POPS Veterans Day 2009: Thank you
They are casualties of war… and as far as I’m concerned, Sergeant Kimberly Munley, who took their cowardly attacker down, is a veteran today. The terrorist enemy doesn’t have a formal chain of command that can sign an armistice, they don’t muster on clearly defined battlefields, and they’re quite happy to benefit from the efforts of deranged fanboys. If we don’t stand behind our professional soldiers, and give them the tools to do their jobs now, we will all become soldiers before this enemy is defeated. Somewhere in the world tomorrow, an American soldier will ring in the eleventh hour of the eleventh day with gunfire. Another will arrive home after an honorable tour of duty, perhaps passing brothers and sisters in arms saying farewell to their families. A mother’s tears will fall on a letter from the far side of the world. Old veterans will spend a beautiful afternoon watching children play beneath the flag they raised at Anzio, Guadalcanal, Incheon, or Khe Sanh.

POPSThe Old Vet and His Tank This is so touching: an old WW2 Russian tank army veteran has finally found his own tank on which he passed through all the war standing in small Russian town as a monument and got emotionally shocked that people worried his heart won’t be able to cope with this.

POPSSouth Carolina pardons black brothers convicted of 1913 killing Police initially focused on Mrs Davis and her husband Bart, who were arrested with packed suitcases which included a bloodied pair of trousers. But investigators' attention shifted when Mr Lewis's stolen pistol was traced to John "Monk" Stevenson, a small-time criminal who said he had been given the gun by Bart Davis's brother. He claimed he was only a lookout when Lewis was killed. However, in a plea deal that spared his life, Stevenson – who was also black – changed his story and named the Griffin brothers as the killers and testified against them. According to sworn statements from fellow inmates, Stevenson admitted in jail that the men he implicated knew nothing of the crime. He said that the Griffins "could afford a lawyer and beat the rap". The brothers were the owners of a 138-acre farm, making them probably the wealthiest blacks in the area. All of the land was sold to pay their legal fees and court costs.

POPSLearning of the Battle of Oxford paratroopers from the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions. They had to capture the city quickly; the F.B.I. had intelligence that thousands of Klansmen and segregationists from California to Georgia may have set off for Oxford, many of them armed. The first troops to reach Oxford found over 100 wounded federal marshals at the center of campus, 27 of them hit by civilian gunfire. Packs of hundreds of rioters swarmed the city, some holding war dances around burning vehicles. Snipers opened fire on the Army convoys and bricks struck the heads of American soldiers. Black G.I.'s in one convoy were ambushed by white civilians who tried to decapitate them in their open Jeeps with metal pipes.... ...The Army troops restored order to the school and the city, block by block. A girl watched a team of infantrymen under attack on the Oxford town square and, according to a reporter at the scene, wondered aloud, "When are they going to shoot back?"

POPSLife is bare bones on the Lakota reservation By John King CNN Chief National Correspondent ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "All it is is logs, glue -- dirt and water put together -- then cement and the chicken string," Hale says of his home. "Long as the windows don't break, it's nice and warm in here." The roof leaks a bit, and the floorboards are rotted in one corner, but Hale isn't one to complain. "It's home," he says, almost under his breath, as he invites a visitor to have a look. Firewood is stacked in one corner inside, and more outside as Hale uses the summer months to stockpile for prairie winters, where 20 below zero is not all that uncommon. He also pulls bunches of long weeds in the prairie grass, to dry for use as a firestarter. "I have to be careful," Hale says matter-of-factly as he pulls a few fistfuls. "Sometimes there are some snakes. Rattlesnakes. Nothing to mess around with." ~~~~~~~~~~~ This makes me cry. It is their country!!!!

POPSIn Ranks of Heroes, Finding the Fakes I don't care what it costs. Need database so these scum are caught and exposed as the fakes they are. It is a slap in the face to all of us that have served with pride and earned what awards we have from the battles. I know i can't even buy a cup of coffee with what i have but it is sense of self pride that matters most. And for some person that never even served it is bad enough. Worse are those that have served and know exactly what a slap in the face it is to us. I hope when exposed they are so embarrassed they have to relocate to someplace where people don't know what a fraud they are. And if received any benifits are made to repay twice the amount they scammed. Lower then scum they are in my book. Right up there with pedo's, child molesters, scam artists, and rest of societies dirtbags. Sorry so heated on this but omg it pisses me off.

