POPSRunning the Numbers – An American Self-Portrait There’s more on the site. The first three photos show 2 million plastic beverage bottles, the number used in the US every five minutes. The second three photos depicts 32,000 Barbies, equal to the number of elective breast augmentation surgeries performed monthly in the US in 2006. The visualization of our consumption is much more impactful than numbers that many of us simply cannot comprehend. We are extracting raw materials from the earth at an increasing rate every day and returning it back to the earth, via landfills and the side of the road, in a form that cannot be re-used by the planet. We can re-use it if it would only re-cycle it properly. But how many of us actually follow through on re-cycling? Again, mere numbers don’t have the impact to get people to do it. Maybe these images will be helpful.

POPSRecycle Aluminum Cans - Aluminum Underwear 2 Designer Ingrid Goldbloom Bloch found a great way to recycle aluminum cans by transforming them into aluminum underwear. Appreciate the art but you wouldn’t catch me dead wearing a Coke-can-made pair of undies.

POPSSoda-Club Penguin – homemade sodas & seltzer on your countertop We're trying to move away from disposable/recyclable products and toward reusable ones, so this countertop soda & seltzer maker sounds great. (Less thrilled that all the soda mixes include Splenda, but there are other mix-ins one could use, I'm sure. I already have a good recipe for a zingy homemade ginger ale syrup, for starters.)

POPSWas the FDA Report on 'Bisphenol A' Ghostwritten? Buried deep in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article is a very interesting factoid: "Bisphenol A was developed in 1891 as a synthetic estrogen. It came into widespread use in the 1950s when scientists realized it could be used to make polycarbonate plastic and some epoxy resins to line food and beverage cans." About 5-10 million people were exposed to the synthetic estrogen DES between 1938-1971, and the health of so-called "DES Daughters" is still being followed due to their increased risk for vaginal and cervical cancer, reproductive tract structural differences, pregnancy complications, and infertility.

POPSThe "Steve Sleeve" for MacBook Air Brilliant...absolutely brilliant. I think Timbuk2 is the equivalent of Apple in their industry (bags/luggage). I've been a T2 fan for years. Always innovating, they make killer product that is both highly functional and artfully designed. Like Apple, they have a very loyal consumer base and - like this new product illustrates - they are savvy marketers. Damn, i wish i thought of this!
