swine flu Aspirin kills 400% more people than H1N1 swine flu
The Infowarrior
by The Infowarrior  11-22-2009    2
"Nearly 100,000 Americans die every year from adverse reactions to FDA-approved prescription drugs. That's twenty-five times the number of people killed by H1N1 swine flu (even if you believe the CDC's numbers)." "Understanding risk According to death statistics tables available on the 'net, you are ten times more likely to die in a car accident this year than be killed by swine flu." "So for every person the CDC claims was killed by H1N1 swine flu this year, common painkillers like aspirin have killed four! Yet you don't see the CDC, FDA, WHO or mainstream media running around screaming about the extreme dangers of aspirin, do you? All those deaths apparently don't matter. Only swine flu deaths lead to hysteria." full article at source.

Tea---------- The caffeine content in tea is useful for stimulating alertness, mood and motivation, but is also a rich source of the antioxidant called catechins. Studies suggest that catechins protect the artery walls against the damage that causes heart disease and prevents formation of blood clots. Red Wine or grape juice------------ Grapes provide vitamin C, vitamin B1 and vitamin B6–red grapes also contain powerful phytochemicals that may help decrease risk of cardiovascular disease. . Resveratrol, a polyphenolic stilbene found in the skins of red fruits including grapes has been shown to have anti-oxidant, anticancer, and anti-inflammatory activity.

An Aspirin A Day Keep the Doctor Away, Doesn’t It?
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  9-13-2009    5
The idea of preventing coronary artery disease, the forerunner of heart attacks (myocardial infarction, or MI) is well founded. Treating high blood pressure, lowering raised cholesterol levels, losing weight, exercising, and stopping smoking are all effective ways of lowering your chances of having an MI. Aspirin has both anti-platelet and anti-inflammatory effects, both useful properties when it comes to reducing the likelihood of coronary thrombosis, or clotting. Almost all studies have shown an increased risk of hemorrhage with aspirin use. One baby aspirin (81 mg) a day, taken with food, is enough. There's no advantage in taking higher doses for this particular use, and you may well increase the chance of side effects. Go to the article for more details of pros and cons.

WomanInTheMoon11
by WomanInTheMoon11  8-15-2009
from an Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center article: Scientific Name Aloe barbadensis, Aloe capensis Common Name Aloe gel, aloe leaf Clinical Summary Aloe vera is a tropical plant used in traditional medicine throughout the world. It has been studied for its ability to relieve constipation, treat burns, heal wounds, treat psoriasis, frostbite, ulcerative colitis and diabetes. Recent studies suggest that some components of aloe, such as acemannan, aloeride, and di(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP) may have immunomodulating and anticancer effects. Emodin, an extract of aloe vera, inhibited cell proliferation and induced apoptosis in human liver cancer cell lines through p53- and p21-dependent pathways. Aloe is also thought to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Concurrent administration of aloe with chemotherapy was reported to benefit patients with metastatic cancers. More research is needed. Data on external use of aloe products to alleviate radiation-induced s

Food of the week: Olives
kkcapricorn
by kkcapricorn  8-3-2009    5
Tips for Preparing Olives: To pit olives, press them with the flat side of a broad bladed knife. This will help break the flesh so that you can easily remove the pit with your fingers or the knife. The brine in which olives are packed can be used as a replacement for salted water in recipes. Toss pasta with chopped olives, tomatoes, garlic, olive oil and fresh herbs of your choice. Marinate olives in olive oil, lemon zest, coriander seeds and cumin seeds.