POPS"Sit! Stay! Snuggle!": An Iraq Vet Finds His Dog Tuesday
Click through for the video. More: Tuesday is with Mr. Montalvan at all hours. Taught to recognize changes in a person's breathing, perspiration or scent that can indicate an imminent panic attack, Tuesday can keep Mr. Montalvan buffered from crowds or deliver a calming nuzzle. Other dogs, typically golden retrievers, Labradors or Labrador retriever blends, are trained to wake masters from debilitating nightmares and to help patients differentiate between hallucinations and reality by barking if a real person is nearby. "Tuesday is just extraordinarily empathetic," said Mr. Montalvan, 36 years old, a retired Army captain who received a Purple Heart for wounds he suffered in Iraq. "In bad moments, he'll lay his head on my leg, and it'll be like he's saying, 'You're OK. You're not alone.'" …At Mr. Montalvan's apartment -- decorated with his Purple Heart and Bronze Star certificates, and pictures and paintings of Tuesday -- they sleep in the same wooden sleigh bed.

POPSNeo-Nazis are in the Army now
Army regulations prohibit soldiers from participating in racist groups, and recruiters are instructed to keep an eye out for suspicious tattoos. Before signing on the dotted line, enlistees are required to explain any tattoos. At a Tampa recruitment office, though, Fogarty sailed right through the signup process. "They just told me to write an explanation of each tattoo, and I made up some stuff, and that was that," he says. Soon he was posted to Fort Stewart in Georgia, where he became part of the 3rd Infantry Division. In 2003, Fogarty was sent to Iraq. For two years he served in the military police, escorting officers, including generals, around the hostile country. He says he was granted top-secret clearance and access to battle plans. Fogarty speaks with regret that he "never had any kill counts." But he says his time in Iraq increased his racist resolve. "I hate Arabs more than anybody, for the simple fact I've served over there and seen how they live," he tells me. "They'r

POPSD-Day veteran not going back to the beaches
First the Vets were being subsidised by the Heroes Return Charity, costs to cover a carer and one immediate family relative. Then a Blackpool Councillor Julian Mineur – sorry folk I ain’t making this up - gets involved and it all turns to doggee poo. The last time I saw Councillor Manure in action was in Rhyl where he was insulting a rather eloquent, distinguished former Women’s Army veteran who promised if that if he called her girlie once more she would smack his face. She was prevented from assaulting him by a former Royal Marine who was only too willing to do the lady’s bidding. The Councillor was trying to sell the Veterans Badge to the veteran and was getting a hostile reception along with the Labour MP for North Wales. It is amazing how these political types do not understand community or service unless it is wrapped in a wonder financial package for themselves. Expenses! Don’t mention expenses! Not only will some of the vets not be going, but Association heads with no affil

POPS"Why Does O'Reilly Hate Our Troops and American Values?" When she very reasonably explained that you can't talk about the Iranian situation without talking about how the US treats it's own captured prisoners, Bill ends up losing it and accusing her -- a 29 year Army veteran -- of hating America. When did serving your country and demanding it abide by the Geneva Conventions become "hating America"? And when did cutting the mic of an Army veteran and accusing her of "hating America" become loving America? Thanks for the civics lesson, Bill. .... SilentPatriot Sunday Apr 01, 2007.

POPSU.S. Military Prepared With Battle Plans For Somalia Pirates: Intelligence Sources WASHINGTON - U.S. military commanders have already prepared battle plans for ending the scourge of piracy on the high seas off Somalia if President Obama pulls the trigger, sources told the Daily News Wednesday. A U.S. intelligence official, though dismissive of the pirates having any terrorism links, said "there is a more intense focus" now on these criminal gangs. America's stealthiest warriors have been involved in combat operations in the Horn of Africa for years - operating from secret bases in Djibouti, Ethiopia, Somalia and Manda Bay, Kenya.

POPSIsrael investigating soldier testimony of war crimes against Palestinians
Another veteran described an officer who ordered machine-gunners to fire at an elderly woman In the testimony, the soldiers admitted that excessive force was used because the lives of Palestinian civilians were valued far less than those of the soldiers. When asked about the revelations, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said that he believed the stories described were an exception, and insisted the Israeli Defense Forces are the "most moral army in the world" Danny Zamir, the chairman of the preparatory school that hosted the seminar, said that the soldiers' testimony showed that the disregard for Palestinian civilians was not an exception. "The new release testimonies raise a grave suspicion that the rules of engagement in the infantry violated the basic principles of the international laws of war," he said. "If the alleged rules of engagement are true, both the officers who gave the order and the soldiers who obeyed them might have committed war crimes."

POPSU.S. Foreign Aid to Israel Illegal due to Israel's WMD The official report of Israel's nuclear weaponry makes it illegal for the U.S. to provide foreign aid to Israel! Note too that Obama recently "ducked" the question from the most veteran reporter in Washington, Helen Thomas (a real journalist). This demonstrates the real fear of the Israeli Lobby by Obama too. Why not uphold the law? Why the deliberate blindness toward Israel? Here is a push-point to challenge and change U.S. foreign policy and cut spending. By law, the U.S. would have to cease providing billions of dollars in foreign aid to Israel if it determined the country had a nuclear weapons program. That's because the so-called Symington Amendment, passed in 1976, bars assistance to countries developing technology for nuclear weapons proliferation.
