The Balfour Declaration and the Mandate Under the League of Nations
merrie
by merrie  Yesterday 2:00 AM    1
........ The Jewish Connection To The Land ...... We consider Palestine as part of Arab Syria, as it has never been separated from it at any time. We are connected with it by national, religious, linguistic, natural, economic, and geographical bonds." The purpose of post-World War I's League of Nations was to prepare those liberated from the Turks for independence. Once the indigenous populations demonstrated their ability to assume control, the mandates given to the war's victorious superpowers were supposed to be self-terminating. For the international community, justice for the Arabs meant guaranteeing their economic, civil, and religious rights. Awarding the Arabs any form of self-government within Palestine was precluded by British commitments to the Jews under the Balfour Declaration, which had been incorporated in the mandate of the League of Nations.

From criminal, to terrorist, to killer, to Prime Minister, to Nobel Peace Prize winner, yes it had to be a Zionist. Menachem Begin was commander of the Irgun terrorist gang then more infamous and feared than today's al Qaeda . Begin wrote in his memoirs, The Revolt: " History and experience taught us that if we are able to destroy the prestige of the British in Palestine, the regime will break. Since we found the enslaving government's weak point, we did not let go of it. " Words that could be about the USA instead of the Brits by al Qaeda and not the Prime Minister of Israel. Any Arab terrorists have a long long way to go in the terrorist league to catch the Zionists.

Al-Sadr Embarasses US
DanaGarrett
by DanaGarrett  5-29-2008
What's Wrong this Picture? The Bush administration negotiates this deal behind closed door, only publicly refers to its terms during the negotiation in "vague" terms, and tells the elected members of Congress it's not their affair and he doesn't need their approval. Yet here is an Iraq Islamic cleric calling for a referendum on the agreement, public protests against it, a media drive opposing it and, if need be, a petition drive to give the people of Iraq a voice on the agreement. How embarrassing for us in the United States. This Islamic theocrat is actually more democratic and transparent than George Bush. If Al Sadr has his way, the Iraqi people will have more say on the US occupation of Iraq than we will. And we liberated them to be like us? LOL!!!

The Curse of Arabia - No Democracy in the Arab World
Johanna_G
by Johanna_G  5-6-2008

Senior Saudi Prince Offers Israel "Peace Vision"
merrie
by merrie  1-21-2008
He said Israel could expect some benefits on the way to signing a treaty and making a full withdrawal, noting that after the 1993 Oslo interim accords with the Palestine Liberation Organisation, regional cooperation had begun and the Jewish state had achieved representation in several Arab states. Israel was wary of the Arab League plan partly because it would entail handing back the Syrian Golan Heights captured in the 1967 Middle East war, as well as re-dividing Jerusalem, of which Israel annexed the captured Arab eastern part in 1967.

U.S./Bush ignoring crisis of displaced Iraqis
BobbyRutan
by BobbyRutan  11-14-2007    3
More: The report is critical of the U.S. inability to make good on its promises. Despite talk of allowing 7,000 Iraqi refugees into the U.S. this year, only 1,608 had been admitted by the end of September, 450 entered in October. By comparison, the U.S. government has resettled nearly three times that many Iranians this year — 5,481 With one Cairo-based coordinator handling cases for 15 countries, the U.S. lacks the human resources to keep up with thousands of referrals that continue to pile up from the United Nations' refugee agency, according to Refugees International. Officials at the Arab League, representing 22 nations, said Americans had never approached them about Iraqi refugees. Countries such as Lebanon, Jordan and Egypt — all American allies — receive little or no assistance from the U.S. and have begun refusing to admit Iraqis Meanwhile, the report continues, the U.S. is reluctant to recognize that its longtime foe Syria stands alone in its open-door policy for I

Arab Public School opens in NY
axelsenzon
by axelsenzon  8-7-2007    4
say what you like, this is actually clearly unconstitutional- separation of church and state. i dont understand the why their getting special treatment and why tax-payers in brooklyn are willing to pay for this and why bloomberg would let this go down the way it did. there are plenty, PLENTY of christion faith schools, and hebrew schools in new york...but not one of them is a public school, they're all private. no tax paying based schools for any other religion- bottom line. this bothers me as it should bother others, and all those non faith believers like myself who critique the radical christain position on social issues....just remember christians are out of the dark and middle ages- islamists seem to be moving closer to those days, at least over the past 25 years.

NEEDED: A JUST SOLUTION TO THE PALESTINIAN REFUGEE PROBLEM
snowdancer76
by snowdancer76  3-29-2007
Yes, many displaced Palestinians are happy where they are now. They are mostly the Palestinians who were wealthy enough in 1948 and 1967 to evacuate from Palestine to other countries like Syria, Lebanon and Jordon. But, there are still tens of thousands of poor Palestinians who could not afford to leave Palestine and who are still living in squaller in the East Bank of Jeruselem and the Gaza Strip. Their conditions must be improved and others still living in the dessert must be allowed to return in order for this Israeli-Palestinian conflict to ever be resolved or is our country and Israel just waiting for them to starve to death? Of course some Arabs have given up on returning to their homeland much like our American Indians have given up on ever getting their lands back. At least we here in America are taking care of the Native Americans and they are not left to starve though. But Israel is not helping these people and is continuing to blockade food to them and so is the U.S.

Who Will Save His Sorry Butt or Let Him Hang?
bookchick49
by bookchick49  12-28-2006    7
I'm having a hard time understanding what all the fuss is about. First, I feel that it will only get worse in Iraq once Sadam is gone, but this isn't saying that I disagree with the penalty. Second, we all know who will be blamed for his death. Third, I feel that after many (if not most) of his attorneys and a few judges were slaughtered by Sadam's followers, this surviving attorney may be calling this plea in an attempt to save his own life, after all is said and done. You know, as in proof of "I did everything I could to save his sorry butt, so don't kill me too." Lastly, if Sadam is saved by the bell, who pays to keep him alive in prison and where does he live out his sentence? If it's coming from my hard earned dollars, then hang him. If it's coming out of the pockets of decent hard working Iraqi's then they have some decisions to make. I only hope they make the right one.

Iraq: Deeper U.S. Involvement
kmcolo
by kmcolo  12-16-2006    3
In some ways I agree with Bush. If we don't come up with some plan to handle the mess he made in Iraq the remnants of that broken nation state will come back to haunt us. Big time. But unfortunately I feel that Bush is out of his league and hasn't clue what he is doing. Securing Iraq will take a lot more troops, a lot more than the 40,000 the president is thinking about. To that end we need to share the burden and relieve the stress on those that already serve by requiring the service of all able bodied people. If the future security of the U.S. is dependent on a secure Iraq and secure Middle East then we need sacrifice form everyone. We need the draft. We also need to raise taxes to pay for the war. What we don't need are young people largely form the lower socioeconomic classes baring the burden of the war while the SUV class buy plasma TVs made in China with their tax refund and the CEO class buy second homes in Switzerland with theirs. This is surely a recipe for disaste

Haaretz: Lebanon "failure" puts strain on US-Israel alliance
Kore7
by Kore7  8-11-2006
Rivkin and Casey rightly worry about Israel's privileged ally status to the US after failing to decisively defeat Hezbollah, espeically in light of the predicted return of some Democratic control in Washington. "Israel must win," they half-heartedly write, but with the UN cease-fire draft up for vote later today , they must know the time for "winning" is almost up. All that is left will be the inevitable post-war spin from both sides...and preparing for the next round of the Neverending War.
