POPSMcCain gaffes pile up; critics pile on McCain's mistakes raise a serious, if uncomfortable question: Are the gaffes the result of his age? And what could that mean in the Oval Office? Voters, thinking about their own relatives, can be expected to scrutinize McCain’s debate performances for signs of slippage

POPSBan on Lead Bullets Will Help Save the California Condor Beginning July 1, lead ammunition will be banned throughout a wide swath of California to further protect the endangered California condor. While some hunters may not be pleased, few people are happier than Assemblyman Pedro Nava, who first introduced the ban, known as the Ridley-Tree Condor Preservation Act, in 2005.

POPSFrom Masseur to $300 million Arms Dealer? Only in ... "How did a company run by a 21-year-old president and a 25-year-old former masseur get a sensitive $300 million contract to supply ammunition to Afghan forces?" asks the chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee on Tuesday Representative Henry A. Waxman, Democrat of California.

POPSCongress Holds Troops Hostage, Budget Director Says AND when the President vetoes this bill, who will get blamed for not supporting the troops? Congress, again, shows their utter contempt for the American process, it's military, our tax dollars, the intelligence of it's citizens. Blackmail, pure and simple. If Congress does not want America troops in Iraq then take the stand, vote, and deal with the consequences. But they won't because they KNOW it is not in our national interests to do so; but they will play politics with every ounce of treachery they can muster against this Administration, our military personnel, and the responsible use of OUR money.

POPSRocket Theft Soldier Gets 10 Years "He decided to sell the rocket launchers instead of taking them to sea and dumping them," Judge Williams said. The fact that Della-Vedova had not believed the weapons would end up in the hands of terrorists was "wholly unbelievable, given that the world was still reeling from 9/11 terrorism", he said. Judge Williams also rejected the now-former captain's claim that Harrington had wanted the rockets as a "trophy", adding that while there was no evidence a substantial sum had been paid, he did not believe all 10 weapons were sold for $5000. "I also find it extraordinarily difficult to believe that Mr Della-Vedova wouldn't have had well in mind that these weapons ... were more likely to be used for some criminal, terrorist-type activity," Judge Williams told the court.

POPSMark Steyn: Guns And God? Hell, Yes
Europeans did "vote for their own best interests" – i.e., cradle-to-grave welfare, 35-hour workweeks, six weeks of paid vacation, etc. – and as a result they now face a perfect storm of unsustainable entitlements, economic stagnation and declining human capital that's left them so demographically beholden to unassimilable levels of immigration that they're being remorselessly Islamized with every passing day. We should thank God (forgive the expression) that America's loser gun nuts don't share the same sophisticated rational calculation of "their best interests" as do Thomas Frank, Obama, too many Democrats and the European political establishment. God and guns. Maybe one day a viable society will find a magic cure-all that can do without both, but Big Government isn't it. Complacent liberal Democrats ought to be able to look across the ocean and see that. Obama did give the speech in San Francisco, a city demographically declining at a rate that qualifies it for EU membership

POPSDeadly cargo for Zimbabwe “The level of violence is going to be shocking,” said a senior army officer. “It is going to be a wave that will keep Tsvangirai’s supporters indoors or displaced. It is meant to ensure that only supporters of Mugabe will dare come out in large numbers to vote in the run-off election,” the source added.
