POPSgrowing the new branch of government
At least the New York Times actually reported Holder's Congressional thumping. Pay ACORN, the defiant DOJ hack admonishes. Now DOJ has authority over Congress. Representatives Wolf and Smith have sent numerous requests to Holder asking for documentation of his Black Panther dismissal. Rep. Issa has demanded an explanation of Kevin Johnson's predatory sexual behaviors with underage Americorp students, not to mention his squandering of $400,000 on personal expenses like chauffeuring and dry cleaning. Jennifer Rubin's latest Weekly Standard report details the US Civil Rights Commission investigation into the Black Panther dismissal. Yup. You guessed it. No response from Holder or the DOJ. Finally, the White House czars have been reported in the alternative media, and given the obligatory nod in the msm. However, Breitbart's expose on the National Endowment for the Arts has been politely ignored. So expect to see those armies of taxpayer funded artists creating propaganda whene

POPSTaxpayer Funded Serve.gov Filtering Activists to ACORN
The Obama Administration has placed a large premium on what it calls “national service.” It has launched a website, www.Serve.gov, that is reported to act as a clearing house for Americans eager to “give back” to their communities. Unfortunately, Americans looking for an opportunity to volunteer may get something they weren’t expecting. By typing “ACORN” into the search field entitled “What interests you” at Serve.gov, you’re transported to allforgood.org where you can choose from a list of volunteer opportunities, including “healthcare activist.” So after they assist you in procuring housing for your brothel of underage girls, ACORN can also assist you in skirting your taxes, in keeping with the law of probability. Serve.gov is just one of many projects managed by the Corporation for National and Community Service, a federal agency which oversees various government service agencies, including Americorps, the outfit at the center of the . . .

POPSNYC 'Civic Corps' Gets a Start with 193 Members NYC 'Civic Corps' gets a start with 193 members by Associated Press Thursday July 30, 2009, 7:15 PM Nearly 200 federally funded volunteer coordinators will soon start work recruiting people to help dozens of New York City community service organizations. Mayor Michael Bloomberg helped swear in the 193 members of the NYC Civic Corps' first class Thursday. He was joined by Nicola Goren, the acting CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service. The corporation is the federal agency that runs AmeriCorps VISTA, which is providing the NYC Civic Corps members. They'll work full-time for a modest living allowance, health benefits and education grants. They'll help 57 nonprofit groups find more volunteers and deploy them strategically.

POPSThe End Game of the Left Part II just as well-funded (as the military)" doesn't scare you, does it? Read the following transcript from the testimony of Larry Grathwohl, an FBI informant who infiltrated a 1970 meeting conducted by Obama's close friend (and probable ghost-writer) William Ayers and included the leadership of the socialist Weather Underground. I brought up the subject of what's going to happen after we take over the government. You know, we become responsible for administrating, you know, 250 million people. And there was no answer. No one had given any thought to economics. How are you going to clothe and feed these people? The only thing that I could get was that they expected that the Cubans, the North Vietnamese, the Chinese and the Russians would all want to occupy different portions of the United States. They also believed that their immediate responsibility would be to protect against what they called the counter-revolution.

POPSA Brief History of White House Thuggery
"Keep up the heat" translated into Organizing for America/Democratic National Committee attack ads on moderate Democrats who have revolted against Obamacare's high costs and expansive government powers over medical decisions. Looks like there won't be a health care beer summit anytime soon. The CBO and the Blue Dogs got off easy compared to inspectors general targeted by Team Obama goons. Former AmeriCorps inspector general Gerald Walpin was slimed as mentally incompetent ("confused" and "disoriented") after blowing the whistle on several cases of community service tax fraud, including the case of Obama crony Kevin Johnson. Johnson is the NBA star turned Sacramento mayor who ran a federally funded nonprofit group employing AmeriCorps volunteers, who were exploited to perform campaign work for Johnson and to provide personal services (car washes, errands) to Johnson and his staff. Walpin filed suit last week to get his job back -- and to defend the integrity and independence

POPSObama's Civilian National Security Force No wonder Obama fired Inspector General Walpin who uncovered the misuse of taxpayer funds by Americorps... public outrage over wasted taxpayer money could ruin his grand plan. No wonder he gave Walpin 1 hour to resign or be fired after Walpin threatened to reopen the investigation and (possibly) go public with it.

