nations and peoples are not as unanimously shared as Obama proclaimed Wednesday. Our diplomats and those of five other nations are scheduled to meet with an

September ‘Surprise’
sahara
by sahara  9-28-2009    1
"The United States was aware of Iran’s unfinished uranium enrichment site for several years, senior U.S. officials told CNN on Friday. U.S. officials have known about the facility since President George W. Bush’s administration, according to the officials who declined to be identified because of the sensitive nature of the negotiations." Yes, the Bushies knew about it, too, and said nothing – but why not? After all, George W. was not exactly known as an apologist for the Iranian regime, and he was no less eager than his successor to tag Tehran as a serial deceiver. The CIA knew about it when they issued that now inconvenient National Intelligence Estimate averring that Iran had abandoned all efforts to militarize its nuclear research in 2003. Were they trying to protect the Iranians, too?

Obama And The “Coarsening Of Dialogue”

ObamaCare supporters aren’t exactly known for their civility, either: After they had already astroturfed and busted heads at several town hall events, Obama’s Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius told SEIU supporters to “keep doing what you’re doing.” A Moveon.org thug bit off the pinkie finger of a an elderly anti-ObamaCare protester at a rally.  This story and the one below about fluffy chicks being ground up alive makes me feel ashamed to be part of the human race. How anyone could sit down to a leg of lamb knowing that a gentle creature had to suffer and be deprived of its life merely to satisfy 5 minutes of a human desire to eat flesh is beyond me. No Attempt By "Mainstream" Media to Cover Tea Party

Furthurmore, when I opened the SF Chronicle this Sunday morning not only did I not see even one single hint about our visibility rally or any others that came to my attnetion that occured yesterday - but instead I saw two terrible rather close-minded and racist cartoons. In the Opinion section I saw a cartoon showing several very angry looking, fat, older white people. Imagine the hue and cry if it was a leftist protest and they stereotyped any other races or sexual orientations and had them angry and not making any reasonable sense. There was then a second cartoon where two people are wondering where to find out about the details on the Obama-Care program and are asked to follow the "flying monkeys" This is a reference to the Wizard of Oz, with the Wicked Witch orchestrating them all from a conservative radio station office. I try to keep an open mind and share all points of view within reason, being a teacher but the literally immature and blind arrogance and absolute bias by most

UC Regents demonstrate tone deafness with raises
Lexica
by Lexica  8-13-2009    1
More: I think reasonable people could agree the current job descriptions of the aforementioned federal employees are just as demanding as the UC employees who received stipends on top of their salaries because they had to assume additional responsibilities. …When I hear the "You got to pay good people" argument, three things come to mind: First, I agree, assuming all things are reasonably normal, which is clearly not the case in California today. Second, good people would know the timing for these raises are poor and if everyone is having to sacrifice, they would at least be amenable to waiting for a more appropriate time. Third, if they can't wait along with the other 180,000, then maybe they are not as good as advertised, and it might be a good idea if they did go somewhere else. …The increased salaries reflect a body insulated from the impact of the abominable timing and perceived arrogance of their actions — a group severely tone deaf of the justifiable public outcr

John Fund Reports on a New Congressional Travel Scandal
merrie
by merrie  8-13-2009    3
"The policy is completely inconsistent," one House member told me. Total per diem allowances (per person, including staff) can top $3,000 for a single trip. Unused funds are supposed to be given back to the government, but congressional records show that rarely happens. It's all part of the "arrogance of D.C.," Sen. Tom Coburn (R., Okla.) told me Monday. "These are lucrative payments since many members have zero expenses overseas." After his last government-sponsored trip to Iraq, Mr. Coburn wrote the U.S. Treasury a check for his unused per diem. Not wanting to be dependent on government handlers, he paid for his own trip to the Middle East a couple of years ago. "I learned a lot more on my own than on the government trips I've been on," he says. The House's official handbook requires that lawmakers use regular U.S. airlines "whenever possible, unless such service is not reasonably available." But congressional records show members routinely take military planes to London,

DEBTOR NATION: Geithner Tells Congress to Increase the Debt--Again!
blueridge
by blueridge  8-10-2009    1
Geithner fronts from within the Treasury for the Fed banksters, who tell Congress, what to do. (Remember Geithner was the head of the New York Federal Reserve Bank before Treasury Secretary): "Congress has never failed to raise the debt limit when necessary," Mr. Geithner said. CONSIDER: If you are a debtor, you owe someone, and are under obligation to them. Now ask the question--"who is the U.S. government in debt to?" And there you will find, by logical consequence, the Masters of the government, to whom they must bow. This is non-partisan issue. Republicans in particular should see on the graph what Bush did , largely due to the "war on terrorism", which Obama continues, but now adding socialist government spending too.

I run a dual boot as there are still a few things I require from windows but Linux out performs windows in almost every way. It now has a wealth of software to back it up, which was once the major factor in putting potential users off. Microsoft have to face up to the fact that their monopoly is beginning to fall apart and mainly through their own greed and arrogance. A fact highlighted by the success of Firefox and other Mozilla applications. You can get hold of a live CD to try it out if you don't want to jump in feet first just do a web search for Knoppix.
