POPSBeijing's Space Age Olympic Stadiums These are the spectacular arenas that will host thousands of spectators and athletes in the Beijing Olympics next month. It is clear that the Chinese organisers have spared no expense - and hired some of the world's leading architects - to ensure their venues are of the highest standard. A total of 10,500 athletes and seven million spectators are expected to arrive in the city when the Games begin on August 8. The arenas - which for two weeks will be the focus of worldwide attention - have set a stunning precedent for the organisers of London's 2012 Olympics. Many of the buildings use recycled rainwater in their air-conditioning systems or have specially insulated walls to ensure they stay cool in the sun.

POPSThe Golden Rule and the Separation of Church and State by Rev. Michael Helms, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church in Moultrie, Georgia. In Franklin County, Idaho, the Mormon population is 91.5 percent. In Utah County, Utah, it is 88.1 percent. If your job transferred you to one of these counties and you sent your child to a public school, would you object if the teacher began class by reading from the Book of Mormon each day? Well, obviously not if you are Mormon. If you are of any other religion or none at all, chances are good you would object.

POPSDemocrats And Gasoline that they must have some gall to criticize creationism when they in fact subscribe to its economic equivalent. But as I wrote last week, I don't really think they are this ignorant. They're providing a rhetorical distraction to the fact that they want high gas prices, probably higher ones than we have right now. Meanwhile, in order to deflect and even harness consumer anger in the political arena, they can send out Chuck Schumer to put on this dog-and-pony show about the phantoms that are secretly directing the economy from behind closed doors. It's a smokescreen. As an energy consumer, you should be a lot more concerned about what Democrats are doing in the open Senate chamber. The gas crisis finally hit Capitol Hill with full fury this week, and Senate Democrats have launched a plan that sounds ambitious: Take on Wall Street speculators, OPEC, price gougers and Big Oil. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0408/9967.html

POPSMapping Infectious Diseases - Realtime on the Web Some see HealthMap's wide net as an advantage. "I think this is the future direction of infectious-disease epidemiology," says Durland Fish, an epidemiologist at Yale School of Public Health, in New Haven, CT, who has previously worked with Brownstein. "This goes beyond traditional human case reporting, which we've done in the past," he says. For example, the software may pick up reports from scientists working outside the public-health arena, perhaps identifying a new animal virus with the potential to jump to humans. That could conceivably give public-health officials the power to intervene before an outbreak. "We would be able to identify where this virus is likely to emerge in humans," says Fish. "Once we get the first human case, we would know the virus has made the jump. That's presumably what happened with SARS."

POPSAdmiral Mullen is Wrong There are some soldiers that are adamantly against an activist foreign policy. They are individuals that would share the philosophy in this regard with Patrick Buchanan. Foreign policy is an area that falls completely within the purview of the Executive Branch. It would be completely inappropriate for a soldier to "campaign" for one of the candidates because that candidate is less interventionist or more interventionist. No we get to the "elephant in the living room." I am a senior Officer in the United States Army who has attended the senior service colleges. I have served in a multitude of command, instructor and staff positions over two decades.

POPSUsing Causality to Solve the Puzzle of Quantum Spacetime Space time fabric at the tiniest scale is fractal and with variable dimensionality. The interesting thing here is that the very fundamental aspects of reality are described as mathematical entities, and do not possess any intrinsic properties besides causation as an organizing principle. This is where physics and metaphysics meet....