POPSInspector General firing - emails deleated etc. The Corporation also stood to receive vast amounts of new funding from the $5.7 billion Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, which would triple the size of AmeriCorps. And in the midst of that, here was the agency's inspector general saying he might re-open an investigation into an embarrassing episode involving hundreds of thousands of mis-spent dollars and a politically prominent supporter of the president. But there is no doubt that, whatever the other reasons, the board feared that a revival of a scandal they thought was in the past would be embarrassing to the newly-prominent AmeriCorps. For more background on the Walpin firing, see here and here and here and here. -Byron York

POPSWhite House Scandal Might Have Real Legs Now here is where the story gets really interesting. On the very same day that the president fired Mr. Walpin, St. Hope's executive director, Rick Maya, left his job at St. Hope. He did not go quietly. His resignation letter charged Mr. Johnson and several St. Hope board members with numerous ethical violations. Most explosively, he charged that a board member improperly deleted e-mails of Mr. Johnson's that already were under a federal subpoena. Suddenly, the problems at St. Hope begin to look as severe as Mr. Walpin had charged rather than being minor infractions. On Wednesday, the Sacramento Bee reported that Mr. Maya's allegations have been deemed serious enough that the FBI is investigating potential obstruction of justice at St. Hope. In that light, the firing of Mr. Walpin, who properly blew the whistle on mismanagement and possible corruption, looks ill-considered.

POPSAn Obama "scandal" as phony as Whitewater
Full piece details why: -There is no scandal because the settlement against Johnson was made public months ago and the US Attorney filed no charges -Walpin is a far rightwingnut partisan who was charged with ethical violation over his involvement w/ Johnson: The U.S. attorney said that Walpin had "overstepped his authority by electing to provide my office with selective information and withholding other potentially significant information at the expense of determining the truth" -- in other words, Walpin had failed to provide substantive exculpatory facts to the U.S. attorney, while trying to push the government into opening a criminal probe of Johnson... Brown noted that Walpin had sought publicity for his findings against Johnson... before discussing them with the U.S. Atty's Office, "hindering our investigation"... served at the pleasure of the president, who may well have taken some pleasure in ousting him -- and need make no apology if he did.

POPSBrewing Scandal Smells Like Beltway Cronyism
The second program Walpin challenged is the nonprofit St. HOPE Academy, run by Obama supporter Kevin Johnson, the Democratic mayor of Sacramento and a former NBA basketball star. In a special May 2009 report, Walpin's office blew the whistle on a highly politicized U.S. attorney's office settlement with Johnson and his deputy, Dana Gonzalez. The pair exploited nearly $900,000 in AmeriCorps funding for personal and political gain. Based on Walpin's investigation last year, CNCS suspended their access to federal funds after determining that they were: -- Using AmeriCorps members to "recruit students for St. HOPE Academy"; -- Using AmeriCorps members for political activities in connection with the "Sacramento board of education election"; -- Assigning grant-funded AmeriCorps members to perform services "personally benefiting ... Johnson," such as "driving (him) to personal appointments, washing (his) car and running personal errands"; and -- Improperly using AmeriCorps . . .

POPSGerald Walpin speaks: The inside story of the AmeriCorps firing The Inspector General is supposed to be a watchdog for the Tax payers. Why is Obama firing him? I thought Obama wanted to find waste in gov't and eliminate it. I thought Obama wanted transparency. Nice to know that with Billions of taxpayer money that the Taxpayers watchdogs are being neutered or eliminated.

POPSThe White House Fires a Watchdog
to pad staff salaries, meddle politically in a school-board election, and have AmeriCorps members perform personal services for Mr. Johnson, including washing his car. The curious case of the inspector general and a Presidential ally . . . . . . At the end of May, Mr. Walpin's office recommended that Mr. Johnson, an assistant and St. HOPE itself be "suspended" from receiving federal funds. The Corporation's official charged with suspensions agreed, and in September the suspension letters went out. Mr. Walpin's office also sent a civil and/or criminal referral to the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of California. So far, so normal. But that all changed last fall, when Mr. Johnson was elected mayor of Sacramento. News of the suspension had become public, and President Obama began to discuss his federal stimulus spending. A city-hired attorney pronounced in March that Sacramento might be barred from receiving stimulus funds because of Mr. Johnson's suspension.

