POPSBrzezinski, Scowcroft: Obama shouldn't recognize Turkish killings of Armenians as ’genocide.’ ’If Obama uses the word Genocide, the Turkish response will be harsh and trigger a bitter breach in relations,’ the CSIS says --- The true Axis of Evil is forming. US, Turkey, Israel - the Genocide Triad! All we have to do is take down Iran...and we have a nice chunk of Empire to fend of the menacing threat of Russia and China... "The same thing we do every day, Pinky...try to TAKE OVER THE WORLD!"

POPSInitiative to apologize for Armenian "Catastrophe" creates backlash A prosecutor in Ankara announced on January 9 that his office has launched an investigation to see if the apology’s authors had violated Article 301, a vaguely worded law that criminalizes "insulting the Turkish nation." "I neither accept nor support this campaign. We did not commit a crime, therefore we do not need to apologize," Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan told reporters earlier this month. Turkey’s powerful military also condemned the online effort. "We don’t think this is right. It is wrong and will create harmful consequences," Brig. Gen. Metin Gurak, an army spokesman, said at a December briefing.

POPSFisk: "How do holocaust survivors feel about being called Nazis?" continues: Before I state the obvious, I only wish the French Union of Islamic Organisations would call the Armenian genocide a genocide – it doesn't have the courage to do so, does it, because that would be offensive to the Turks and, well, the million and a half Armenians massacred in 1915 happened to be, er, Christians. Mind you, that didn't stop George Bush from dropping the word from his vocabulary lest he, too, should offend the Turkish generals whose airbases America needs for its continuing campaign in Iraq. And even Israel doesn't use the word "genocide" about the Armenians lest it loses its only Muslim ally in the Middle East. Strange, isn't it? When there's a real genocide – of Armenians – we don't like to use the word. But when there is no genocide, everyone wants to get in on the act.tinues (full at source):

POPSForget Memory Laws "The historian's equivalent of a natural scientist's experiment is to test the evidence against all possible hypotheses, however extreme, and then submit his most convincing interpretation for criticism by professional colleagues and for public debate. This is how we get as near as one ever can to truth about the past. How, for example, do you refute the absurd conspiracy theory, which apparently still has some currency in parts of the Arab world, that "the Jews" were behind 9/11? By forbidding anyone from saying that, on pain of imprisonment? No. You refute it by refuting it. By mustering all the available evidence, in free and open debate. This is not just the best way to get at the facts; ultimately, it's the best way to combat racism and xenophobia too."

POPSWhy in Turkey they don't want Obama's presidency article contains one factual mistake--Armenians commemorate Genocide on April 24, and not April 16. For some additional info on why Armenians support Barack Obama and Joe Biden visit www.armenianamericansforobama.com

POPSSupport Obama-Biden ticket Here's the website of Armenian-American committee supporting Obama-Biden ticket. They make a compelling case for Armenian Americans to support Obama, as it is tantamount to supporting US-Armenia relations, whereas McCain is generally silent on US-Armenian relations and issues.

POPSWorld Opinion is Worthless "The moment one recognizes "world opinion" for what it is — a statement of moral cowardice, one is longer enthralled by the term. That "world opinion" at this moment allegedly loathes America and Israel is a badge of honor to be worn proudly by those countries. It is when "world opinion" and its news media start liking you that you should wonder if you've lost your way. "

POPSTurkey's Hatred of Free Speech Until recently, Turkey banned public usage (eduaction, broadcasting etc) of Kurdish language. Kurds make up a fifth of population. There is a strong strand of nationalism which seeks to reframe the Armenian holocaust as the fault of the Armenians. Turkey is seeking membership of the european union.

POPSBush Guilty of Holoacuast Denial When anyone questions the Holocaust perpetrated by the Nazis against the Jews during World War II they are rightfully scorned. But now, the same people who would join in such scorning are being blackmailed by the Turkish government into denying the first holocaust of Armenians that set the stage for the Jewish Holocaust. Why is is NOT ok to question or deny the genocide taken against Europe's Jews, but perfectly acceptable to deny the Armenian holocaust in which over 1 1/2 million innocent people died? We as a country should be ashamed, as should Britain and any other country that is going along with this political blackmail by the Turks.

POPSThe TurkGenocide Influenced Who&What ? --<< "Eyewitness accounts are even more graphic. Foreign diplomats posted in the Ottoman Empire at the time told of the atrocities, but were powerless to act. One described the concentration camps, saying: "As on the gates of Dante's Hell, the following should be written at the entrance of these accursed encampments: 'You who enter, leave all hopes.'" So how exactly did the events of 1915-17 unfold? Just as Hitler wanted a Nazi-dominated world that would be Judenrein - cleansed of its Jews - so in 1914 the Ottoman Empire wanted to construct a Muslim empire that would stretch from Istanbul to Manchuria. Armenia, an ancient Christian civilisation spreading out from the eastern end of the Black Sea, stood in its way. A prominent Turkish writer at the time described the war as "the awaited day" when the Turks would exact "revenge, the horrors of which have not yet been recorded in history". >>--
