How do school bullies know that they bully?
245WWhrd
by 245WWhrd  8-10-2009
Also ignored by researchers, bullying behavior does not happen in a vaccum - schools in which young people bully other young people is a school where adults bully other adults, and young people bully adults, and adults bully young people, too. This study helps explain why all forms of bullying by all sorts of school community members is routinely ignored and not recognized.

Bullying in Aust schools among worst in world: survey
tabsey
by tabsey  12-13-2008    2
As a teacher, I dealt with this on a daily basis. The worst aspect was showing some parents that it was wrong, and them understanding the bigger picture, where there is little peace and harmony, and even some learning can happen (I laugh at those words). The whole education system here is living in the 19th century.

This story just made my day. Its kids like these two young men (and those who rallied to the cause) that make me second guess my assumption that kids these days are all little shits. Good for them!

The Kids Are Alright. Aren't They?
TerranceDC
by TerranceDC  11-16-2006    2
On the one hand I'm glad there's a conference like this for gay youth to talk about their experiences with bullying and harassment in school. On the other I'm frustrated that there's still a need for a conference like this. Maybe that's because of what I went through growing up as a skinny, effeminate, nonathletic, black gay boy in the south, in the 80s, during the Reagan era. (Yeah.I might still have a few scars from that.) But what's truly disturbing are the people who says that an anti-bullying conference "affirms" the "gay lifestyle," and particularly the woman who said "There's something called therapy. A person can change if they want to, and they should be encouraged to change if they can." And if they can't or won't? Do they deserved to be harassed? Well, I remember NARTH suggested that it might do them some good.