POPSMore Chicago-Style Politics in the White House Shades of Richard Nixon, Byron York has dug into Barack Obama firing of AmeriCorps Gerald Walpin. It seems that Walpin had the audacity to investigate Obama’s political supporter, and hack, Kevin Johnson. from Washington Times: The AmeriCorps IG accuses prominent Obama supporter of misusing AmeriCorps grant money. Prominent Obama supporter has to pay back more than $400,000 of that grant money. Obama fires AmeriCorps IG. Chicago Thug Fires Inspector General Note that Johnson is black. POPSObama Broke Law Firing AmeriCorps IG The text of Grassley’s letter to the President: Dear Mr. President: I was troubled to learn that last night your staff reportedly issued an ultimatim to the Americorps Inspector General Gerald Walpin that he had one hour to resign or be terminated. As you know, Inspectors General were created by Congress as a means to combat waste, fraud, and abuse and to be independent watchdogs ensuring that federal agencies were held accountable for their actions. Inspectors General were designed to have a dual role reporting to both the President and Congress so that they would be free from undue political pressure. This independence is the hallmark of all Inspectors General and is essential so they may operate independently, without political pressure or interference from agencies attempting to keep their failings from public scrutiny.

POPSRepublican Re-Education Camps? MN Representative Michelle Bachmann (Schlockmann?) went ballistic and called AmeriCorps a system of "re-education" camps". It turns out that Rush and his GOP butt-kissers are the ones actually talking about "re-education". Those will be the placces where the staff uniforms include flip-flops. You have to give Cantor credit for having a spine more flexible than a cat's. Back in 1960, people were worried that a Democratic win would mean a White House controlled by the Vatican. It would seem that the Republicans are being controlled from a radio studio in Palm Beach Florida.

POPSObama, Clinton, Kennedy Issue New Call to Serve With this "call", maybe Obama is putting out feelers to see if he will succeed in launching that other program. You know, the Civilian Security Force of which he said will be "just as powerful, just as well-funded, as our military".

POPSUS Congress Paves Way for Americans to Help Those in Need <<<With the nation plunging deeper into a recession, Obama and backers of the effort see it as a way to channel a rising desire among Americans to help their neighbors. ''History has ... shown that in time of crisis, Americans turn to service and volunteering for healing, for rebuilding and for hope. The spirit of generosity in the American people is one of the greatest assets of our nation,'' Rep. George Miller, D-Calif., chairman of the House Education and Labor Committee, said during debate on the bill.>>>

POPSObama's Youth: Hope, Change And Snappy Uniforms 50 hours a year. 100 hours for college students, provided their type of service is deemed acceptable by a sprawling new Federal bureaucracy. Oh, and Obama's going to double the size of the Peace Corps while quadrupling AmeriCorps. I'm curious if anyone will be left to fill all the newly vacated private sector jobs. St. Barack concluded his speech with this gem: "Loving your country must mean accepting your responsibility to do your part to change it." But what if I love my country the way it is? Throwing more kerosene on the mob's torches, Obama is moving his nomination acceptance speech to Denver's 75,000-seat outdoor stadium. And is thinking about a speech at Berlin's Brandenburg Gate. Odd that he didn't choose Nuremberg. We've talked a lot about Liberal Fascism. Apparently, it wasn't a moment too soon. UPDATE: A Lizard invasion? Thanks for the LGF link, Charles!

POPSObama's Civilian National Security Force How is it possible their candidate is seeking to create some kind of massive but secret national police force that will be even bigger than the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force put together? Now, maybe he was misquoted by the Congressional Quarterly and the Chicago Tribune. I guess it's possible. If so, you would think he would want to set the record straight. Maybe he misspoke. That has certainly happened before. Again, why wouldn't the rest of my colleagues show some curiosity about such a major and, frankly, bone-chilling proposition? Are we talking about creating a police state here? The U.S. Army alone has nearly 500,000 troops. That doesn't count reserves or National Guard. In 2007, the U.S. Defense budget was $439 billion. Is Obama serious about creating some kind of domestic security force bigger and more expensive than that? If not, why did he say it? What did he mean?
