Tim McGirk, friend to the Taliban and promotor of the 'secondary PTSD' defense for the murderer Hasa
Antara
by Antara  11-9-2009    1
Noah Pollak at Commentary has discovered that Mr. McGirk has a rather interesting history: This shouldn’t be surprising coming from Tim McGirk. He went to Afghanistan after 9/11, had Thanksgiving with the Taliban, and wrote a long piece for National Geographic about what a great time he had and how we’re all just human beings doing our thing on this big blue marble, so let’s not judge. Then he went to Iraq and singlehandedly created the Haditha Massacre hoax. Then he went to Jerusalem and spent a few years slandering Israel. Now he’s trafficking in pop psychology on behalf of a likely domestic jihadist. It’s been quite a career.

Need an Ask and Tell Policy Regarding Jihadists
dl211

Also obvious now is the fact that political correctness has run so amok that a jackass jihadist in our armed forces can spew his anti-American babble, blog about killing us, set red flags off all over the psychological place, and no one holds him down and scrapes his frontal lobe with a cement trowel. Once again, going PC gets people killed. To heck with being PC with people who want us dead; our playing the nice guy with this goon’s right to be a murderous idiot got our beloved soldiers butchered. Allow me to go back to these little Saladins and their normative murderous targets, por favor. Who are the regular marks for the mighty jihadists? Let’s see … unarmed soldiers, people eating calzones at a Pizza Hut, buses full of little school children, and people flying coach to grandmother’s house. Pathetic. Truly ignoble and pathetic. It seems as if going head-to-head with an American badass is just too, too much for these jihadist jackanapes.

The Victims of Fort Hood
merrie
by merrie  11-8-2009    1
According to an officer who served with him at Walter Reed Hospital, Hasan spoke approvingly of the shooting of Army recruiters this past summer by a Muslim convert in Little Rock, Arkansas. Authorities also investigated Hasan as long as six months ago for internet postings discussing suicide bombings and other attacks, though they have not yet determined definitively if he was the author of those posts. One of those posts was a blog entry that deified suicide bombers as being similar to soldiers who throw themselves on hand grenades in order to save the lives of their fellow soldiers. A cousin, Nader Hasan, builds a picture of the shooter as a bullied Muslim who was a good person who did not even like weapons, was conflicted about his military service, and was against the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. But postings that are thought to be Major Hasan’s don’t match the portrait of a soldier who was conflicted. They present us with a picture of someone who housed beliefs that

"We'd be better off confronting that Islamist enemy, than spraying perfume after each fatal strike." Long article but worth the read.

Fort Hood Suspect Said His Goodbyes Before Rampage
merrie
by merrie  11-6-2009    1
The rampage unfolded at a center where some 300 unarmed soldiers were lined up for vaccines and eye tests. Soldiers reported that the gunman shouted "Allahu Akbar!" " an Arabic phrase for "God is great!" " before opening fire Thursday, said Lt. Gen. Robert Cone, the base commander. He said officials had not confirmed Hasan made the comment. Hasan was due to be deployed to Afghanistan to help soldiers with combat stress, a task he'd done stateside with returning soldiers, the Army said. In any event, the major was saying goodbyes and dispensing belongings to neighbors. Jose Padilla, the owner of Hasan's apartment complex, said Hasan gave him notice two weeks ago that he was moving out this week. Earlier this week, Hasan asked Padilla his native language. When Padilla said it was Spanish, Hasan immediately went up to his apartment to get him a Spanish-language Quran. Padilla said Hasan also refused to reclaim his deposit and last month's rent.....

Ft. Hood suspect reportedly shouted `Allahu Akbar'

At least six months ago, Hasan came to the attention of law enforcement officials because of Internet postings about suicide bombings and other threats, including posts that equated suicide bombers to soldiers who throw themselves on a grenade to save the lives of their comrades. Investigators had not determined for certain whether Hasan was the author of the posting, and a formal investigation had not been opened before the shooting, said law enforcement officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss the case. The FBI, local police and other agencies searched Hasan's apartment Thursday night after evacuating the complex in Killeen, said city spokeswoman Hilary Shine. She referred questions about what was found to the FBI. The FBI in Dallas referred questions to a spokesman who was not immediately available early Friday morning.

Tonight, via reader Wilcoy, a new post. 7:30 PM ET -- "Russia, Iran will never forgive you." From a reader, "Just wanted to say that one of the photos you linked to says 'Russia, Iran will never forgive you'. Iranians care a lot about how other countries respond to this crisis." Russia, as readers know, has celebrated Ahmadinejad's election "victory" and said little about the subsequent violence. 7:27 PM ET -- Allah-o Akbar! Earlier today, the NYT reported: An Iranian blogger wrote on Twitter about one hour ago that in the Amirabad district of Tehran, "people are all on the roofs" to resume the nightly ritual of shouting "Allahu Akbar!" ("God is Great!") -- a form of protest turned against the Shah in the 1970s. Video from tonight... 7:12 PM ET -- "We are in this together." New York Times: A young woman, her clothing covered in blood, ran up Kagar Street, paused for a minute and said, "I am not scared because we are in this together."

