POPSWheat stubble could power a greener future When considering alternate energy sources, all stages of the process needs to be taken into account. To translate energy from one media to another, energy needs to be used to allow the conversion. Very often however, rather than direct input a catalyst can be used, to both streamline the conversion, or use a form of energy such as solar, or latent chemical energy. via a catalytic converter, or an organic process. Photosynthesis, and Yeast, metabolism, are examples that involve both. Some of the best catalysts are Enzymes, chemical 'messengers' which can co-ordinate the operation of proteins which are used like an organic 'toolkit'

POPSPervasive games The IPerG researchers’ experimental pervasive games range, for example, from Insectopia, a kind of treasure hunt in which participants roam around a city collecting virtual insects from Bluetooth devices, to Epidemic Menace, a whodunit in which players try to stop a scientist from spreading a virtual virus in a real-world setting.

POPSPropane Viable Alternate Fuel Option for School Districts I would love to be able to take my 20 lb propane tank off my grill and put it on back of the lawn tractor to mow the lawn and then take it into the house to cook dinner and afterward attach to the vehicle in the garage and drive to the walmart for a refill. And to think it would be actually MADE IN AMERICA! What a concept!

POPSNow Obama's For "Limited" Offshore Oil Drilling "If, in order to get that passed, we have to compromise in terms of a careful, well thought-out drilling strategy that was carefully circumscribed to avoid significant environmental damage — I don't want to be so rigid that we can't get something done." In Congress, both parties have fought bitterly over energy policy for weeks, with Republicans pressing for more domestic oil drilling and Democrats railing about oil company profits. Despite hundreds of hours of House and Senate floor debate, lawmakers will leave Washington for their five-week summer hiatus this week with an empty tank. "The Republicans and the oil companies have been really beating the drums on drilling," Mr. Obama said in the Post interview. "And so we don't want gridlock. We want to get something done."

POPSBionic bra: Victoria's circuit Looking for a better way to charge her iPod on the go, Adrienne So had an idea – could she invent a bionic bra to harness the energy of her bouncing breasts?

POPSListen to the Governator Environmental and energy policies are two things I tend to agree on with Schwarzenegger. Drilling for more oil will do nothing to lower current or even near-term energy prices. That's because finding new oil sources is not the issue. Demand far outpacing oil supply is the issue. We need to find new energy sources - not more oil. Any extra oil to be found would get soaked up by the market immediately, doing little if nothing to oil and energy prices. Finding alternate, large-scale sources of energy is the only thing that will keep prices in check, let alone save the environment.

POPSIs McCain Coming Around On ANWR? It will take years for the technologies to mature, the costs to come down and the national fleet to be changed over from its petroleum base. In the interim, we will need crude oil and plenty of it. Since the stability of our present sources of oil cannot be relied upon, our nation's security has been put at considerable risk. McCain realizes that the U.S. no longer has any choice but to develop its own dependable domestic energy supply and infrastructure. He's also politically astute enough to understand this: McCain's position is likely to help him solidify support among conservatives, which political analysts say he needs to do to guarantee a strong GOP turnout in November. His position also puts him in line with Republicans in the House and Senate, who are pushing legislation in Congress to lift the ban.

POPSBeyond Four Dimensional Space-Time According to some advanced physical theories more than our four dimensional space-time dimensions are needed for a complete description of the physical universe. The nearly-completed Large Hadron Collider (LHC) may be able to provide insight in the shape of these alternate dimensions.

POPSIran leader dismisses US currency The dollar has weakened considerably against the euro and other currencies in the past 12 months. Its decline has affected the revenues of Opec members because most of them price and sell their oil exports in the US currency. Mr Ahmadinejad said that all Opec countries had showed interest in converting their cash reserves into other currencies. "They get our oil and give us a worthless piece of paper," he told reporters. But Saudi officials were against including any such language in the declaration. One is reported to have warned that it could add to the pressure on the dollar. However, in the communique Opec did make a reference to the debate, by committing itself to studying "ways and means of enhancing financial co-operation". Iran's oil minister said that this would allow the formation of a committee to study the dollar's affect on oil prices and investigate the possibility of alternative trading currencies.

POPSStrategic Reserves That Go Undrilled This is so un-necessary. We have plenty of options. Solar, nuclear, wind, coal, off-shore drilling, more refineries; but there's a *cause* that will rise up and promote a reason to not proceed. When those in our northern states are freezing their buns, maybe the outcry will rise at those who are blocking every option...instead of supporting the ones we have and encouraging our potentials and possibilities. But heck! let's keep the political ball rolling about Bush/Cheney and the oil businesses and 'oh, woe is me' and continue to wallow in stagnation. That will spell progress and energy independence. s/off!

POPSKilowatts for cash , push for alternate energy The hip pocket as always is the most effective in changing people's habits and implementing change. With the recent privatisation of the energy supply, there is now the potential to profit from alternative sources such as wind or solar. That is if the price of a wind power system is better than the cost of running your own turbines, but the technology is improving all the time. A wind power system test site using "GridAgents software is currently being built at the CSIRO Energy Centre in Newcastle north of Sydney.

POPS"Oil that is, black gold, Texas tea." It makes no sense to keep going after the dwindling oil supplies of this world AT ANY COST! Why aren't serious non-political and non-self enriching explorations occurring for alternate energy. It's there for the taking but the OILMEN just want to keep the upper Oil Class of people happy until every last drop is taken from the Earth. Then out of necessity (mainly because of dwindling profit stockpiles) they will search for another way to get rich off the backs of the ignorant eager to be the first on the block to sport the latest fandango gizmo of a new energy. thinkingblue.blogspot.com