"The point is, when they are being taken to the hospital they don't actually get there," her friend who accompanied her told CNN last week. "Just like the reporters are being told not to report what they really see. Human Rights Watch, citing interviews with people in Iran, said Friday the Basij is carrying out brutal nighttime raids, destroying property in private homes and beating civilians in an attempt to stop nightly rooftop chants of "Allahu Akbar" (God is great). The nighttime chanting is emblematic of the protests 30 years ago during the Iranian revolution, which toppled the monarchy of the shah. "While most of the world's attention is focused on the beatings in the streets of Iran during the day, the Basiji are carrying out brutal raids on people's apartments during the night," said Sarah Leah Whitson, Middle East director for Human Rights Watch. Residents from northern Tehran neighborhoods told Human Rights Watch that the Basij fired live rounds into the air . . .

At least they all got to say goodbye. (& allahu akbar) That’s something. The incident happened in Helmand province in southern Afghanistan where mainly British troops are struggling against a growing Taliban-led insurgency. In a separate incident in Helmand, nine policemen were killed when Taliban insurgents attacked a police post in Nari Sarraj district, the Interior Ministry said. Elsewhere, four Taliban insurgents were killed and seven policemen and two civilians wounded during a battle just outside Ghazni city, about 200 km (125 miles) southwest of the capital Kabul, a spokesman for the provincial governor said. On Friday, Washington is set to unveil a review of its strategy in Afghanistan, which is expected to emphasise the need to expand Afghan security forces and strengthen the country's heavily aid-dependent economy.   Black-and-white-clad members of the radical Hizbut Tahrir movement, or HTI, chanted "Allahu Akbar," meaning "God is greater," in front of the U.S. Embassy in the capital city of Jakarta and called on Muslims to reject the visit of the newly-appointed top U.S. diplomat. HTI spokesman Farid Wajdji told reporters the new administration of U.S. President Barack Obama continues to oppress Muslims worldwide, despite pledges of greater "mutual respect" between the United States and the Muslim world. "Indonesia and its Muslim leaders shouldn't be enticed by Hillary Clinton's arrival. Her flattery of Indonesia as a moderate Muslim nation is part of the superpower's divide-and-rule politics," Wajdji said. Clinton is due to visit Indonesia on Wednesday and Thursday on the second leg of her first overseas trip as U.S. secretary of state, breaking decades of tradition that took the new post holder to Europe or the Middle East on their inaugural visits. Murdered In The Name Of Islam — “Allahu Akbar”

atrocity, Jews had been attacked, tortured, and killed produced from the New York Times a serene befuddlement: “It is not known if the Jewish center was strategically chosen, or if it was an accidental hostage scene.” Hmm. Greater Bombay forms one of the world’s five biggest cities. It has a population of nearly 20 million. But only one Jewish center, located in a building that gives no external clue as to the bounty waiting therein. An “accidental hostage scene” that one of the “practitioners” just happened to stumble upon? “I must be the luckiest jihadist in town. What are the odds?” New Age guru Deepak Chopra laid all the blame on American foreign policy for “going after the wrong people” and inflaming moderates, and “that inflammation then gets organized and appears as this disaster in Bombay.” Really? The inflammation just “appears”? Like a bad pimple? The “fairer” we get to the, ah, inflamed militant practitioners, the unfairer we get to everyone else.

Man, that son-of-a-gun can give a speech. I can hardly wait for the inaugural. BTW, or perhaps not btw, it was a speech that got him here in the first place: at the Democratic convention in 2004. I remember watching him, riveted (I was a speechwriter myself, in the Coolidge administration), thinking, “Wow. Where did this guy come from?” I wrote in the New York Times (I know, I know: the height of vanity, quoting yourself): “Barack Obama is the Tiger Woods of American politics.” Ahem. You read it there first.

America's prison for terrorists suspects often held the wrong men

Cont... "This unprecedented compilation shows that most of the 66 were low-level Taliban grunts, innocent Afghan villagers or ordinary criminals. At least seven had been working for the U.S.-backed Afghan government and had no ties to militants, according to Afghan local officials. In effect, many of the detainees posed no danger to the United States or its allies. The investigation also found that despite the uncertainty about whom they were holding, U.S. soldiers beat and abused many prisoners. Prisoner mistreatment became a regular feature in cellblocks and interrogation rooms at Bagram and Kandahar air bases, the two main way stations in Afghanistan en route to Guantanamo. While he was held at Afghanistan's Bagram Air Base, Akhtiar said, "When I had a dispute with the interrogator, when I asked, 'What is my crime?' the soldiers who took me back to my cell would throw me down the stairs."

We were even knowledgeable enough to blurt out “Salaam” and “Allahu akbar.” The last utterance seemed to be the “Open Sesame” that got us out of the basement and back to Bedford Street, where we managed to take a picture of the mosque before hailing a cab and making a getaway.

Protesting that others aren't doing it right like yourself when it comes to religion is common fare. But you have to wonder by what great short circuit of logic did the protest leader (in the third paragraph below) surmised that he and his fellow believers' human rights were being violated by Ahmadiyah "disturbing" their practice of Islam. Was something lost in translation or has the protest leader decided to abandon all logic in his leap into faith?

Although the ordeal, which included questioning by the FBI, felt "like something out of a movie," Morgenstern said the "real heroes" were those who conducted the investigation and our "men and women overseas."

Non-Muslims in the UAE who previously were liable to be lashed under the federal law are now immune to this penalty all over the country. This follows a little-noticed amendment passed in late December revoking lashing as a punishment under UAE’s federal laws in non-Sharia cases. Lashing has been used as a punishment in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah, which fall under the federal courts’ jurisdiction. On the other hand, Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah are not under the UAE federal courts system, and do not use lashing as a penalty
